Chapter 315: Ava Takes It All

Aurora also saw the documents on Allan's desk. She didn't know what they were, but it was clear that Allan had been staring at them before she arrived.

Allan looked up, poked the documents on the desk, and asked, "Mrs. Lewis, what did Ava and Lori do in the past?"

The question was so direct that Aurora knew they had finally been found out.

When Lori and Ava started working at the police station, Aurora had been worried that it was only a matter of time before they were discovered.

Aurora didn't answer but instead asked, "Do the higher-ups know?"

Allan shook his head. "I just got the documents this morning. I haven't handed them in yet."

"Why hasn't Mr. Jennings handed them over?"

Aurora's question left Allan momentarily speechless. He had been struggling with this issue before Aurora arrived.

Seeing through Allan's dilemma, Aurora spoke, "Mr. Jennings, you were the one who brought them in. Without you, they'd be living their own lives, carefree. Someone who has never been restrained willingly follows your orders. You should know what that means."

What Aurora wanted to convey was that Lori and Ava had passionate hearts. Even if they had done something wrong in the past, it wasn't unforgivable. There was no need to hold onto it too tightly.

The law should consider human feelings.

However, Allan interpreted her words differently.

Allan looked surprised and blurted out, "Could it be that the two sisters are in love with me?"

Aurora was stunned, completely not expecting Allan to think that way.

Allan replied seriously, "I'm really sorry. I didn't know about this. Actually, Lori and Ava are both very outstanding. If this dampens their enthusiasm or causes trouble, I would feel very guilty. But wearing this uniform, I have to live up to it. I can't bend the law for personal reasons."

Aurora gave a forced smile. "Mr. Jennings, you have quite a sense of humor."

This was completely beyond normal reasoning.

"Mrs. Lewis, Ava released Sandra. That's knowingly breaking the law. Even if I don't hand in these documents, just for this crime, Ava would have to serve three to five years." Allan frowned and uttered, "As for Lori, she came in with Ava. Their close relationship will make the higher-ups suspicious. Even if she gets out of this, it will be hard for her to stay in the police station."

"Mr. Jennings, are you only talking about the law and not about feelings?" Aurora was angry. "You were the one who brought them in. By your logic, you can't escape responsibility either."

Allan was silent. Aurora sternly spoke, "Mr. Jennings, if something really happens to them and you arrest them, I'll find someone to break them out."

"Nonsense, do you think this is a kindergarten? A place for games?"

"Fine, then let's talk facts. Are you sure Sandra was released by Ava?"

Allan frowned tightly. "Ninety percent sure."

Aurora pressed further, "Have Lori and Ava ever committed murder or arson?"

"The documents show they haven't."

"How have they performed recently? Have they made any contributions?"

"They've been outstanding, putting men to shame." Allan said truthfully.

"Then that's it, Mr. Jennings. Arresting them would be your loss," Aurora said. "Laws and regulations are not meant to punish but to reform, to help someone turn over a new leaf."

Allan looked at Aurora with a complex expression, deeply shaken because Aurora was right.

Punishment is not the goal; helping someone turn over a new leaf is the purpose.

Allan stood up and voiced, "Let's wait for the interrogation results. Mrs. Lewis, you should be prepared. I don't want anything to happen to them either."

Aurora knew that the key issue now was Ava releasing Sandra.

Allan not handing in the documents was already a great kindness.

Aurora wanted to see Ava and Lori. She waited for nearly two hours before finally seeing Lori.

"Lori, are you okay? Don't worry, I'm here. I won't let anything happen to you!" Allan asked, his voice filled with concern.

Lori shook her head. "I'm fine. It's Ava who's in trouble. That fool, she confessed."

Because Ava confessed and took all the blame, Lori was released quickly.

Lori was very regretful. She angrily punched the wall. "It's all my fault. If I hadn't been greedy for beauty, I wouldn't have dragged Ava into this mess. Todd was right; these people are cunning and ungrateful. We walked right into a trap."

Allan, who was passing by, overheard her words.

The phrase "greedy for beauty" particularly caught his attention.

Did Lori really have feelings for him?

Allan felt a mix of joy and guilt. He was responsible for bringing Lori and Ava into this mess.

"Lori, I'm sorry," Allan walked over.

Lori shot Allan a cold look. "You guys are really cunning, using a honey trap to catch us."

Allan was stunned.

This was a huge misunderstanding.

If he had known what the sisters did in the past, he wouldn't have dared to bring them in.

Lori was very agitated and had completely changed her view of Allan.

Lori uttered, her voice firm and unyielding."Mr. Jennings, if you don't release Ava, I won't let it go. If I, Lori, want to take someone from here, no one can stop me."

"Lori, don't do anything rash." Allan pleaded, rubbing his temples. These sisters, Lori and Aurora, were really a handful, with such straightforward and rough thinking.

Aurora asked, "Mr. Jennings, can we see Ava?"

"Not now. The process isn't complete. You can go back and wait. I'll notify you if there's any news." Allan replied, his voice steady but concealing the truth. Just ten minutes ago, Ava had been transferred, and even he didn't know where she was now.

The higher-ups acted so quickly, indicating that Ava had more to reveal, and it wasn't just about breaking someone out of jail.

Lori, exuding confidence, threatened, "If you dare to harm Ava, I'll tear this place apart. I'll give you three hours. If I don't see Ava, I'll do what I said."

With that, Lori strode out, her determination evident in every step.

Allan seriously warned Aurora, "Mrs. Lewis, you must persuade Lori. If things get out of hand, it won't do Ava any good."

"I'll try." Aurora knew that Lori going against them alone would be a losing battle.

Lori and Aurora left and got into the car. Aurora said, "Lori, don't be impulsive. I'll get John involved. There might be a turnaround, or we could catch Sandra and make up for it."

"Aurora, I won't act rashly. What I said earlier was just to scare them." Lori's expression turned serious, and the light in her eyes grew colder.

Not long after they left, Lori and Ava's past "deeds" were exposed online, causing a huge uproar.

For a while, the police station became a joke, heavily criticized.

Many netizens left angry comments, strongly demanding that Lori and Ava be arrested.

Public opinion was overwhelmingly against them, developing rapidly and catching everyone off guard.
