Chapter 282 Summer's Perspective Faces Merciless Ridicule
Lori quickly threw everyone into the pond one by one.
The four people surrounding Loren saw this and tried to run.
Lori coldly smirked. "Trying to run? All of you, get in the water."
Lori grabbed one in each hand and yanked them back, throwing them all into the pond.
The pond was about 5 feet 2 inches, just enough to submerge their necks.
The commotion in the front village alarmed the people in the back hills.
Lucas realized that Summer and Loren were missing, so he brought along dozens of crew members to search the front village for them.
At this moment, Sandra stumbled and climbed into one of the cars. The driver in red long johns quickly got in as well.
"Hurry, drive," Sandra shouted urgently.
Seeing Sandra trying to escape, Lori yelled to the villagers, "They're human traffickers; stop them."
The villagers was agitated, grabbed their tools, and blocked the way. Lucas was stunned for a moment, then immediately rushed forward to stop the car, calling out, "Everyone, help out."
The crew blocked the road; while villagers even used hoes to smash the car and its doors.
The driver panicked. "Ms. Johnson, what do we do?"
"Step on the gas; drive out," Sandra was also anxious. "If they have a death wish, they can just stand there."
The driver couldn't care less and stepped on the gas, driving straight out.
Lucas shouted, "Everyone, get out of the way."
People quickly moved aside; they couldn't risk their lives.
After thecar sped away, Sandra looked back at the villagers and Lori in the field, gritting her teeth. She wouldn't let this go.
Sandra's face was covered in mud, only her eyes moving.
She had never suffered such humiliation in her life.
The car was out of sight, and Lori didn't chase after it; it was too late anyway.
She said to Lucas, "Handsome, please call the police. These people are human traffickers."
Lori couldn't say they were thugs; she didn't want to scare the villagers, so she said they were traffickers.
When Aurora was giving birth, Lucas had seen Lori. Although he only glanced at her, he did notice her striking beauty but did not pay much attention to her.
Now, Lori stood there, confidently shaking her leg, occasionally poking the traffickers trying to climb out of the pond with a stick.
Lori was dressed in a white blouse, cinched at the waist with a black belt that accentuated her slender figure. She wore light-colored skinny jeans paired with black combat boots. Her hair was tied in a ponytail, giving her an effortlessly chic and dashing appearance.
The scene seemed frozen in time, stunning Lucas.
Not only Lucas, but many in the crew were also stunned. Such a cool beauty was rare.
Lucas snapped out of it. "Did you handle all these people by yourself?"
Lori glanced disdainfully at the people in the pond. "Yeah, it was effortless."
Lucas swallowed hard and thought, 'she is truly impressive."
Seven grown men, and none were a match for Lori.
Lucas called the police and quickly checked on Summer and Loren. "Are you two okay?"
Lucas was a bit scared; if something had happened, he would have been in big trouble.
He thought of the call from Aurora earlier, blaming himself for not being more careful.
"We're fine," Summer shook her head, putting away his slingshot.
Loren, holding a wooden stick, squatted by the shore, hitting the traffickers' heads like playing Whac-A-Mole. "You deserve it.""
The early spring water was cold, and the seven men were shivering after a short time in the water.
One of them pleaded, "Let us out first; it's cold."
"Stay put," Lori shot a cold glance, then called Aurora to report their safety.
The police arrived quickly and were impressed to learn Lori had subdued so many people by herself.
The seven men was taken to the police station; Summer, Loren, and Lori also went there to give their statements.
Lori, Summer, and Loren agreed to say the people were traffickers, making Sandra the runaway ringleader and a top fugitive.
After completing all the procedures, the usually silent Captain Allan Jennings suddenly approached Lori. Due to years of rigorous training, Allan was tall and muscular, with chiseled features that exuded an air of intimidation when he stood before others.
Lori became cautious. "What do you want?"
"Hello, I'm Allan, captain of the criminal investigation team. I'd like to invite you to join us," Allan said seriously, "Our department is short-staffed. Ms. Hernandez, are you interested in becoming a police officer to protect citizens' lives and property."
Lori's eyes widened; did she hear that right?
She was being invited to become a police officer?
Lori chuckled awkwardly, actually a bit tempted.
The job was very stable, backed by the powerful state, making her even more formidable.
Moreover, Allan possessed the kind of looks that Lori fancied. By joining this department, she would be able to see him every day.
Summer and Loren also found it unbelievable, exchanging glances, thinking it was a joke.
Allan stood tall and said, "Ms. Hernandez, you can think about it. We look forward to your joining. Here's my number."
Lori, lost in her daydreams, smiled sweetly and took the card. "I'll consider it."
"Lori, we should go," Summer interrupted Lori's fantasy, whispering, "Wipe your drool."
Lori snapped back to reality, quickly wiping her mouth, realizing Summer had tricked her.
"Damn, even you tricked me." Lori glared at Summer. "Let's go."
Lori waved to Allan. "Mr. Jennings, goodbye!"
She was rarely this friendly to anyone.
"Let's go," Summer pulled her away.
"Slow down, Summer. Why are you in such a hurry? I haven't seen enough handsome men yet," Lori said as they walked out, encountering a group of returning officers, "Indeed, all the good-looking ones become cops, making it hard for me to find a boyfriend."
Summer quickly retorted, "The men in Nightfall are all handsome. Todd is elegant..."
Lori remarked, "Todd's skinny frame is a no-go."
Summer shook his head and thought he had tried his best.
