Chapter 37 Emily's Malicious Schemes

If Aurora became Kevin's adopted daughter, and later marries John, wouldn't John also have to call Kevin "godfather"?

What a cunning fox Kevin was!

John's deep eyes narrowed slightly.

He didn't expect Kevin to pull such a move.

Aurora was puzzled and smiled. "If Kevin really wants to adopt me, isn't it a good deal for me? I have nothing to lose."

She had no background or power, so it was a win for her no matter what.

Todd glanced at John. Aurora didn't know she had a big backer by her side. Kevin adopting Aurora was clearly aimed at John.

John looked at Aurora, his face showing no emotion, and asked in a calm tone, "Did you agree?"

"Yes, I agreed. The banquet is scheduled for Saturday night," Aurora said, "And you know what, Kevin said he wanted to adopt me in front of my dad and the others. Their reactions were priceless. I felt quite vindicated, so I agreed."

Todd curled his lips. "This Kevin really knows how to manipulate people."

Aurora looked at Todd and asked, "Mr. Smith, you don't seem to like Kevin very much. Is there a conflict?"

There wasn't a conflict; Todd just didn't like how Kevin, that cunningfox, took advantage of John.

Aurora and John would both have to call Kevin "godfather," which would put him a step lower as well.

"No," Todd shook his head.

Aurora then looked at John for his opinion. "If you don't want me to, I can refuse. It's not public yet anyway."

Aurora wasn't very willing either; she was just going with the flow, and it didn't harm her.

John pondered for a moment and nodded. "It's fine."

Todd's eyes widened. "Boss."

How could they let Kevin succeed?

John's thin lips curved slightly. "Having the protection of the Robinson family as an adopted daughter is beneficial for you."

Dean had severed his father-daughter relationship with Aurora. Now, Aurora had no background. Until John completely cleaned up the Lewis family, having the Robinson family protect her wasn't a bad thing.

What John could think of, Todd could naturally think of, too, so he said no more.

Kevin acted quickly. As soon as he and Aurora agreed on the details, he immediately posted the news online, creating a buzz about adopting a daughter and announcing the banquet's time and place.

Kevin deliberately didn't mention Aurora, leaving it as suspense.

The news of the Robinson family adopting a daughter caused a stir online, with everyone speculating who the lucky person was that caught Kevin's eye.

The Robinson family was one of the four major families in Silvercrest City, with only one son, Leo, for generations.

Now, suddenly adopting a daughter and holding such a grand banquet showed how much they valued her, naturally arousing public curiosity.

Dean saw the news online and was filled with regret, angrily slamming his fork on the table, startling Nicole.

"I just severed ties with Aurora, and Kevin immediately adopts her as his daughter. How do you think people in the circle will see me? Isn't this a slap in my face?"

"The Robinson family is serious?" Nicole was also surprised. "What's so good about Aurora that caught Kevin's eye?"

"What's the use of saying this now? We've lost a great opportunity to connect with the Robinson family," Dean got angrier the more he thought about it. "If I had known Aurora had this connection with the Robinson family, I wouldn't have severed ties with her."

Nicole comforted him, "Dean, why are you so angry? Besides, we still have Emily. Emily went to see Percy today, and the Harris family has agreed to invest. With the Harris family's support, why are you still worried about offending the Robinson family?"

Nicole's words somewhat comforted Dean, but the thought of Aurora becoming Kevin's adopted daughter made him lose his appetite.

In the Taylor Villa, Emily, who saw the news, was filled with jealousy and hatred, almost going crazy.

How could Aurora be so lucky?

Emily was unwilling and angrily threw things around the room.

Hearing the commotion, Daniel walked in, frowning in displeasure. "What are you throwing a tantrum about again? If you disturb Mom and Dad, how will you explain it?"

Hearing this, Emily restrained herself a bit, but seeing Daniel taking his blanket to the study, her temper flared up again.

"What are you doing, Daniel? We're married. If you sleep in the study every day, how embarrassing is that for me?"

"Then keep your mouth shut," Daniel had no patience, taking his blanket and walking out.

"Ah!"

Emily stomped her foot in anger, going crazy.

'Aurora, this is all your fault.' Emily thought.

She wouldn't let Aurora have it easy.

A malicious plan flashed in Emily's eyes.

'Want to be the Robinson family's adopted daughter and steal the spotlight? Fine, I'll ruin you in front of everyone.'

In the evening, Aurora sat on the bed, bored, flipping through a magazine, occasionally glancing at the bathroom, and feeling very nervous.

She didn't know why she had let John stay.

The Robinson family matter was resolved, and John didn't need to stay here anymore.

"John, are you done yet?"

As soon as she finished speaking, John walked out in a loose bathrobe, his body still steaming, with broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and clearly defined muscles exuding a sense of power. A drop of water rolled down his chest, disappearing below, making him irresistibly tempting.

Aurora subconsciously swallowed, blushing, and looked away. "I need to use the bathroom."

Saying that, Aurora got up from the bed, trying to slip into the bathroom, but John caught her and pulled her into his arms.

A deep, husky voice whispered in her ear. "I'm in a hurry, too."

Last night, John had taken several cold showers to cool off; there was no way he was letting Aurora off today.

Realizing what John intended, Aurora's heart began to race, "Um..."

"Aurora, I want you."

Those words made Aurora completely surrender.

But just then, she felt a sudden warmth below.

"Oh no, my period just started." Aurora blushed, wriggling out from under John and running to the bathroom.

Indeed, her period had arrived at the perfect time.

When Aurora came out after cleaning up, she saw John lying on the bed with a look of grievance.

Aurora couldn't help but laugh. "Go to sleep."

John sighed, pulling Aurora into his arms. "At least let me hold you."

Aurora had no choice but to comply.

Suddenly, Aurora smelled a hint of blood. She opened her eyes and saw a patch of red on John's bathrobe.

"What happened? Let me see."

Aurora remembered that John had been wearing the bathrobe to hide an injury on his arm.

"Just a scratch," John said nonchalantly, "Go to sleep. It's nothing serious."

The wound was wrapped in gauze, and the blood was seeping through. How could it be nothing?

Aurora looked at John suspiciously. What kind of scratch could be this severe?

She suddenly remembered that Mr. Lewis, the head of the Lewis family, also had an injured arm, and it was the same right arm.

The wound was bandaged, so Aurora couldn't tell if it was a scratch or a knife wound.

John smiled and affectionately ruffled Aurora's hair. "Go to sleep."

Aurora didn't ask any more questions, but she started to have doubts in her mind.

But she couldn't believe it.

John was just an ordinary delivery guy; he couldn't possibly be the powerful head of the Lewis family.

That night, Aurora slept uneasily.

John glanced at his wound, his eyes turning dim.

With Aurora's intelligence, it wouldn't be long before she figured it out.

The next day, John drove Aurora to work, and everything seemed as usual, with nothing out of the ordinary.

As Aurora walked into the company, she immediately sensed something was off.

Her colleagues gave her strange looks, as if they were gossiping about her.

Aurora frowned and walked to her desk. Donna came over with a stern face and asked, "Aurora, how can you just sit there? Haven't you checked the company email?"

Aurora was puzzled and smiled. "What's going on? Why so serious? Did something happen? Does it have to do with me again?"

Donna was anxious for Aurora. "You should go check it out. Your ride in a luxury car was exposed, and now everyone in the company is talking about you being a mistress, messing around with a middle-aged man, and being a homewrecker."

Aurora quickly went online to check. Someone had taken a picture of her getting into Kevin's car yesterday.

A luxury car, a middle-aged man, a young and beautiful woman—these three elements together were enough to make people think the worst.

Donna asked, "Aurora, do you really know that man?"

"Yes, I do."

Not only did she know him, but she would soon be calling him godfather.

"Everyone, did you hear that? Aurora admitted it herself." Rose's voice came from behind, rallying the colleagues around, and said, "She always acts so pure, but who knew she was a mistress behind the scenes. You really can't judge a book by its cover."

The colleagues started gossiping, looking at Aurora with disdain.

"Who would've thought? But with a pretty face like hers, it's no wonder. If it were us, we couldn't be chosen as the mistresses of those rich men."

"With your looks, not even plastic surgery could save you. You'd need to be reborn."

"So what if I'm ugly? At least I'm not like some people, with no dignity, ruining other people's families."

"Trying to take shortcuts at such a young age. If the man's wife finds out, I wonder if she can still stay in Silvercrest City."

"That middle-aged man could be Aurora's father. It's disgusting."

"Who cares about disgusting when there's money involved."

Facing her colleagues' ridicule and accusations, Aurora remained unfazed, showing no anger. Instead, she sat down leisurely, drinking water, crossing her legs, and listening to their gossip.

This scene was witnessed by Lucas, who had just walked in. He didn't approach, but seeing Aurora so calm, he became interested and decided to watch how she would handle it.

Rose was surprised that Aurora wasn't angry and said hatefully, "Aurora, do you have no shame? How can you be so indifferent? We're talking about you."

Aurora smiled, feigning confusion. "Oh? You're talking about me? Sorry, I don't have a habit of taking things personally. I thought you were talking about yourself."

Aurora wasn't stupid. Seeing the photos online, she had already guessed who was behind it.

Rose would stop at nothing to make her quit the assessment.

Rose's face twisted in anger, her voice rising. "Aurora, you were caught getting into a luxury car. The evidence is clear. You're a homewrecker."

Aurora's eyes turned cold. Sheglared at Rose and said, "I saw you coming out of the bathroom earlier. With such a foul mouth, the evidence is clear. You must have been eating shit in there."

Some colleagues couldn't help but laugh, and even Lucas almost burst out laughing.

Aurora thought, 'Taking things out of context? Who couldn't do that?'

Rose was livid, her voice sharp. "Aurora, you're twisting the facts. Don't think you can clear your name as a mistress this way."

Aurora nonchalantly swirled the water in her cup. "I, Aurora, am innocent. Why would I need to clear my name? But the person who sent that email better watch her back. If I find out who it is, defamation could land her in jail for three to five years."

This was not just a warning to the person who sent the email but to everyone present. Anyone spreading false rumors would face defamation charges.

Rose sneered. "Stop trying to scare us, Aurora. Then tell us, who is that middle-aged man to you? I don't believe a poor woman like you is some rich heiress or a hidden trust fund kid."
