Chapter 220 There's Still a Plot Twist
The doctor glanced at Aurora and said, "Looks like the hit to the eye put pressure on the optic nerve, causing blindness. Given Mr. Lewis's current state, surgery isn't a good idea right now. Let's give it some time and then plan for it. No need to stress too much."
Aurora let out a sigh of relief, gripping John's hand tightly. "It's okay. It's just temporary."
John nodded.
Just then, Summer walked in. "Mommy, I heard Mr. Lewis is awake."
Summer had stepped out for a bit and just got back. Seeing John awake, he felt a bit more at ease and joked, "Mr. Lewis, you've had a rough year, huh?"
Sam and Tyler had been waiting outside. When the doctor was checking on John, they came in. Sam asked, "Can Mr. Lewis's eyes really be fixed?"
"That depends on the surgery," the doctor replied cautiously.
"Eyes?" Summer was puzzled. "What's wrong with Mr. Lewis's eyes?"
Aurora explained, "He can't see right now."
John gently patted Aurora's hand. "Don't worry, everyone. Trust the doctor."
Summer suggested, "How about we get Mr. Collins to come over?"
Sam and Tyler nodded. Sam said, "Mr. Collins is really good. With him, there shouldn't be any issues." Just then, his phone rang. He checked the caller ID and was a bit surprised. "Mr. Lewis, it's Mr. Collins calling."
Sam was pretty surprised. Gary usually contacted John or Todd. With John in trouble, Gary would typically reach out to Todd. Why was he calling Sam?
John said, "Answer it."
"Okay." Sam picked up the call.
On the other end, Gary asked, "Is John safe?"
"Mr. Lewis is in the hospital and just woke up. By the way, Mr. Collins, Mr. Lewis can't see. I'll hand the phone to Mr. Lewis so you can talk." Sam said, handing the phone to John.
John still didn't know about Helen's situation, as Todd and the others hadn't mentioned it.
Gary asked, "Do you need me to come over?"
"Not right now," John replied. "I'll head back to Silvercrest City in a couple of days."
John had already made up his mind to have Gary perform his eye surgery. He trusted Gary's skills implicitly, believing that with Gary, the chances of success would be much higher. Even though John hadn't shown much emotion after losing his sight, deep down he was anxious. The thought of being blind forever was something he couldn't accept.
"Alright." Gary then said after a pause, "We'll talk more when you get back."
Gary decided not to bring up Helen's situation over the phone. It could wait a day or two. Regarding Helen's claim that Summer and Loren were John's biological sons, he thought it best to discuss it in person.
Night fell.
At John's insistence, Aurora went back to rest with Lori and Ava, while Todd and the others stayed at the hospital.
Summer also went back with Aurora.
After taking a bath, Aurora changed into dry, comfy clothes while Lori ordered takeout. Lori's cooking was pretty bad, so takeout was a better option.
Summer knew Aurora was pregnant, so he had been very attentive, preparing food and drinks for her. "Mommy, how about I feed you?"
Aurora couldn't help but laugh. "Mommy's not that delicate, Summer. You sit down and eat too. Was the training on the island tough? You've lost weight."
Aurora felt quite heartbroken seeing that Summer had lost quite a bit of weight.
"Mommy, I didn't lose weight. Look, I even have muscles." To reassure Aurora, Summer lifted his shirt to show his abs. "I'll definitely be stronger than Mr. Lewis in the future."
"Of course, my son is the best." Aurora praised without hesitation.
Lori, beside them, was completely stunned by their conversation. "Aurora, you really sent such a young kid for training?"
Although Lori had also started training at a young age, she was still surprised that Aurora would send Summer for training. After all, the hardships of training were really not something an average person could endure.
Aurora sighed, feeling a bit helpless. "Summer insisted on going. I couldn't bear it either."
Summer's eyes were full of determination. "Only by enduring hardships can you truly grow."
Lori gave a thumbs up. "That's impressive. By the way, Summer, can I ask you something? What's the weakness of that jerk from Nightfall?"
"Jerk?"
Lori gritted her teeth. "Todd."
"Oh, Todd." Summer nodded and then asked with a smirk, "Do you have a crush on Todd?"
Lori almost choked on her food and then sneered, "I want to beat him up."
"What did Todd do to offend you?"
Just as Summer finished speaking, they heard the sound of a car engine turning off in the yard. They turned and saw quite a few people arriving in the yard.
It was Alexander.
Lori slammed the table and stood up. "They dare to come here when they haven't even fixed the hole they made in my wall. Ava, get the weapons." With that, she stormed out with Ava.
Summer said to Aurora, "Mommy, you stay inside."
But there was no way Aurora would actually stay inside.
Lori opened the door, ready for a fight, but paused when she saw the yard filled with gifts.
"What is this?" Lori looked at Ava and Summer. They were all puzzled.
Alexander stood in the yard holding various high-end nutritional products and smiled. "Hello, everyone. Don't misunderstand. I'm here to visit Aurora. These gifts are for her."
Lori said, "How could you possibly be so kind-hearted?"
Aurora also came out. She glanced at Alexander and the gifts in the yard, then said coldly, "Mr. Johnson, take your things and leave. I don't need them."
"Aurora, these are just a small gesture of goodwill," Alexander said with a big smile. "The previous incident was a misunderstanding. I've removed all the traps in the secret room. If there's anything else you're unhappy about, just let me know, and I'll make it right."
Aurora was puzzled. Why was Alexander doing this?
"John's eyes are injured. Can you give him a new pair? If you can, maybe I'll consider forgiving you," Aurora said this on purpose, not believing Alexander would actually give John a new pair of eyes.
Yet to her surprise, Alexander, after hearing her words, was silent for a moment and then said, "Alright." He then called out to his subordinate beside him. "Bring me a knife."
Aurora and Lori were dumbfounded.
Lori exclaimed, "Is he crazy?"
Alexander's subordinate really brought a knife. Alexander took it and looked at Aurora, showing no sign of backing down. Instead, he smiled kindly. "In this line of work, you have to pay your dues eventually. As your father, this is what I owe you and your mother. A pair of eyes to compensate you. Aurora, I hope you don't blame me."
"Father?" Everyone was shocked.
Alexander was about to act when Aurora quickly said, "Wait, Alexander, what's wrong with you? What nonsense are you talking about?"
First, he said he wanted to marry her, and now he was calling himself her father. Ridiculous!
Jennifer, who was sitting in the car, saw that Alexander was about to gouge out his eyes and quickly got out to stop him. "Dad, are you crazy? Even if you gouge out your eyes, Aurora won't acknowledge you."
"I don't expect her to acknowledge me. This is what I owe them."
Aurora was utterly confused. "What are you talking about?"
Jennifer took the knife from Alexander and said to Aurora, "You are my dad and Wendy's biological daughter."
Lori and Ava exchanged glances. This was too unbelievable.
Aurora sneered, "How is that possible? Mr. Johnson, stop putting on a show."
She had asked before, and Alexander had denied it. How could she suddenly be his biological daughter now?
Alexander said excitedly, "It's true. Richard said it himself. You were born in September, not December. Your mom lied to you and to me."
Aurora was confused, and Lori remarked, "Wendy is really something."
