Chapter 40 Uninvited Guest

Randy came to Meadowbrook Villa for a reason.

Todd temporarily took Summer outside.

John and Randy went to the study. "Randy, is there anyone among the new recruits that you're satisfied with?"

Randy shook his head. "The young people nowadays are getting worse and worse. Their physical fitness is too poor. I can only say I'll do my best."

"That's not like you, Randy." John lit a cigarette and asked, "How long has that kid been training?"

"Three months." Randy held up three fingers. As he mentioned Summer, his face lit up with pride. "This kid's talent is even higher than yours back in the day. He heard that you're very skilled, and he insisted on coming out to see you."

Summer only spent three months on hitting the eighth ring.

And he was only four or five years old.

John was a bit shocked. "What's this kid best at?"

Randy shook his head.

John frowned. No specialties?

Before John could speak, Randy smiled and said, "Summer shows extremely high talent in every aspect. He's already caught up with two of the records you set on Plum Blossom Island and is close to breaking them."

Plum Blossom Island was the headquarters of the Nightfall Syndicate and also a training base.

Such a talented child wasone in a million. No wonder Randy was so happy.

"Have you checked the kid's background?" John was a bit uneasy. "Who are his parents?"

Randy had a grandson who died in an accident a year ago, which had always been a sore spot for him.

Summer was about the same age as Randy's grandson. John worried that Randy might have taken Summer because of his affection for his late grandson.

Hearing this, Randy was unhappy and seeminglygrumpy when he snorted twice. "What? Are you worried I kidnapped him? Summer's background has been checked. He's just an orphan, no parents. Anyway, I'm keeping this kid. Do what you want."

Seeing Randy's childish behavior, John couldn't help but laugh. Randy was like a half-teacher to him, and John had always respected him.

In the hall, Summer sat upright like a little adult, his legs swinging boredly, his round face looking like a delicate doll.

Todd felt an itch in his hands, wanting to pinch him.

"Summer, right? Here, have a banana." Todd wanted to call him a little brat but changed his words at the last moment. This kid was too domineering.

Summer crossed his arms and sized up Todd, speaking in a mature tone, "Are you the eternal second place?"

Todd's face darkened instantly.

Sam and Tyler couldn't help but laugh.

The nickname "eternal second place" hadn't been used in a long time.

The nickname came from Todd's ranking on Plum Blossom Island, always below John's, hence the name "eternal second place."

Todd glared at Sam and Tyler, then turned to Summer with a forced smile. "Do you admire me a lot? Don't be too obsessed with me; I'm just a..."

Summer pouted. "Your attitude is pretty good. You've never been first, yet you're so narcissistic."

Todd felt a bit hurt.

"Hey, kid, you can't talk to an adult like that. What do you know? I also want to surpass my boss, but my skills don't allow it." Todd clutched his chest, looking heartbroken. "If you want to surpass my boss, wait another ten years."

Summer couldn't be bothered to respond.

Todd, still smiling, leaned in and asked, "You weren't really kidnapped by Randy, were you? Where are your parents? Where's your home? How about I take you to find your parents?"

Todd thought that most kids would be excited to hear about finding their parents.

But he forgot that a kid who could hit the eighth ring and dared to challenge John couldn't be an ordinary child.

"Hmph! I'm not a three-year-old. I'm already four and a half." Summer turned his head, jumped off the chair, put his hands behind his back, and walked out of the hall.

Summer thought, 'Is he treating me like a three-year-old?'

Todd almost burst out laughing.

He asked Sam and Tyler, "Are kids these days all this sassy?"

John and Randy came downstairs and didn't see Summer. Randy got anxious and asked Todd, "Where's Summer?"

"He went out. That little brat is small but arrogant. He's cute but not at all pleasant to talk to," Todd commented.

Randy asked, "Did you say something to him?"

Todd was confused. "No, I just said I'd take him to find his parents."

"Damn." Randy slapped his fist. "You really know how to hit a sore spot."

"What do you mean?" Todd looked puzzled.

Meadowbrook Villa was large. Summer wandered around and found a rock by the artificial lake to sit on.

Summer was unhappy. He often heard the kids on the island asking about their parents.

But he had never seen his parents since he was born.

Summer grew up in an orphanage, where the director often bullied him. He ran away and met Randy, who took him back to Plum Blossom Island.

He had never seen his parents, but he longed for them deeply, though he never showed it.

When John found Summer, the orange streetlight cast a small shadow of him sitting on the rock, hugging his knees.

John's heart suddenly tightened.

Even though Summer used an adult's tone to provoke, he was still just a child.

"Feeling down?" John walked over and sat next to Summer.

Summer's little face was puffed up with anger, implying that he was clearly unhappy, so he turned away.

John was amused by Summer's expression. He put a big hand on Summer's small shoulder. "Crying?"

"I'm not." Summer sniffed. "I won't cry. Only three-year-olds cry. I'm already four and a half."

John couldn't help but laugh. Usually indifferent, he found himself being unusually patient with a child for the first time, realizing that kids really were the cutest beings.

"Alright, Summer is a little man now and won't cry."

Summer looked up and suddenly asked, "Do you have parents?"

John remembered Randy's words and carefully answered, "Yes, everyone has parents. For whatever reason, your parents aren't with you now, but one day, they will come to get you."

"Really?" Summer's eyes lit up, still a child at heart.

John nodded. "Yes."

Seeing Summer's excited expression, John secretly decided to help Summer find his biological parents.

Todd and Randy came over. Seeing John and Summer sitting together and chatting harmoniously, they didn't interrupt.

Todd stared at the big and small figures in front of him, finding the scene very heartwarming.

Randy had to stay at Meadowbrook Villa for a few days to procure some items, so Summer was temporarily arranged to stay there.

With a child around, John felt that Meadowbrook Villa had become a bit livelier.

Aurora returned home after having dinner with Donna and quietly curled up on the sofa, looking out the window.

Donna's words echoed in her ears.

Aurora held her phone andopened John's Telegram chat, but she didn't know what to say. She typed and deleted several messages.

That night, Aurora had insomnia.

She tossed and turned until dawn.

It was Saturday, so she didn't have to go to work.

Aurora wanted to sleep in, but an unexpected guest arrived.

Aurora lazily went to open the door, and standing there was none other than Emily.

"Aurora, you're still not up? It's almost noon."

Emily smiled sweetly, wearing a fresh dress and looking innocent . If it were a man, he would have been charmed by Emily.

Aurora leaned lazily against the door frame. "Feeling masochistic again?"

Emily and Dean took turns coming over, and they wouldn't leave, no matter how much Aurora scolded them. It was very annoying.

"Aurora, it's Saturday. Let's go shopping together." Emily's face showed no resentment or anger, just sisterly affection. "Aurora, I sincerely want to make up with you. Please give me a chance."

Aurora didn't know what Emily was up to and sneered. "Make up? Are you an idiot?"

Aurora thought, 'Emily was probably plotting something malicious against me. Make up? I didn't believe a word of it.'

"Aurora," Emily continued to smile. "I was really wrong. I only acted out because I loved Daniel too much. Please don't be mad at me, okay? By the way, can you take me to the banquet tomorrow night?"

Emily reached out to link arms with Aurora, but Aurora subtly avoided her.

Aurora thought, 'Emily definitely wouldn't leave so easily.'

'So, she was aiming for the banquet.'

'Kevin hadn't sent an invitation to the White family, and the Taylor family probably didn't plan to take Emily.'

Aurora guessed right. The Taylor family, indeed, wouldn't take Emily. Emily had previously offended Mrs. Ford, who had been badmouthing her to Daniel's mother. Emily's life in the Taylor family was now very difficult.

Daniel's mother found Emily very displeasing and constantly made things hard for her, even suggesting that Daniel divorced her.

Emily was desperate and hated Aurora even more.

If she couldn't attend the banquet, the ladies in the social circle would know her status was in jeopardy and would mock her, taking the opportunity to step on her.

That's why Emily came to Aurora. She had to attend the banquet.

"If you know you were wrong, shouldn't you show some sincerity?" Aurora, feeling bored, decided to indulge in Emily's masochism.

Emily's face lit up when she heard Aurora relent. "Really? You're willing to forgive me?"

"Depends on your performance." Aurora said, "I haven't eaten yet. There's fish in the kitchen. I suddenly want Grilled Salmon. It's up to you."

Emily, who had never done any housework, didn't know how to cook.

Emily gritted her teeth and smiled. "No problem!"

As long as she could go to the banquet and see Aurora humiliated, she could endure anything.

"The kitchen is over there." Aurora pointed with a hint of a cold smile on her face.

Aurora admired Emily's persistence.

Emily thought she could look up a recipe online and follow it. It shouldn't be too hard. But when she entered the kitchen and saw the live fish in the sink, she felt like breaking down.

"The fish is alive?"

Aurora's tone was light. "Yes, why? Can't do it? Then leave and don't disturb my sleep."

Aurora was sure Emily wouldn't leave.

She knew Emily too well. To achieve her goals, Emily would do anything.

Emily wasn't someone who gave up easily.

Emily quickly said, "I can do it. It'll be ready soon."

"Then I'll be waiting for your Grilled Salmon." Aurora smirked and walked out of the kitchen.

Soon, Aurora heard Emily's screams coming from the kitchen.

The fish struggled in the water, splashing Emily with water. Her hair and face were covered in a fishy smell.

Her hair had just been done, and her clothes were the latest fashion, her favorite.

The fish was slippery and uncooperative, and Emily couldn't hold it, making a mess of herself.

The fish's gaping mouth, struggling, scared her into screaming.

Emily was furious, completely losing her ability to think. She glanced at Aurora, who was resting on the sofa, grabbed a kitchen knife, and, in a fit of rage, walked towards Aurora, raising the knife to stab her.

She had only one thought in her mind: kill Aurora.

She was completely deranged.
