Chapter 139 The Man My Mom Keeps

Kara replied, "You calm her down first, I'll be there shortly."

Not long after, Kara arrived at Thomas's villa.

Calla told Susan to grab the wheelchair, and she wheeled Eloise down to the garden.

Susan looked worried. "Dr. Griffin, Mr. Thomas said Eloise just had surgery and shouldn't leave her room."

Calla frowned. "I'm the doctor here. Trust me, I know what I'm doing."

Susan backed off, not saying another word.

Calla slowly pushed Eloise into the garden.

She knew how much Eloise meant to Michael, and because of Eloise, she had a place by Michael's side.

So, Calla reminded herself to get along with Eloise.

She stopped, squatted in front of Eloise, and asked softly, "Eloise, does your head still hurt? Need any more meds?"

Eloise shook her head gently.

Michael had always told her not to take pills unless necessary.

She didn't know Calla at all. If Calla hadn't brought her out for some fresh air, she wouldn't have even let Calla get close to her, let alone take any pills from her.

Eloise stared at Calla, studying her face.

Out of the blue, she asked, "I've never seen you before. Did you do my surgery?"

Calla's heart skipped a beat.

Was Eloise awake before the surgery?

Did she remember who did it?

Calla felt a wave of panic.

If Eloise remembered, would she tell Michael?

If Michael found out Calla didn't do the surgery, what would happen?

Would he punish her?

She'd heard he had some pretty harsh ways of dealing with his enemies. Could she handle it?

Seeing Kara lost in thought, Eloise reminded her that she was still waiting for an answer. "Dr. Griffin, is that so?"

Calla snapped back to reality and forced a smile. "It's nothing. Mr. Thomas trusted me to take care of you. Of course, I did your surgery."

She smiled, trying to look confident.

Eloise frowned.

Calla asked, "Eloise, did you remember something? If you feel off or remember anything, you need to tell me right away."

Eloise shook her head, looking blank. "I'm tired."

Calla sighed in relief. She stood up and started pushing the wheelchair. "Alright, Eloise, let's get you back to your room."

That evening, Nolan and Pearl came home to find Dean there, and they hugged him excitedly.

They clung to Dean, begging him to play with them.

Nolan wasn't into playing with other kids or meeting new people.

But Dean was different. He shared Nolan's interests and even taught him some hacking tricks.

So, after coming back from abroad, Nolan really missed Dean.

Now that Dean was here, Nolan wasn't going to miss out on hanging with him.

Elizabeth also stayed up late playing with them; everyone was very excited.

Early the next morning, while Elizabeth was still asleep, her phone rang.

Elizabeth reached out from under the covers, answered the phone without even looking, and kept her eyes shut.

Sarah's voice came through the phone, all chipper. "Elizabeth, you up? Lately, every time I call, you're busy. And you never text back. Is it the new company keeping you swamped? I figured you must be super busy. No worries, I can come to you. Had breakfast yet? Nancy must've made something, right? Wait for me, I wanna join you!"

Elizabeth was still half-asleep.

She sat up, rubbed her eyes, and yawned, glancing at her phone.

Yep, it was Sarah, and it was 8:15 AM.

Wasn't Sarah the one who loved to sleep in? Why was she up so early wanting breakfast?

"Sarah, where are you? I'm not even up yet," Elizabeth mumbled.

Sarah's voice was full of energy. "Elizabeth, can you believe it? I got up early! I'm right at the gate of Whispering Pines Estates. Which house is yours? I'll be there soon."

Upon hearing this, Elizabeth snapped awake.

She jumped out of bed, didn't bother with slippers, and ran outside.

Luckily, the kids were already on their way to school. She sighed in relief.

No way could she let Sarah find out about the kids.

Sarah kept calling, "Elizabeth! Why are you running? You haven't told me where you live yet. Are you coming out to greet me?"

Elizabeth quickly tidied up the toys in the living room while giving Sarah her address.

Soon, the doorbell rang as Elizabeth was changing clothes in the bedroom.

Hearing the doorbel, Dean had already opened the gate for Sarah remotely.

Elizabeth didn't think much of it and kept changing in the bedroom.

When she came out, she saw Sarah and Dean, in his loungewear, standing in the living room, staring at each other.

Elizabeth slapped her forehead. Lack of sleep had made her forget about Dean.

Sarah was definitely going to get the wrong idea.

Elizabeth flopped on the couch, scratching her head. "Dean, go back to your room. Sarah, have a seat."

Dean turned around, sounding a bit hurt. "Elizabeth, is this your best friend Sarah you often mentioned? Aren't you gonna introduce us?"

Elizabeth jumped up, pushed Dean into the room, and shut the door. "Put on some proper clothes before coming out."

Sarah sat at the dining table, looking curious.

Her eyes were full of questions. "Elizabeth, I underestimated you. It's only been a few days, and you already have a handsome guy at home. Not bad. I was worried you wouldn't believe in love anymore."

She pretended to wipe drool from her mouth. "Tell me, where'd you find such a hottie? He's so handsome he's making me drool."

Elizabeth facepalmed. "He's not my guy. He's someone my mom keeps around."

Sarah looked shocked. "What?"

Seeing her reaction, Elizabeth knew she misunderstood again.

Elizabeth quickly explained. "I mean, Dean lives with us because he loves my mom's cooking. He got here late last night and didn't have time to find a hotel, so he stayed over. It's not what you think."

Sarah gave her a knowing look and then, slowly, like a whisper, said, "Oh."

She smiled and leaned closer. "What do I think? And what is your relationship?"
