Chapter 112 Repaying Kindness with Ingratitude
Wade, Lloyd, and Helen all got nervous because of Carl's reaction.
Lloyd stood up and asked, "How's my grandson?"
Aurora also stared at Carl.
'Is Carl really sensing something, or is he in on it with Wade?'
Carl looked around seriously and said, "It's actually not very good. Mr. Lloyd Lewis, we should talk in private."
"Alright," Lloyd said, getting serious. "Let's go to my study."
"Grandpa, I'll come with you," Wade said, supporting Lloyd as they headed to the study.
That left Aurora, Lucas, and Helen in the room.
Helen closed the door carefully and whispered, "John, do you think they'll find out?"
Lucas, worried, said, "I think the doctor Wade found is pretty good. John, what if Carl says something he shouldn't?"
John rolled up his sleeves and sneered, "When Wade gets back, he might as well tell the rest of the Lewis Family to prepare a coffin for me."
Everyone was even more confused.
Aurora frowned. "John, what's going on?"
John explained, "The medicine Gary gave me makes it look like I'm on the brink of death."
Lucas asked, "John, are you giving Wade a chance to take action?"
John's eyes were deep. "Uncle and Wade are too cautious. If I don't push things, I can't move forward with my plans."
Sure enough, when the three came out of the study, Wade looked regretful. "John, take care of yourself. I'll find another top doctor for you."
Lloyd kept sighing, looking much haggard, with tears in his eyes.
Lucas comforted him, "Grandpa, don't worry. Todd said he'd bring a renowned doctor tomorrow. John will be fine."
Lloyd stood by John's bedside and urged, "John, rest well and take care of yourself."
After Carl and Wade left, Lucas stayed at the mansion, and Helen arranged a room for Aurora next to John's.
Helen hoped for a grandchild soon, but since Aurora wasn't married, she had to consider her reputation.
Aurora came out of John's room, ready to go downstairs, and ran into Lucas at the staircase.
"Lucas," Aurora greeted him.
"Ms. White." Lucas nodded. "Are you okay staying here?"
"It's alright." Aurora smiled faintly, feeling a bit awkward around Lucas.
After all, Lucas was her former boss.
Lucas said, "Glad to hear that."
They fell silent, and then Aurora's phone rang. It was a video call from Loren.
Aurora pointed to her phone. "I'll take this call."
The video call came at the perfect time to ease the awkwardness.
"Alright."
Lucas was usually talkative, but around Aurora, he never knew what to say.
Aurora took her phone downstairs to video call Loren. She also told Ashley and Kevin that she had temporarily moved to the Lewis Family's mansion to take care of John.
The next day, as John predicted, early the next morning, all major media outlets were reporting on John's critical condition.
Even the entire Lewis Group was tense.
Dean called Aurora to check, "Aurora, is John really dying?"
Aurora replied indifferently, "You saw the news."
Dean sighed. "I thought your good days were coming, but it seems you haven't even stepped into the Lewis Family, and John is already dying."
Aurora sneered, "While I haven't taken over White Group yet, you can still back out. Once I take over, it won't be so easy to get it back."
"How could Dad back out? Is Dad that kind of person? The company is yours once it's handed over to you," Dean said. "Besides, there's the Robinson family. Aurora, the White Family is counting on you."
Aurora scoffed and hung up.
Instead of taking over the company directly, she handed the share transfer contract to the vice president, promoting him to acting chairman. Better to have someone else manage the mess.
She made this decision after consulting Kevin and getting his approval.
After finishing her business, Aurora left the café and was stopped by someone.
"Ms. White, Mr. Harris wants to see you."
Aurora glanced at the car across the street. The window rolled down, revealing Chris inside.
In broad daylight, she didn't think they would dare to kidnap her again.
Aurora hesitated but walked over, forcing a smile. "Mr. Harris, what a coincidence."
"I've been waiting here for half an hour," Chris said, signaling her to get in the car. "We have unfinished business. Let's talk."
"No need."
Aurora looked at the bodyguards Chris had brought, realizing she had no choice.
Chris said, "Ms. White, afraid I'll harm you? Don't worry; I'm not the type to repay kindness with enmity. You diverted Nightfall's people to protect me. I owe you."
Aurora pressed her lips together, too embarrassed to admit it was a misunderstanding. Nightfall wasn't after Chris; they were after her. She wasn't as noble as Chris thought.
However, she had saved Chris's other leg, so he owed her.
Aurora got in the car. "Where to?"
"To repay your kindness, I've got a big gift for you."
"A big gift?" Aurora rolled her eyes. She didn't need any big gifts, just no more surprises.
And as it turned out, she really shouldn't have expected anything from Chris.
An hour later, the car drove into a villa area, Chris's place.
Chris, in a wheelchair, was pushed in by bodyguards, with Aurora following. Inside, she was stunned to see Emily and Daniel sitting in the living room, watched by bodyguards.
"Aurora, what's going on?" Daniel was surprised. He looked at Chris and realized who had brought them.
A few hours earlier, Emily and Daniel were brought here and watched by bodyguards. They didn't know who had brought them.
"Sis, bro, why did you bring us here?" Emily was confused and scared. She was afraid of Chris.
Emily was Percy's illegitimate daughter, and she and Chris were half-siblings, so she should call him brother.
Chris's face darkened. "I'm not your brother. My mom only gave me one sister, Karen. Who do you think you are?"
Aurora's face was cold. "Don't call me sis. My mom only gave birth to me, no sisters."
Both spoke in unison, leaving Emily red-faced with embarrassment.
Emily felt awkward, and Daniel felt humiliated, looking at Emily with disdain.
Aurora asked Chris indifferently, "Why did you bring these two here? Don't tell me this is the big gift you've mentioned."
Chris said seriously, "I found out you and Daniel used to be a couple. Emily schemed to swap brides on your wedding day and stole your man. I'm going to make them divorce and give your man back to you. Isn't that a big gift?"
He looked like he expected a huge thank you.
Aurora was baffled. "Mr. Harris, thanks for the big gift, but I don't need it."
This wasn't repaying a favor; it was repaying kindness with enmity.
