Chapter 179 John rushed to Wolfpack overnight

The river was way too calm, and all Aurora got in return was the cold wind.

Aurora felt a chill run through her body, and she couldn't stop shaking.

She didn't even dare to look at the bloodstains on the ground.

"Did anyone find him?" Hank asked.

No one who went into the river found anything.

Someone said, "Bobcat, the kid's been in the river for so long, there's no way he's still alive."

"That's nonsense," Aurora snapped back, her voice stern. "He will be fine. Keep searching."

Aurora had a token of authority from their employer, so no one dared to disobey.

Dozens of people searched the river, and as time passed, Wayne started to panic. If Loren died, he was definitely going to jail.

Wayne glanced at Aurora. Almost everyone's attention was on the river, so he had a wicked thought and quietly moved back, trying to slip away.

Wayne had already slipped out of the crowd when Bobby's mother noticed and shouted, "Wayne is trying to run!"

She chased after him and grabbed Wayne's clothes, not letting him go. In his panic, Wayne stabbed her.

Lori, standing by the river, saw Wayne trying to escape. She picked up a stone and threw it at Wayne's leg. The stone hit Wayne's leg, causing him to immediately kneel in pain.

Taking advantage of Wayne's injury, others quickly apprehended him.

At that moment, there was a sudden commotion on the river, like something big was swimming in the water.

Everyone hurried to the shore in fear as someone picked up a stone to throw, but Aurora shouted, "Don't throw it."

Aurora stared at the commotion on the water, and everyone else held their breath.

A huge wave rose on the river, heading straight for Aurora. Suddenly, a furry head popped up, and a mink emerged from the water. It shook its head and squeaked at Aurora as if it were talking. It was particularly intelligent.

Someone said, "I didn't expect there to be a mink in the river."

Aurora paused for a moment, then stared at the mink. The mink nodded at Aurora as if hinting at something, then turned and dove back into the water, swimming away.

"Lori, quick, follow it." Aurora was a good swimmer, but she was pregnant and unfamiliar with this part of the river, so she had to let Lori follow the mink.

"Okay." Lori followed the mink into the deeper part of the reeds.

Everyone else waited on the shore, staring in the direction Lori and the mink had gone.

About half an hour later, Lori returned, carrying Loren on her back.

"Loren." Aurora was almost in tears of joy.

"Mommy." Loren's voice was weak. He responded as he lay on Lori's back.

As soon as Lori reached the shore, Aurora quickly took off her clothes and gave them to Loren. "Are you hurt anywhere?"

After a quick check, Aurora only found blood on Loren, with no wounds.

"Mommy, don't worry, I'm fine. This blood is someone else's." Loren had jumped into the river to escape Wayne's pursuit and had swum for a long time, leaving him very weak. Even so, he managed to smile at Aurora to comfort her.

Hank squeezed through the crowd. "Loren, tell me, what happened? Who killed Bobby?"

Seeing Wayne being restrained, Loren pointed at him and said, "It was him, Bobcat. I saw him push someone into the river with my own eyes, and I saw him come out of that room. Oh, and there's another man in there who was also injured."

Hearing this, Hank's expression turned serious. "Go check the archives room immediately."

"I'll take Loren back first." Aurora glanced at Wayne again. "Trying to harm my son, you won't get away with it. Send him to the police."

That was Aurora's stance.

Wayne's face immediately turned pale. "Ms. White, I was wrong. I thought the kid was stealing, so I chased him. As for Bobby, he fell in himself. I didn't kill anyone; it wasn't intentional."

Wayne was already babbling incoherently.

Hank ordered, "Take him back first. I'll interrogate him immediately."

Since everyone saw him stab Bobby's mother, Wayne had to be sent to the police.

Before sending Wayne in, they had to get some info out of him. Aurora handed the task of dealing with Wayne over to Hank.

Nothing else mattered right now. Loren was exhausted and super weak; she had to make sure he was okay.

They took Loren home first, changed him into dry clothes, and gave him some hot chicken soup to warm him up.

After Loren rested for a bit and got some strength back, Aurora finally learned the whole story of what happened that night.

As Loren was coming back from Hank's place, he saw Wayne sneaking into the archives room. Remembering what Aurora had said about catching a thief red-handed, Loren followed him to see what was up.

Bobby, who had come out to pee, also saw Wayne and got curious, so he approached.

Loren followed Wayne into the archives room and found that Wayne had knocked out the person guarding the room. Panicking, Loren ran out, and Wayne, seeing Bobby, pushed him in his panic and then chased after Loren.

Loren, being clever and knowing how to swim, jumped into the river and used the cover of the reeds to escape.

Loren swam far away but got too exhausted, so he rested on a wetland, waiting for rescue.

The mink, smart and empathetic, stayed with Loren. When the rescuers came, Loren saw the lights from afar but didn't have the strength to swim back. The mink dove into the water and led Lori to find Loren.

After hearing what happened, Aurora's heart pounded with fear and relief.

Later, through Hank's interrogation, it was confirmed that Wayne had stolen the secret formula. As for who he intended to sell it to, he wouldn't say.

Hank sent him to the police.

Aurora learned from Lori that the Wolfpack was currently experiencing internal strife. Since spies dared to appear in branches, there were likely spies at the headquarters as well. It reminded her of the situation with the Lewis Group back in the day. Reorganizing wouldn't be easy.

In the latter half of the night, seeing Loren asleep soundly, Aurora finally felt at ease.

Her phone rang; it was a message from John.

John: [Aurora, are you asleep?]

The simple and warm words made Aurora feel comfortable.

Aurora called back immediately, and John quickly answered. "Aurora, it's getting cold. Remember to wear more clothes and stay warm."

Aurora paused for a moment. "John, this doesn't sound like something you'd say. Who taught you that?"

Having known John for so long, Aurora knew he was thoughtful, but he had never said such nagging words before.

"Aurora, you're so smart." Hearing Aurora's voice, John missed her even more. "Jennifer said I'm careless and should care more about you. When are you coming back?"

"Ms. Johnson is quite thoughtful," Aurora said in a strange tone. "John, don't you feel particularly lonely and empty without me?"

John laughed, "I do feel quite lonely and cold. Maybe if someone could warm my bed, it would be better."

"John," Aurora said word by word, "then go find another woman to warm your bed."

John was baffled by her sudden anger. Before he could say anything, Aurora hung up. He immediately called back, but she didn't answer.

Aurora had never been so unreasonable before. However, John wasn't angry; instead, he smiled. His wife was finally jealous.

"Sam, prepare the helicopter." After hanging up, John immediately gave the order.

"Boss, is there an emergency?" Sam asked.

It was already early morning, and John would never use the helicopter unless it was urgent.

Thinking of Aurora's words, John smiled and said, "It's a bit cold tonight. Let's go to the Wolfpack branch to warm up."

Aurora was jealous and angry; how could he remain indifferent? Letting his woman go to bed angry was definitely not something a man should do.

Sam was confused. "Boss, we have heating at Nightfall too."

Tyler, standing nearby, rolled his eyes. "What an idiot. Boss is going to see Ms. White. Don't you get it? You're definitely single."

Sam retorted, "You're single just like me."
