Chapter 68 Complaints from Summer

Loren's howl immediately alerted the hospital cleaner.

Seeing Loren being hit by a grown man, the cleaner rushed out and pointed at Daniel, accusing him. "How can you hit a child? He's just a little kid."

Loren continued to cry. "Help! I don't know this bad man. He's going to kill me. It hurts so much."

Daniel's was nearly apoplectic with anger. This kid was such a liar.

When did he ever say he was going to kill Loren?

Daniel hadn't even laid a hand on him.

He hadn't even touched him.

Hearing Loren call out to her, the cleaning staff's heart ached. She yanked the child away from Daniel.

"So you're a kidnapper. Kidnappers are so brazen these days, coming to the hospital to snatch and hit children." The cleaning staff took out her phone and grabbed Daniel. "Don't go anywhere. I'm calling the police right now to have you arrested."

Loren stood behind her, sticking his tongue out at Daniel and looking extremely smug.

"Naughty kid," Daniel said, fuming.

"Oh no, he's hitting me again! Look, he's going to hit me again," Loren hid behind the cleaner, pretending to cry.

"How dare you hit children!" The cleaner picked up a nearby mop and started hitting Daniel with it. "You despicable kidnapper. You look so refined, but you do such wicked things. Don't worry, little boy, I'll protect you."

"Stop that!" Daniel was caught off guard by the beating.

The cleaner was hitting him with a mop that had been used to clean the bathroom, and the smell was unbearable.

Covered in the stench of urine and the mop's foul odor, Daniel was furious.

The commotion attracted some onlookers, and the cleaner shouted for someone to call the police to arrest the kidnapper.

Daniel didn't want to be humiliated, and if he were to be taken to the police station and accused of being a kidnapper, he'd be the laughingstock of the city.

He had no choice but to concede defeat this time.

"Let go," Daniel angrily broke free from the cleaner's grasp and quickly left the hospital.

He was in a terrible state.

The smell of urine was so strong that everyone he walked past covered their noses and avoided him.

Daniel's anger grew with every step he took. He took off his jacket, wiped his face, and threw it into the trash can.

Aurora noticed that Loren was missing and hurried out to find him, only to see the cleaner kindly bringing Loren back to her room.

Loren had charmed the cleaner completely, and they were chatting and laughing.

"Loren, where did you go?" Aurora was extremely worried.

"Is this your child? You need to keep a better eye on him. Kidnappers are rampant now, even coming to the hospital to snatch kids. Your child was almost taken by a kidnapper." The cleaner patted Loren's head and smiled. "This kid is so adorable."

"You're cool too. Thank you for helping me chase away the bad man," Loren said sweetly.

"Such a sweet talker. I really like you," the cleaner said, beaming.

Aurora and Sophia exchanged glances, feeling  rather confused.

Later, back in the ward, Loren finally confessed to what had happened.

Hearing that Daniel got a face full of urine, Sophia laughed heartily. "Loren, you're amazing. That must have been so satisfying."

Aurora couldn't help but chuckle too, but remembering Daniel's temper, she warned Loren. "You can't do that again. I'm grateful you stood up for me, but you're still young and could get hurt. What would you have done without that cleaner's help?"

Loren replied, "Don't worry, sis. I run fast. I won't get caught next time. I didn't plan things thoroughly this time around."

"Loren," Aurora said, sternly.

Loren obediently replied, "I understand. I won't do it again."

Sophia also realized the seriousness of the situation. What if Loren had really been hit?

Sophia whispered to Loren, "Next time something like this happens, call me."

The two exchanged knowing looks and reached an agreement.

Not long after Daniel left, Kevin and his wife arrived. After some concern and inquiries, they told Aurora to rest well.

Aurora didn't want to stay in the hospital and said, "I'm fine. I want to be discharged."

Ashley said, "You were in such a serious car accident and almost lost your life, yet you say you're fine? Stay a few more days for observation. I'll go home and get you some nutritious food."

Kevin asked, "Aurora, you mentioned someone else was with you in the accident. How is he?"

"His family took him away."

Aurora didn't say much about John, and she didn't dare share her suspicions with Kevin.

Kevin secretly breathed a sigh of relief. He knew about John's accident when he heard about Aurora's, but the Lewis family had kept the news tightly sealed, and he couldn't get any details.

Rex and Wade were also making moves, and Kevin didn't know if he could win this gamble.

If John was fine, he would win.

If something happened to John, he wouldn't win, but he wouldn't lose either.

After staying at the hospital for a while, Kevin had to leave for work, and Ashley was eager to go home and prepare nutritious food for Aurora, so they left.

After Kevin and his wife left, Dean and Nicole arrived.

Aurora had Sophia send them away; she didn't want to see either of them.

There was still no news from Todd, and she was anxious.

"Sis, are you thirsty? Let me get you some water," Loren was a very considerate boy and knew how to take care of people.

"Loren, I'm not thirsty."

As soon as Aurora finished speaking, her phone rang. It was Todd.

Aurora eagerly answered. "Mr. Smith, how is he?"

"He's not out of danger yet, but his leg is temporarily saved," Todd said ambiguously.

"Not out of danger," Aurora murmured, then asked, "Can I see him?"

"I'm afraid it's not convenient," Todd said, "Miss White, please be patient. John's blood has almost been completely replaced. His life is temporarily saved, but the doctors say there might be side effects to the treatment, and it's uncertain when he'll wake up. He might not wake up at all."

Aurora felt like she had been plunged into icy water. She asked, "What do you mean by 'might not wake up'?"

"He might end up in a persistent vegetative state," Todd said gravely. "Miss White, if John does end up in a vegetative state, don't be too sad. He willingly risked his life to save yours. He wouldn't want you to be sad."

Todd's update on John's condition made Aurora even more depressed.

As she thought about the moment the car hit the rock wall and how John protected her, she started to cry.

To have a man willing to risk his life to protect her was such a great blessing.

Meanwhile, at Nightfall headquarters, Todd hung up on Aurora and broke into a smile.Suddenly, a voice came from behind him.

"Who said John would end up in a vegetative state? I have never failed to save anyone. He's out of danger and will wake up in a few hours."

Todd turned around and smiled. "I'm just trying to help John. He risked his life to save Aurora. It's a 'wounded hero' act. Such a good opportunity shouldn't be wasted."

As he spoke, Todd looked at Summer, who was standing behind Gary, and asked, "Wasn't this your idea? A 'wounded hero' act combined with relentless pursuit, which no woman can resist."

Summer retorted, "The 'wounded hero' act almost cost him his life. If word got out that the leader of Nightfall died in a car accident while pursuing a woman, he'd be the butt of everyone's jokes for years."
