Chapter 176 Low-Level Tricks

Aurora listened closely. Just from the sounds, she could picture the scene.

Aurora quickly dismissed the thought that John was cheating on her, trusting him enough, but she couldn't help feeling unsettled because no woman could stay calm hearing such sounds from her man's phone.

Aurora kept her cool and told Loren, "Loren, you go to bed first. Mommy's gotta take a call outside."

She didn't want Loren to hear those sounds and get the wrong idea.

Aurora stepped out to the balcony and put the phone on speaker.

There were no other sounds from the phone, just the noises of a man and woman going at it.

Aurora listened carefully. The call definitely wasn't from John, and there was only Jennifer who could pull this off with John's phone.

As Aurora listened, she realized something odd. It wasn't John's voice at all.

Since the other side wasn't talking, Aurora spoke up first, "Quite the show, but from the guy's voice, I can tell he's not in great shape. Ms. Johnson, which site did you get this video from? Share it with me later, I'd like to check it out too."

The sounds kept going, and the woman's voice got even more excited.

Aurora was almost amused by this low-level trick.

"Ms. Johnson, I know better than you what John is like in bed, his stamina and endurance. He can go several rounds without even breaking a sweat. What you're playing for me must be a video. Honestly, the guy in it is too weak. If you're into this stuff, Ms. Johnson, I can recommend some sites to you later to satisfy your endless cravings."

After she finished, the call ended.

Aurora smirked, "Playing games with me, she must be losing it."

But then she thought, what if Jennifer really lost it and fainted again? If something serious happened, she'd be to blame.

Silvercrest City.

Meadowbrook Villa.

After angrily hanging up the phone, Jennifer quickly took some meds.

She took several deep breaths and, seeing the video still playing on her phone, angrily turned it off.

She hadn't expected this would fail to drive a wedge between Aurora and John.

She even started to doubt if Aurora was really a woman. How could she be so rational, not jealous at all, and see through her scheme?

What Aurora just said, "I know better than you what John is like in bed," almost made Jennifer spit blood in anger.

Hearing footsteps approaching, Jennifer quickly deleted the call log from John's phone and put it back in place.

The door opened, and John came in with a stack of documents. Seeing Jennifer making his bed, he frowned slightly. "Jennifer, you don't need to do that."

"It's just a habit." Jennifer smiled gently. "I used to make your bed like this too."

"Okay." John put down the documents and picked up his phone. "It's getting late, Jennifer. You should go to your room and rest. I still have some work to finish."

"Alright." Jennifer casually asked, "John, why didn't I see Ms. White today?"

"She went on a trip." John's words were a mix of truth and lies.

"John, be honest with me. Did you two have a fight? Does Ms. White not like me staying here and misunderstand us?" Jennifer said, acting all concerned about John and Aurora's relationship.

"Aurora isn't that petty. You're overthinking it." John said. "She took Loren out for a bit. She'll be back soon."

"Where did Ms. White go on her trip?"

Jennifer sought Aurora's whereabouts to hire someone to assassinate her, ensuring she would never return.

John put down his work and looked at Jennifer with a smile, "You seem quite concerned about her. I thought you didn't like her."

"How could I not? I try to like the people you like, and Ms. White is really great. I genuinely hope to get along with her," Jennifer smiled, "Girls are more sensitive. Maybe Ms. White is upset, and you don't even know it. You're still as clueless as ever. Now that the weather is getting colder, you should care more about her while she's out."

John replied, "Alright, I got it."

"Okay, I won't bother you then." Jennifer considerately closed the door and left.

Once out of the room, the smile on her face quickly vanished. Back in her room, Jennifer made a call to the hitman she had hired. "I asked you to hire Lori to kill Aurora. Is it done?"

"Ms. Johnson, Lori raised the price again. She thinks ten million dollars is too little and is now asking for fifty million dollars, all in one payment."

Jennifer responded, "Alright, I'll handle the price negotiation with Lori. Give me her contact information."

The next day.

Aurora woke up naturally, hearing birds chirping. It had been a long time since she had heard birds since she lived in the city.

She opened the window and breathed in the fresh air, feeling refreshed. There were still dewdrops on the grass. The morning mist made it feel like she was in a fairyland.

Aurora sighed, "This is really a great place to retire."

"Aurora, come down for breakfast." Lori shouted from downstairs.

Loren was already up. After washing up, Aurora went downstairs to a table with delicious baked apple pie and baked cheese pasta.

Aurora had a great appetite and ate a lot.

Lori reminded her, "Aurora, be careful about your figure, or John might dislike you."

"If he dares to dislike me, I'll kick him first." Feeling full, Aurora patted her full stomach.

Loren ran in from outside and handed over some milk. "Mommy, this is fresh milk from Bobcat. He said it's for you."

Lori was jealous. "Wow, such different treatment. He glares at me, but brings milk for Aurora."

Ava couldn't help but comment, "You always greet him with your fists. It's no wonder he's not nice to you."

"That's not my fault. He always picks fights with me. I'm already very respectful."

Aurora took the milk and shared it with Loren.

Hank was truly stingy, only giving enough for her and Loren, not considering Lori and Ava at all.

Lori gritted her teeth. "Hank must do this on purpose. I'm going to slaughter his cow and we'll have roast beef tonight."

Aurora was amused by her words, "If you kill the cow, there won't be any milk."

At that moment, the computer beeped with a message notification.

Ava said, "Lori, there's a new task."

Lori immediately came back. She opened the message and glanced at Aurora, "Aurora, the price has gone up again. Twenty-five million to take your life."

"Won't pay fifty million but wants to hire a hitman. So stingy." Aurora put down the milk and walked to the computer.

On the screen was a chat window. The other party's username was "Rat," with no other information.

In the chat window, there was just one line: [Twenty-five million to kill Aurora.]

Usually, such deals are paid in full only after an agreement is reached.

Lori asked, "Aurora, should I ask for more?"

"With this kind of bargaining, even if you ask for more, it won't go beyond thirty million." Aurora said. "Let me handle it."

"Alright." Lori relinquished her seat, standing aside to sip her coffee.

Aurora sat in front of the computer, and, after pondering for a moment, typed a line: [One hundred million.]

Seeing the number, Lori spat out her coffee.

Aurora rolled her eyes, "Even John is worth a hundred million. Why shouldn't I be? Besides, I'm carrying two lives now. One hundred million is still too little."

Loren said, "Mommy, maybe we should ask for more. There are four of us to split it."

What kind of family was this?

Lori said, "I'd really love to see the look on their face if they knew the person they wanted to kill is bargaining here."

At that moment, Jennifer on the other end of the computer was totally surprised by Aurora's message.

Wasn't bargaining supposed to lower the price? How was it going up?

Before Jennifer could respond, Aurora sent another message: [John Lewis of the Lewis Group in Silvercrest City is worth a hundred million. I checked, this Aurora is his fiancée. Asking for a hundred million isn't too much. Is this gender discrimination?]
