Chapter 382: Tracing Back to the Source

Since Sandra's goal was to take Aurora down with her, she couldn't have just burned a dummy.

John had previously glanced into the lounge from outside the fire; it was completely charred, but the dummy's position was still visible.

The dummy was lying on the bed, where Aurora had placed it before leaving.

In other words, when Sandra entered the room, she didn't bother to check or look around carefully. Given Sandra's hatred for Aurora, there's no way she would pour gasoline without even a glance.

After all, the dummy was lying there, not moving. How could she not notice something was off?

Allan also found the situation suspicious, "What do you think about this? Could it be that after Sandra went in, Lori quickly realized something was wrong and started banging on the door? Maybe Sandra panicked and just focused on pouring gasoline without checking?"

John had been pondering this matter ever since leaving the hotel.

"There's only one possibility: someone must have been knocked out or drugged to lie there motionless. I suspect someone told Sandra that Aurora was already unconscious."

John then shook his head: "But that doesn't make sense. Who told Sandra? No one had entered the lounge. Who could have knocked Aurora out?"

These guesses didn't add up.

What they could confirm now was that Sandra had an accomplice who had infiltrated the hotel.

John and Allan both fell silent, each lost in thought, trying to piece together the whole situation.

What seemed reasonable on the surface had many unreasonable aspects.

On the surface, it appeared that Sandra poured gasoline and intended to die with who she thought was Aurora.

After a long pause, Allan said, "I'll continue to follow up on this case and get you the truth as soon as possible."

As the officer in charge of the case, this was Allan's responsibility.

"Thank you," John replied, "No matter what, bringing Sandra to justice will bring some peace to my mother's spirit."

John stayed at the fire scene for a while longer, then left the rest to Allan and departed.

After dropping off Aurora, Sam returned to pick up John.

John got into the car and asked, "How's the investigation I asked you to do?"

"Mr. Lewis, I looked into it. Today, three cars entered without being checked: Alexander's, Dean's, and Kevin's."

Sam continued, "Alexander, Dean, and Kevin—these three cars weren't checked. Mr. Lewis, these are all your fathers-in-law. Who would dare to check them? Besides, they didn't know the wedding was fake. If they were checked, there would be no reason for it."

John suddenly realized that having many fathers-in-law could be quite a hindrance.

With a stern face, John spoke, "In the future, treat everyone equally in such situations."

"Yes, Mr. Lewis."

Sam glanced at John in the rearview mirror and asked, "Mr. Lewis, who do you think could've brought in the gasoline? These three are all Mrs. Lewis's fathers. They wouldn't cause trouble at their own daughter's wedding, right?"

"Better to wrongly accuse a thousand than to let one slip through," John uttered, furrowing his brow. "Aurora mentioned Lori smelled gasoline earlier, which means it might have leaked out. You need to inspect these three cars personally and do it secretly. Don't let the fathers know."

Whether biological, godfather, or adoptive, they were all difficult to deal with.

John said the last part with a tone of helplessness.

Investigating the accomplice and suspecting the fathers-in-law could cause some hard feelings if word got out.

Sam smiled faintly, "Yes, Mr. Lewis."

John shot a cold glance at Sam, who immediately stopped smiling.

The car headed towards The Lewis Villa.

Lloyd was also quite frightened by the fire. After returning to The Lewis Villa, Aurora had him sent to his room with Summer and Loren to keep him company.

Alexander didn't look too well. After staying at The Lewis Villa for a while, he left with Samuel and Wendy, not staying the night.

Aurora was fine, and Sandra was burned so badly that there was no way she could have survived.

Alexander had lost another daughter, so he was understandably in a heavy mood.

Lori, Ava, and Todd hadn't left yet; the matter wasn't over.

Dean and Jack were also at The Lewis Villa.

Jack asked, "Aurora, if you weren't in the lounge, then who was?"

Everyone had been wondering about this, but they hadn't had a chance to ask on the way.

"It was a dummy," Aurora explained. "John and I set it up. Before Sandra entered the lounge, I left through a hidden door in the room. John specifically chose this hotel and had all the rooms on the floor connected."

Only Aurora and John knew about this.

Lori spoke, "Aurora, you and your husband are too much. You kept us in the dark and scared us half to death. I almost rushed into the fire to save you."

Aurora felt a bit guilty and shifted the blame to John: "John said the fewer people who knew, the safer it would be. It's not my fault."

The way she shirked responsibility was truly... heartless.

Everyone felt sympathy for John for marrying such a wife.

Lori, being a bit straightforward, didn't want to think about such complicated matters. Besides, she couldn't figure it out even if she tried.

"Sandra's gone now, so everything should be peaceful," Lori spoke, looking at Ava. "Ava, you're free now."

With Sandra out of the picture and Ava having helped catch Sandra, she had redeemed herself, and the authorities wouldn't be watching her anymore.

Dean breathed a sigh of relief, "Aurora, today's events nearly scared me to death. A perfectly good wedding was ruined by the fire. When I saw you lying in the fire, I really thought it was you."

Aurora smiled, "I'm not that easy to kill."

The sound of a car engine turning off came from outside the yard; John had returned.

Jack glanced outside and said to Aurora, "Aurora, before everything went down, I was going to find you. Someone told me you were looking for John. So, I went to get John. If I had known, I would have gone straight to you."

"I didn't ask anyone to get you to find John," Aurora frowned. "Jack, who told you that?"

John stepped into the hall just in time to hear Jack's words.

Jack replied, "I don't recognize him. He was wearing hotel staff clothes, so I thought he was one of John's guys."

All the hotel staff were actually Nightfall people in disguise.

Only a few people knew about this, and Jack was one of them.

Aurora uttered, "At that time, I wanted to contact John, but my earpiece was dead, so I used the hidden door to find him. The person you mentioned might be Sandra's accomplice."

Aurora and John had already figured that Sandra must have had an accomplice, and now she was even more convinced.

Jack shook his head and scratched it apologetically, "I don't know. The guy was tall and thin, but I didn't see his face clearly. Aurora, you know I'm terrible with faces. I can't remember someone after just one look."
