Chapter 305: Sleeping in the Hallway on the Wedding Night

Todd's last words made John and Gary look at the same time.

It's understandable for John to be worried since he's already married, but what is Todd's deal ?

Todd, being stared at by both of them, rolled his eyes and looked at them. Before he could speak, Summer imitated John's tone and said slowly, "Todd, are you lost in thought?"

"What!" Todd sat up excitedly, but with too much force, his casted hand hit the sofa, causing him so much pain that his face contorted: "Mr. Lewis, it's all your fault. You married Mrs. Lewis, and Lori came along. Now she keeps showing up, how can I have a good life?"

"Hmm?" John's eyebrows furrowed.

Todd's confidence waned, and he muttered, "I'm just caught in the crossfire, that's all."

Gary said meaningfully, "From Ms. Hernandez's tone earlier, it sounded like you provoked her. Todd, John married Aurora and gets injured every now and then, keeping me very busy. Please don't provoke Ms. Hernandez again; I can't handle it."

"Who provoked her?" Todd's words lacked confidence, knowing full well today's mess was his doing. "I'm heading back. If there are any tasks coming up, don't call me; I'm recovering."

With that, Todd got up and really left with both hands in casts.

When he went out, his hands were fine, but when he came home, both hands were injured, and his face was swollen. Todd's mother, Melissa Clark, got up in the middle of the night to drink water and didn't recognize Todd at first.

Melissa was startled and screamed, "Who are you? Bruce, there's a burglar in our house."

Todd was speechless; he was really beaten so badly that his parents didn't recognize him.

"Mom, it's me." Todd voiced helplessly, "Your son, take a closer look."

Todd moved closer for Melissa to see. After looking, Melissa was startled again, "Todd, what happened to you? Who did this?"

Bruce Smith, hearing his wife's voice, came out wearing a coat. Seeing Todd, he was stunned and blurted out, "Is this still my son?"

Todd: "Absolutely."

"Todd, who beat you like this? Both hands are injured; how violent and cruel must they be?" Melissa was heartbroken.

Despite her heartache, Melissa looked at her son's face and almost couldn't help but laugh.

Todd looked at Bruce, "Dad, I'm starting to doubt if I'm really your biological son."

Bruce asked, "What exactly happened?"

"It's a long story, beaten by a shrew." Todd replied.

Melissa was shocked, "A woman? Todd, how fierce must she be to hit so hard?"

Thinking of Lori beating him, Todd shivered, "Very fierce. Such a woman is destined to remain single. I'm going to sleep now; you two should rest early too."

Todd walked towards the bedroom, and Bruce and Melissa exchanged a glance.

Melissa was a bit excited, "Bruce, is our son about to start dating?"

"He's beaten like this, how can he date?" Bruce asked, feeling confused.

"Look, Todd mentioned the person who beat him without any anger; he must be interested in the girl." Melissa explained.

Bruce looked towards Todd's bedroom and muttered, "How deep must the feelings be to get beaten like this?"

The next day.

After reporting to the police station, Lori went to the Lewis family with Ava.

Aurora was leisurely pruning flowers. The children were with the nannies, and John hadn't come home all night, but she didn't call to ask.

"Aurora, you have such a good attitude." Lori admired Aurora's leisure.

Aurora asked, "Why are you two here so early?"

Lori answered, "To check on John. Is he seriously injured?"

Aurora paused her actions, "What injury?"

Lori's heart skipped a beat; she was in trouble.

Lori changed the subject, "Aurora, your flowers look great, all pruned down to nothing."

Aurora snipped off the pruned parts, "Spill it, what happened?"

Lori instinctively touched her neck, "John got injured last night, at the Meadowbrook villa."

"Injured where?" Aurora knew John was hiding something. Hearing he was injured, she immediately got nervous, "Is it serious?"

"Probably not serious." Lori didn't check last night, but from Gary's reaction and description, it shouldn't be serious.

"Gideon, get the car, we're going to the Meadowbrook villa." Aurora called out, threw down the scissors, and hurried off.

As Aurora left, Lori pulled Ava to leave, "Ava, let's go quickly."

If they didn't leave now, they'd be in trouble.

Ava voiced, "You said you wanted to watch the drama."

"Not anymore, let's get to work." Lori said, "Mr. Jennings gave us a task, let's finish it quickly."

After a few steps, Lori suddenly remembered, "Ava, are we getting paid today?"

They had been employed for a while, and although it hadn't been a full month, it was payday, and they still needed to get their wages.

Ava nodded, "I think so."

Lori was a bit excited, "Ava, what are you planning to do with your paycheck? I'm going to have a big meal, filet mignon, caviar, foie gras..."

Before she finished, both their phones rang simultaneously with bank deposit notifications.

They took out their phones and looked at the bank messages. Lori counted, "Two thousand seven hundred fifty-eight dollars? Ava, how much did you get?"

"Over three thousand two hundred dollars."

"Why are ours different?" Lori was unhappy.

Ava reminded, "Last week, you broke the rules and got docked two hundred dollars. The week before, you injured someone on a mission and got docked three hundred dollars."

Lori stared at her paycheck, losing all enthusiasm.

With such a small paycheck, one meal would be gone.

If she violated the rules a bit more, she'd owe money?

"Ava, should we quit? This job is a scam." Lori was on the verge of tears, "Mr. Jennings is too cunning. He said the benefits were good and the salary was high."

Ava couldn't help but laugh, "You dragged me into this job."

Just then, Allan called, "There's a mission. Someone is threatening to jump off North River Bridge. Get there quickly."

"Mr. Jennings, got it."

Lori, despite saying she wanted to quit, was the first to sprint into action when a mission came up.

At the Meadowbrook villa.

Aurora stared angrily at John lying in bed. John didn't dare meet her gaze.

After a few minutes, John gave in.

"Honey, I was wrong." John voiced.

"Nothing you say or do will change anything." Aurora was furious, "Why don't you just cripple both legs to make a pair?"

He almost hit a major artery. A slight mistake, and it wouldn't just be a crippled leg, but his life.

John had punished Chris because of her, and Chris was paying the price with his leg. How could she not be livid?

"Honey, it's just a minor injury." John grinned, "Don't be mad. I know you care about me. Our wedding is in three months. My leg will be fine by then. I'll make sure you're satisfied on our wedding night. I've timed it perfectly..."

"Stop grinning, John, be serious." Aurora spoke coldly, "Think about what you did wrong. If you can't figure it out, you'll sleep in the hallway on our wedding night."
