Chapter 378: Tricking Alexander
John first took the group to the side hall to rest.
Dean drank a whole glass of water, finally calming his nerves a bit. He glanced at Wendy sitting next to him out of the corner of his eye.
Just like he remembered.
"It's been over ten years, and you're still so beautiful. You haven't changed a bit. Unlike me, I've aged," Dean voiced with deep emotion.
Hearing Dean praise Wendy's beauty, Alexander immediately got jealous and sarcastically interrupted, "Beautiful? She's over fifty. No matter how much she maintains herself, she's still a grandmother. Who knows how many layers of makeup she's wearing. If you don't believe me, ask her to remove it, it'll scare you to death."
Wendy's face darkened, anger brewing.
As a junior, John naturally didn't intervene, watching Alexander teeter on the edge of disaster.
Samuel leisurely sipped his tea, having long been accustomed to Alexander's sharp tongue.
Kevin and Ashley, being outsiders, kept quiet as well.
Seeing Wendy's displeased expression, Dean, being quite perceptive, tried to smooth things over, "I think her skin looks quite natural. If you didn't say anything, I'd really think she was a girl in her twenties."
One was desperately trying to say nice things to calm the situation, while the other was recklessly courting disaster.
Alexander sneered, "A girl in her twenties? Haha, Dean, you really know how to lie through your teeth."
"Alexander," Wendy couldn't take it anymore and directly made a move, "I may be an old woman, but you're still no match for me."
Wendy kicked at Alexander, who reflexively dodged, further angering her. The two started fighting in the side hall.
Surprisingly, no one tried to stop them.
Todd asked John, "John, your mother-in-law and father-in-law are fighting, aren't you going to stop them?"
"To avoid getting caught in the crossfire, it's best to stay put," John took a sip of tea and said meaningfully, "I find this scene very familiar, Todd, don't you?"
Todd covered his face and said nothing.
Of course, it was familiar. Lori treated him the same way.
They would start fighting at the slightest disagreement.
When Aurora arrived, she happened to see Wendy land a palm strike on Alexander's chest.
Alexander took a few steps back to steady himself, rubbing his chest but still not backing down, "That temper of yours, only Samuel can tolerate it. Over the years, as you've aged, your temper has only gotten worse. I think it's Samuel who spoiled you."
Samuel, being dragged into it, immediately distanced himself, "I haven't seen her make a move in years, Alexander. Don't drag me into this, it has nothing to do with me. It's purely because of your foul mouth."
Only Samuel dared to call Alexander foul-mouthed.
Wendy's chest heaved with anger, "Samuel, why waste words with someone like him? He's just stubborn and won't listen unless you beat him."
Could Alexander really not beat Wendy?
Impossible.
He just couldn't bring himself to really fight her. His foul mouth was driven by male pride and jealousy.
When they fought, Alexander felt like he was back in the old days. Meeting Wendy again was nothing like he had imagined, and the gap between reality and his expectations was huge.
Wendy had always been accompanied by Samuel. The ninety-six letters in the mahogany box were filled with deep love and longing, but when they met again, it all seemed like Alexander's one-sided wish. Despite everything, there was still something between them that kept them apart.
What could Alexander do?
He could only keep opposing Wendy, just like in the old days.
But seeing Wendy genuinely angry, Alexander felt a pang of heartache.
When Aurora arrived, Alexander frantically winked at her, hoping she would help mediate.
But it turned out, even his own daughter couldn't be relied on.
Aurora pretended not to see Alexander's signals, smiling lightly, "Are you two adding to the wedding festivities? Everyone, don't just watch the show. How about we place some bets on who will win? I'll go first. I'm betting on my mom to win, ten to one odds."
Everyone was amazed.
This was Alexander's own daughter.
Samuel glanced at Aurora with a loving smile. Aurora really resembled Wendy when she was young.
"I'll place a bet too." Samuel took out a stack of money, "Wendy, I'm betting on you to win."
"My wife placed a bet, so I will too." John didn't have cash, so he took off his expensive watch.
With someone leading, Todd, Lori, and Dean also placed bets, all betting on Wendy to win.
Alexander stood alone, with no one supporting him.
Alexander glared at Aurora and whispered, "Are you really my daughter? How could you set me up like this?"
Aurora smiled, "Because you're my dad."
Kevin and Dean, standing nearby, shivered.
Wendy's anger subsided a bit. With her daughter supporting her and standing on the same side, she naturally felt happy.
Alexander, feeling frustrated, played the rogue, "I'm done fighting. Dean, John, let's go have a drink."
With Alexander speaking, John naturally had to accompany him.
Aurora signaled John to go.
Kevin and his wife went to the front hall, while Aurora and Wendy went to the lounge.
Wendy took out a prepared gift and handed it to Aurora, "Aurora, this is my token of appreciation. Please accept it."
Aurora hesitated for a moment before taking the box. Inside was a pair of exquisitely designed, expensive bracelets.
"Mom, how long do you plan to stay this time?"
Aurora had indeed harbored resentment before, but after seeing Helen's passing, she let go of that resentment.
She feared she would regret not having the chance to properly honor her parents in the future.
In the end, what fault did her mother have?
She was a mother, but she was also her own person.
Being a mother was just one identity, and it didn't mean she had to sacrifice everything for her children.
"I'm not sure. I might stay for a long time, or I might go back with Samuel," Wendy said, her heart clear. She held Aurora's hand, tears welling up, "Seeing you in a wedding dress, becoming the most beautiful bride, makes me very happy."
Lori was in the hotel backyard, actually avoiding Todd.
With Aurora and Wendy together, Lori didn't have to worry about Aurora's safety.
Seeing Aurora and Wendy reunite, Lori felt a bit melancholic.
She missed her own mother too.
But her memories of her mother were already fading.
"Lori."
A male voice called out, and Lori steadied herself before turning to see Jack.
"What are you doing here?"
Lori knew Jack was her brother, but she didn't feel that deep sibling bond.
They had only spent a few days together, even counting the time Jack was brought back to the Wolfpack by Richard. How could there be a deep sibling bond in such a short time?
"You're my sister. Can't I come to see you?" Jack smiled, "Lori, Richard is in prison now. From now on, we're the closest people in the world."
"Don't mention that person in front of me again," Lori was clearly repulsed, not wanting to talk about or hear about him. She frowned and asked, "He's been caught for so long, where have you been all this time?"
