Chapter 202 Mr. Lewis Kneels
How could John even think about taking money from Aurora for the meal? Sitting across from her, he felt totally deflated and bummed out. His wife was a tough nut to crack.
"Aurora, I've already kicked Jennifer out of the Meadowbrook villa. From now on, it's just you, our daughter, and me. No other woman will come near me—not even a fly."
Aurora kept a straight face, but inside, she was almost cracking up.
Seeing her stay silent, John slid over next to her. He swallowed his pride and softly said, "Aurora, if you don't want me to see Jennifer again, I won't. Those people don't matter; you and our kids are everything."
In front of the woman he loved, pride meant nothing. He messed up, so he had to fix it.
Aurora still didn't say a word. But in her mind, she was thinking that men's words could be so deceitful. Remembering the scene of John and Jennifer in bed, she wasn't going to let this slide easily.
Before she met John, she didn't care how many women he had or how far things had gone with Jennifer. But now that John was her man, she couldn't tolerate him mistreating her even a bit.
Taking a deep breath, Aurora looked at John and said calmly, "Domestic violence and cheating are absolutely intolerable."
"Injustice, Aurora, when did I cheat? You can't be so unreasonable."
"Hmm?" Aurora shot him an angry look. Did he just call her unreasonable?
John immediately admitted his mistake, feeling wronged and stubborn. "It's me being unreasonable. It's all on me, Aurora. I messed up. I wasn't strong enough, and I let my guard down. I drank the drugged wine, and I misjudged people. My head wasn't in the right place."
Aurora couldn't stand John's pitiful look. Loren used to look the same when he was wronged. These two were really alike.
A woman's heart was soft, and John, like he was casting a spell, kept whispering sweet nothings into Aurora. She felt a warm glow inside and a little light-headed. If she didn't have such strong willpower, she would have given in a long time ago.
John held Aurora's hand and kept gently saying, "Aurora, give me another chance."
"No, I still can't trust you." Aurora refused to relent. How could she forgive so easily?
Staring at Aurora for a few seconds, John let go of her and said, "Looks like I have to use my ultimate move."
Aurora was curious, what ultimate move?
Then she saw John walk into the kitchen. She didn't know what he was doing in there, but she heard some noises. Curious, she craned her neck to look but saw nothing.
Seeing John was about to come back, Aurora quickly sat properly and kept a cold face, ready to watch John's performance.
In her life, she had never felt so right. How could she miss such a good opportunity to teach John a lesson?
John came back with Aurora's favorite chocolate cake in his hands.
"John, don't try that with me. First, you hid your identity. You pretended to be a driver but actually had a billion-dollar fortune. Now, an ex-girlfriend shows up. She stayed at our house under the guise of friendships, and you even went to a hotel for her birthday. You have a girlfriend! When I broke up with Daniel, I cut off all contact. What about you?" Aurora stated firmly.
"Aurora, it wasn't my intention. Nothing happened between me and Jennifer. Besides, you gave Jennifer that birthday gift. Wasn't that provoking her to try to steal your man?"
"So now it's my fault?"
"No, it's still my fault. You did nothing wrong," John quickly replied.
Given Jennifer's previous provocations, Aurora had indeed written the URL of an adult website on a card as a birthday gift for Jennifer. And she had written on the card, "Take care of your physical and mental health."
Aurora did regret it a bit. However, now it was all John's fault, and she wouldn't let him divert the blame. "I did it with good intentions. It was to test you. Clearly, you failed the test. How can I trust my life to a man with weak willpower?"
Arguing with a woman was a dead end.
Suddenly, Aurora realized something. "How do you know what I gave her? Did you two look at it together?" Her tone was filled with anger, ready to ignite at any moment.
"No, Todd was curious and opened it. I accidentally glanced at it," John explained. "I was unconscious after being drugged. Really, I had just woken up when you arrived."
Aurora sneered, "So I came at the wrong time?"
"No, Aurora, what I mean is, you came just in time. If you had come a bit later, I would have been assaulted."
Aurora was furious. "John, I saw you two about to kiss."
John quickly soothed her, "Aurora, calm down. Be careful of the baby."
Aurora snapped, "Don't change the subject."
"I'm not," John said, feeling helpless.
"You still won't admit your mistake." Aurora stood up in anger.
John immediately dropped to his knees to beg for forgiveness, but in his desperation, he banged his knee against the table. His pride was completely crushed. But at that moment, making it up to his wife was all that mattered.
With that kneel, the room fell silent. The dynamics of their relationship were suddenly crystal clear.
Aurora was shocked. "John, you... Who told you to kneel?"
"Forgive me, please." John continued to kneel. His knee really hurt.
Aurora was so stunned by his actions that she couldn't speak.
At the same time, Lori and Ava came back. "Aurora, Robert and Christopher are causing trouble again..."
Before Lori could finish her sentence, they saw the scene as they walked in. They hadn't expected to see John kneeling.
"John, what are you doing?" Lori looked at John in surprise.
John didn't show any expression on his face while he subtly stood up and said, "I accidentally slipped. By the way, do you want some cake?"
"Aurora, try this." John cut a piece of cake for Aurora.
Everyone was stunned for a moment.
Indeed, John was really something.
Lori felt a bit speechless. "John, the cake you bought is really good."
Everyone knew the truth but didn't expose it.
Aurora restrained herself and took the cake John handed her. A man's pride could be set aside at home temporarily, but it had to be maintained in front of others.
Aurora ate the cake and said, "It tastes pretty good."
"As long as you like it." John smiled.
Aurora changed the subject. "Lori, what were you saying about Robert and the others?"
Lori replied, "They offended several distributors who were supposed to work with Wolfpack. Now those people want to cancel their contracts and not cooperate with us anymore."
Aurora frowned. "It's not that they don't want to work with Wolfpack, but they don't want to work with me. They must have reached some agreement in private. Lori, arrange a dinner with the distributors tonight."
John stood silently by Aurora's side and rubbed his knee while they talked. It really hurt.
