Chapter 360 Showing Weakness
Killing a small fry was too easy for these mercenaries.
Only a fool would have turned down money.
Beck took the job.
As soon as the mercenaries left, Sandra immediately made a phone call, "Did you send Lion's men to go after John?"
A man's voice came from the other end: "You women are always too indecisive, Sandra. You're still not ruthless enough."
"When did it become your place to teach me how to do things?" Sandra warned viciously, "If you dare to make another move against him, don't blame me for turning against you. If anyone's going to deal with him, it will be me."
"Instead of wasting time getting angry at me, you should think about how to avoid the cops. John isn't stupid; he'll soon figure out it was you."
"It was Aurora who killed Helen. So what if he figures it out? Aurora was violated and then killed Helen. Now she's on the run, missing. John must hate Aurora's guts by now." Sandra felt pleased at the thought, but she also found it strange—where had Aurora gone?
However, the next sentence from the other side wiped the smile off Sandra's face.
"If you could find someone to impersonate Aurora, didn't you think Aurora could do the same?"
"What do you mean?"
"The person who went into the bar wasn't Aurora; it was Lori," the other person replied. "The cops aren't stupid either. They'll soon figure it out. Three Auroras appearing in one night—do you really think people are that dumb?"
"What?" Sandra was shocked. She really didn't know about this. She suddenly realized that the Aurora she saw on the surveillance footage did seem a bit off. She hadn't expected it to be Lori.
Sandra asked, "Where is Aurora now? You must know."
"You shouldn't be worrying about where Aurora is right now. You should be worrying about dealing with John. It's either him or us."
With that, the other person hung up.
Sandra was so angry she almost threw her phone. At that moment, Jax, who had been sleeping nearby, suddenly woke up hungry and started crying.
After receiving the child, Sandra had originally planned to leave Silvercrest City, but she decided to stay to see Aurora's downfall, so she stayed.
Hearing the baby's cries, Sandra suppressed her anger, walked over to pick up the child. Strangely enough, Jax stopped crying as soon as he was in Sandra's arms.
Sandra smiled, "You're really smart, knowing how to adapt to the situation at such a young age. Are you hungry? Don't worry, I'll have someone make you some formula right away."
Saying this, Sandra shouted to the people around her, "What are you standing around for? Go make some formula. Can't you see the baby is hungry?"
"Yes, Ms. Johnson."
Sandra's face was still wrapped in bandages, which hadn't been removed yet as it wasn't time.
Sandra sat on a makeshift sofa with Jax in her arms, reaching out to tease him, "You're really good-looking. You have your daddy's nose and eyes. Jax, how about staying with me? I'll treat you well."
Jax smiled and drooled, his adorable expression melting hearts.
Sandra couldn't help but laugh, "Jax, you like me too, don't you? Such a good boy."
Jax wiggled his tongue and lips, making cute sounds. At three months old, he was like a little chatterbox, already trying to communicate.
"What do you want to say, Jax?" Sandra was delighted. There's nothing more irresistible in this world than a baby's pure innocence.
Jax waved his hands and kicked his feet happily, making Sandra laugh heartily, putting her in a very good mood.
When the formula was ready, Sandra personally fed Jax, who drank it joyfully, finishing the bottle in just over ten minutes.
Jax was so cooperative that Sandra couldn't bear to harm him. Not only that, she treated Jax exceptionally well. When he spit up and soiled his clothes, she immediately ordered someone to buy new clothes and some toys for him.
When Jax pooped or peed, Sandra personally changed his diaper. If anyone else tried to touch Jax, he would cry loudly, but he would be happy as soon as Sandra held him.
Jax only recognized Sandra, giving her a sense of being needed, and she was happy to hold him.
In the end, Sandra's arms were sore, and she couldn't even sit down. The moment she tried to rest on the sofa, Jax would cry and demand to be held and talked to.
What a demanding baby.
Sandra didn't want to hold him anymore, but seeing Jax smile so sweetly at her, she softened and continued to hold him.
Meanwhile, John had discovered Paul's location and immediately headed there with his men.
His mission was clear: find Jax, locate Aurora, and catch Helen's killer.
John didn't dare to rest for a moment.
Allan was also leading a group to find Aurora. Regardless of whether she was the killer, they needed to find her.
Lori was also anxious, but she was somewhat comforted by the fact that Ava was out.
Allan had bailed Ava out. Richard had been caught, and Allan kept his word, pleading with his superiors.
Given Ava's past contributions, the fact that she was coerced by Richard, and her undeniable abilities, her superiors were reluctant to lose her and Lori.
Even if the legal process proceeded, Ava would at most be sentenced to community service. With significant contributions and good behavior during this period, her punishment could be reduced, allowing her to gain her freedom sooner.
Lori personally went to pick up Ava.
After not seeing each other for so long, Lori hugged Ava as soon as she saw her, "Ava, I missed you so much. Look at you, you've put on some weight."
Ava was speechless.
"The food in there is good, and there's nothing to do but eat and sleep. Of course, I'd gain weight."
"This time, Mr. Jennings kept his word," Lori was happy but also had some bad news, "Ava, we've got work to do. Aurora is missing. Someone impersonated Aurora, killed Helen, and then jumped into the river to escape. Now Aurora is missing, and she can't explain herself."
Ava was very surprised. After being in prison for so long, she felt like the world had changed when she got out.
"Let's get in the car first," Ava didn't waste words.
Aurora was in trouble, and Lori was undoubtedly very worried.
Lori picked up Ava and them left. On the way, Lori casually asked, "Ava, where were you held all this time? Mr. Jennings said he didn't even know where you were transferred to."
A strange light flashed in Ava's eyes as she replied, "I don't know either. They had me blindfolded the whole time."
Lori didn't suspect anything, "Let's go meet up with John first."
Time ticked by.
Aurora stayed put in Wade's rented apartment, not going anywhere.
In the evening, she heard the sound of a key turning in the lock, and her nerves immediately tensed. She hugged her knees, sitting at the head of the bed, quickly preparing her emotions as Wade entered.
The moment Wade opened the door, he was greeted by a breathtaking scene.
Aurora looked like a frightened doe, her eyes red and filled with fear as she looked at him. The setting sun's rays shone through the window, casting a soft glow on her, making the scene incredibly beautiful.
Wade had always known Aurora was beautiful. From the moment she joined the company and he first laid eyes on her, he was captivated.
The old Aurora was like a thorny rose, always mocking him and defending John, constantly refusing to cooperate with Wade.
But there was something about a challenge that made a man want to rise to it even more.
"Aurora, you must be hungry. Have something to eat." Wade walked in.
Aurora asked, "What's going on outside now?"
