Chapter 227 Aurora realized that the person from back then was John.

John cleared his throat and, with Gray's help, hobbled over to Aurora with a cane. "Aurora, these flowers are for you. I'm here to pick you up..."

Before he could finish, Aurora cut him off, "You came just in time. Jack's been arrested by the police. You know people in the department, right? Can you help me get in touch with them?"

Aurora was worried she wouldn't be able to see Jack if she went alone.

"Jack got arrested?" John's face darkened. "Alright, I'll go to the station with you."

With John around, Aurora felt a lot more at ease. She decided that Summer and Loren didn't need to go for now, so Aurora, John, and Gary headed to the police station together.

At the station, John talked to the chief to find out why Jack was arrested.

Turned out, the warehouse Jack went to was packed with illegal goods, and there was a ton of it. The cops showed up after getting an anonymous tip.

Jack was checking out the goods when the police arrived, and he hadn't even had a chance to open them. He got caught red-handed, and when questioned, he admitted the goods were his. It was a done deal.

In recent years, the authorities had been cracking down hard, and Jack's actions were a blatant violation. The higher-ups were aware of the case and were keeping a close eye on it.

In other words, even John couldn't bail him out.

No matter how powerful the connections, once the higher-ups were involved, it was almost impossible to do anything. Overturning the case was nearly impossible.

Hearing this, Aurora felt totally deflated. "Chief, I want to see Jack."

The chief looked at John, and after thinking for a moment, he said, "Alright, I've owed the Lewis family a few favors. But you only get half an hour."

"Okay, no problem." Aurora thanked him. "Thank you, Chief."

John added, "Thanks."

The chief gave orders to arrange a meeting between Aurora and Jack.

When Aurora saw Jack, he anxiously said, "Aurora, those goods aren't mine. I don't know what's going on. I've been framed. Please save me."

Jack was completely dumbfounded when he found out what the goods were and still couldn't figure out what was happening.

"Calm down first. Just answer my questions." Aurora's expression was serious. "Why did you go to the warehouse?"

"Richard asked me to go. He said I happened to be in Silvercrest City and asked me to check it out."

Indeed, it was Richard.

Aurora wasn't surprised. She asked methodically, "Did you know what was in the warehouse beforehand?"

"I didn't know. I thought it was just some tea leaves. How could I have known it was illegal stuff?" Jack said, holding his head in frustration. "Aurora, I should have discussed it with you first. I shouldn't have decided on my own. I thought it was just a quick look and nothing would happen. Aurora, how could Wolfpack have those goods? Is it The Shadow of Darkness organization or someone else framing us? Christopher or Robert."

Aurora didn't share her suspicions with Jack but asked, "Were there any other people in the warehouse? What about the person in charge? The workers?"

"They all insisted the goods were mine. I couldn't explain it at all," Jack said anxiously and fearfully.

John, standing nearby, placed a hand on Aurora's shoulder and said, "Looks like this was a well-planned setup. Those workers might genuinely believe the goods were Jack's."

Aurora quickly realized. "So this setup wasn't made overnight. It was a long-laid trap, waiting for Jack."

Jack looked puzzled. "I haven't offended anyone. Isn't that warehouse owned by Wolfpack? Richard asked me to go. Aurora, Richard wouldn't harm me, right?"

"Jack, do you trust me?" Aurora asked, locking eyes with him.

"I trust you. Even if I don't trust myself in this life, I trust you," Jack said firmly.

"Good. Remember, you didn't do this. No matter what, stick to your story. I'll get you out."

Jack looked at Aurora and nodded.

Half an hour was up.

Aurora could only watch as Jack was taken away.

John turned to the chief. "No matter what happens with the case, keep us in the loop."

"Of course. Keeping the family informed is part of the protocol," the chief nodded. "But saving him will be tough. New evidence just came in. The warehouse owner is indeed Jack."

Aurora was puzzled. "That's impossible. How could that warehouse belong to Jack?"

"The evidence shows the warehouse was sold to Jack a month ago."

A month ago, that was when Jack was with Wolfpack. Richard really went to great lengths. But what was his motive? If he really wanted to harm Jack, he had plenty of opportunities and means. Why wait until now?

They left the police station and got into the car. Aurora said to John, "I'll call Richard."

John reminded her, "Aurora, don't let him suspect anything."

"I know." Aurora nodded while dialing Richard's number. After adjusting her emotions, she said anxiously, "Richard, Jack's been arrested. He said you asked him to check the warehouse, and all the goods there are problematic. What's going on?"

"What warehouse?" Richard's tone showed he was confused. "Aurora, I didn't call Jack. What's this about Jack being arrested?"

Not admitting it?

If she hadn't seen those letters, Aurora might have hesitated and wondered whether to believe Richard. Now, she didn't believe a word from him.

Aurora feigned surprise. "Richard, you don't know? Then what's going on? I'm so confused right now. I don't know what to do."

"Aurora, don't worry. I'll come to Silvercrest City right away."

"Okay, Richard, please hurry."

After hanging up, Aurora's expression immediately turned serious. "Richard might arrive in Silvercrest City this afternoon."

John said, "Keep Richard occupied. I'll look for evidence to clear Jack's name."

"Alright."

They exchanged a determined look. John knew time was of the essence. He had already spoken to the police to ensure that Jack wouldn't suffer while inside. Now, all they could do was hope to expose Richard's true nature as soon as possible.Aurora suddenly remembered something. "How do you plan to deal with Alexander?" She knew Alexander probably wasn't clean either. John could make sure Alexander stayed locked up.

John smiled coldly. "I'll handle him slowly."

Aurora pursed her lips and said, "John, I have some bad news."

John looked at her. "I have some good news. How about you go first?"

"You go first," Aurora said. "Hearing some good news might help me feel better."

Aurora didn't expect John to really have good news. The situation with Jack and Richard had her feeling chaotic, and she doubted any good news could calm her down.

John reached out to hold Aurora's hand. "Prepare yourself. Don't be too shocked by the good news."

"So mysterious. What's the good news? Did you regain your sight? Or did some old flame give you a child, making you a dad already?"

"Aurora, you guessed right." John said, surprised that Aurora had guessed it.

"What do you mean, guessed right?" Aurora reacted strongly. "John, did you really have an illegitimate child?"

"The children are real, but they're not illegitimate. They're twin sons born to the woman I spent a night with five years ago."

"Twin sons?" Aurora felt her heart sink to the bottom. "John, if they're not illegitimate, does that mean you want to marry their mother? What about..."

She wanted to ask "What about me and the babies," but she didn't say it.

John had previously confessed about a woman. If that woman came with children, what could she do? First come, first served. The woman had already given birth to his children. Besides, John's intention was clearly to marry the children's mother.

She could only step aside.
