Chapter 7: Kissing in Public
Aurora and Sophia met at the café.
As soon as they met, Sophia worriedly said, "Aurora, why did you leave last night? I called you but you didn't answer. I was so worried."
"Sophia, I'm sorry. I drank too much last night," Aurora said apologetically. "I took a cab home by myself. Don't be mad. What do you want to drink? It's on me."
Aurora didn't dare to say she left with a man.
"As long as you're okay. Keep your salary for yourself," Sophia sighed in relief and asked, "Are you going back to the White family?"
"No, it's not my home anymore," Aurora said with a bitter smile. She had moved out of the White family and rented a place.
If it weren't for the wedding, she wouldn't have returned to the White family.
Sophia's words reminded Aurora that the past few days felt like a dream. Whether it was her stepmother's schemes or Daniel's change of heart, her life had to go on.
She had taken a two-week leave, and it ended tomorrow. To survive in this city, she had to work.
She wasn't some rich heiress. Apart from her last name being White, everything about the White family had nothing to do with her.
Aurora returned to work at her company.
No one in the company knew she was the eldest daughter of the White family, nor did anyone know about her relationship with Daniel.
Aurora had a somewhat cold personality and never mentioned her relationship with Daniel or that she almost married into the Taylor family.
Everyone in the company thought Aurora was single and just an ordinary person.
Back at work, Aurora quickly got into the groove, using her job to numb herself and stop thinking about Daniel.
After parting ways with John, they hadn't seen each other for over half a month, only staying in touch via Telegram.
Aurora worked as a translator and often worked late into the night.
One day.
Aurora worked until eleven at night, the last to leave the office.
She was about to miss the last bus.
Aurora hurried to catch it but was a step too late and could only watch the last bus drive away.
"Looks like I'll have to take a cab again."Aurora muttered to herself, feeling a bit sorry for her wallet.
Just then, a familiar car slowly pulled up in front of Aurora.
The window rolled down, and John poked his head out, smiling, "Aurora, get in."
Aurora was momentarily stunned when she saw John.
They hadn't seen each other for over half a month. John hadn't suggested meeting, and she hadn't asked either. With their busy schedules, they rarely chatted on Telegram.
Aurora had almost forgotten she had a boyfriend.
Seeing Aurora in a daze, John got out of the car, opened the door for her like a gentleman, and looked at her lovingly, "What's wrong? Haven't seen your boyfriend in half a month and don't recognize me? Looks like we need to make a deeper impression tonight."
"What brings you here?" Aurora snapped out of her thoughts, quite surprised.
"Got off work early today to spend time with you," John said with a gentle smile. "I've been busy lately and neglected you. You're not mad, are you?"
"No, I've been pretty busy myself," Aurora replied as she got in. She wasn't mad; she actually felt a bit guilty for almost forgetting she had a boyfriend.
"Haven't had dinner yet, right? Let's grab a bite," John said as he drove. "From now on, I'll pick you up and drop you off at work. It's not safe for a girl to be out late alone."
"No need to trouble yourself."
Before Aurora could finish, John said, "You're my girlfriend now. It's a boyfriend's duty to pick up and drop off his girlfriend."
It was already late, and many restaurants were closed.
John drove to an upscale restaurant, Villa Kitchen.
Aurora had been there once with Sophia. This restaurant wasn't just about money; one needed a certain social status to get in.
Moreover, the restaurant only served fifty guests a day.
Aurora was particularly surprised, "We're eating here? It's very expensive, and this place has a strict membership system."
Even the White family wasn't high enough to get into this restaurant.
A meal here could cost more than some people make in a lifetime.
"Yeah, the food here is pretty good," John said casually, as if this highly sought-after restaurant was just an ordinary place, barely meeting his standards.
If it weren't so late and he was worried about Aurora being hungry, John wouldn't have brought her here.
Aurora grabbed John's arm, "Let's just go back. No need to be so extravagant. I'm not that hungry."
Aurora felt John was trying to show off and had reluctantly brought her here. John might not know that a meal here could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
"We're already here, Aurora. You don't need to save money for me," John said, holding Aurora's hand and smiling. "It's normal for a boyfriend to take his girlfriend out to eat."
"But it's too expensive here. Besides, we might not even get in."
Before she could finish, a familiar voice came from behind.
"Isn't that my sister? Sis, you're here to eat too? Coincidentally, Daniel and I are eating inside. Join us."
Aurora knew it was Emily without even turning around.
Aurora coldly glanced at Emily.
She really admired Emily's guts. After being beaten so badly last time, she still dared to come up to her.
Emily clung to Daniel's arm, provocatively showing off, "Sis, what a coincidence. Didn't expect to see you here. Who is this?"
Emily had already noticed John beside Aurora. When she saw John's appearance, she was very surprised. He was so handsome.
How could Aurora be so lucky to mess around with such a good-looking man?
Emily deliberately said, "Sis, your boyfriend? When did you start dating? I haven't heard about it."
"Yes, my boyfriend," Aurora admitted openly. She knew Emily was trying to stir up trouble between her and Daniel.
Aurora and Daniel had already broken up, so she wasn't afraid of Daniel knowing.
Aurora held onto John's arm and coldly retorted, "I don't need to inform you when I get a boyfriend."
Daniel's eyes flashed with anger as he looked at the two of them closely holding each other. "Aurora, stop fooling around."
To Daniel, this was Aurora deliberately finding a man, figuring out his whereabouts, and coming to provoke him.
After all, not many people had seen the real face of the Lewis family's head.
Aurora also saw that Daniel didn't believe her. She turned to John and said, "Bend down a bit."
John didn't know what Aurora wanted to do but was willing to cooperate and leaned down slightly.
Suddenly, Aurora hooked John's neck and kissed him.
John was a little surprised but thoroughly enjoyed it.
Daniel's face turned extremely grim. Emily was shocked to see the two kissing. She didn't expect Aurora to actually kiss him.
It was a brief kiss.
Aurora looked at Daniel, leaning in John's arms, smiling brightly, "We are truly in love."
