Chapter 25 Regret
"Whatever you want." Dean had long felt that those things brought bad luck, so he agreed readily. "Your mother's things are all locked in the storage room. Go get them yourself, and leave quickly. If the Robinson family comes, it'll be a mess."
Seeing Dean's cowardly demeanor, eager to distance himself from her, Aurora felt very disappointed.
"Don't worry. I won't drag the White family into this. I'll handle the trouble I caused myself. I've gotten used to it over the years." Aurora forced a smile. "The father in my heart died the moment he betrayed my mother by bringing Nicole into our home."
"Aurora, what are you saying? You ungrateful girl, how dare you curse me?" Dean was furious.
"Does this make you angry, Mr. White ? Didn't I learn this from you?" Aurora sneered. "But I do admire you, Mr. White. Nicole has been cheating on you, and you still haven't kicked her out. My mother never betrayed you, yet you insisted she did. Now you're comfortably enjoying the humiliation of being betrayed."
Dean slammed the table in anger. "Aurora, you're just like your mother, sinister and cold-blooded. Wasn't last night's incident your setup? I'm not old or blind; I can see through such tricks."
"Yes, I underestimated you, Mr. White. The older, the wiser." Aurora stared at Dean. "The company needs funds to keep running. I didn't exactly lie to you last night; I brought you an investment opportunity, didn't I? The reason you keep Nicole around is to get some money from Percy, isn't it?"
Aurora had just seen through Dean's intentions.
She truly admired Dean for enduring the humiliation of being cheated on and planning to use Nicole to profit from Percy.
Dean's face turned red with anger and embarrassment as his thoughts were exposed. "Stop talking nonsense and get out of here with your things."
Aurora didn't want to stay a second longer and turned to go to the storage room.
The storage room door wasn't locked. Inside were old, unused items, rarely cleaned by the servants, covered in dust.
Aurora found her mother's keepsake, a mahogany box, covered in a layer of dust.
She didn't know what was inside; she had never seen it.
Before her mother passed away, she specifically told Aurora that this box was left for Aurora.
After Nicole came into the house, she had tried several times to get the box, but Dean intervened, and Nicole stopped. After that, the box was hidden somewhere unknown.
Aurora didn't expect it to be thrown into the storage room by Dean.
Wiping the dust off the box, Aurora carried it downstairs. Just as she reached the hall, a servant rushed in from outside and said, "Mr. and Mrs. White, the Robinson family is here."
No one expected the Robinson family to arrive so early.
Aurora stood still with the mahogany box just a few steps away from the bottom of the stairs. Dean, following closely behind, panicked and said, "Get out through the back door quickly. Don't drag us into this trouble."
Dean yanked Aurora hard, showing his eagerness to get rid of her.
Aurora almost lost her balance and fell down the stairs, but she quickly grabbed the railing. Her waist hit a carved wooden sculpture hard, causing her to gasp in pain, tears almost coming out.
Aurora felt as if she had fallen into an ice cellar, her heart cold.
She once again clearly recognized her father's indifference.
"Aurora." Jack hurried to support Aurora and shouted at Dean, "How dare you touch Aurora."
Jack rolled up his sleeves, ready to fight.
"Jack." Aurora endured the pain in her waist and stopped Jack, looking at Dean with icy eyes. "Mr. White, don't worry. I won't drag you into this."
She shared Dean's blood, and no matter how angry or heartbroken she was, she couldn't lay a hand on him.
Dean felt a bit guilty when he met Aurora's cold gaze, but that guilt vanished when he saw Kevin walk in, replaced by resentment.
It was too late to leave now.
"Mr. Kevin Robinson, what an honor to have you here." Dean greeted with a smile.
Nicole and Emily exchanged a look, their eyes filled with smugness and anticipation of the show.
"Mr. White," Kevin stated his purpose directly, "I'm here today regarding the incident between your eldest daughter Aurora and my son last night."
Dean's face turned pale because he thought Kevin was here to settle scores. Before Kevin could say anything, Dean quickly said, "Mr. Kevin Robinson, you must be mistaken. I only has one daughter, Emily. I have no daughter named Aurora. I heard a bit about last night's incident. Mr. Kevin Robinson, whatever you want to do with Aurora has nothing to do with the White family. I have absolutely no complaints."
Kevin wasn't aware of the online news about Dean severing ties with Aurora, but he was smart enough to understand Dean's meaning.
Nicole chimed in, "Yes. Mr. Kevin Robinson, Aurora was the one who hit your son. It has nothing to do with the White family. Aurora is over there. If you want to settle scores, go find her."
Nicole pointed at Aurora.
Kevin looked at Aurora, a flash of surprise in his eyes.
Kevin had met many people and had heard from his son that Aurora was a great beauty, but seeing her in person, he was still amazed.
What amazed Kevin was not just Aurora's appearance but also her elegant and refined demeanor, like a quiet orchid blooming in a deep valley, graceful and poised, with the air of a hostess.
Kevin was even more convinced that John, the head of the Lewis family, had more than just a superficial interest in Aurora.
Aurora would undoubtedly be the future hostess of the Lewis family.
Emily saw Kevin staring at Aurora and thought Aurora was doomed this time, feeling smug.
Aurora walked up calmly and said in a steady voice, "Mr. Kevin Robinson, I am Aurora. I apologize for what happened last night. I am deeply sorry for the injuries Mr. Leo Robinson suffered."
She knew she couldn't escape today and was mentally prepared.
Aurora did this to avoid implicating John. Given Leo's vengeful nature, if the Robinson family went after John, John would have a hard time in Silvercrest City.
While everyone was waiting for Kevin to lash out at Aurora, Kevin spoke respectfully, "Miss White, it was my fault for not teaching my son properly. I came to apologize to you. You did the right thing last night. I should thank you for teaching my unfilial son a lesson."
Kevin's words shocked everyone.
Nicole's eyes widened. "Mr. Kevin Robinson, did you misspeak? Weren't you here to settle scores? Aurora had someone beat Mr. Leo Robinson so badly that he was hospitalized. Why are you apologizing to her?"
Dean was also incredulous. "Mr. Kevin Robinson, what do you mean? Weren't you here to confront Aurora?"
Kevin smiled. "Why would I blame Miss White? I know my son's character well. Last night, Leo harassed Miss White. It's our Robinson family that should apologize. Miss White, this is a gift I prepared to express my apologies. Please be magnanimous and don't hold a grudge against my unfilial son."
