Chapter 341: She Felt So Miserable for the First Time

A single "Mom" left both the lady and Luis in shock.

The whole world seemed to freeze in that moment. Aurora's eyes grew redder, and she felt a tingling sensation in her nose as emotion welled up inside her.

The lady in front of Aurora looked almost identical to the mother in her memory, except for the traces of time.

Wendy was so surprised that she dropped what she was holding and asked in disbelief, "Are you... Aurora?"

After over a decade, Aurora had grown into a young woman, her appearance changing significantly. Wendy couldn't be sure at first.

"Yes, it's me, I'm Aurora." Aurora walked down the steps, her face already covered in tears. She couldn't believe that her mother, who had been dead for over a decade, was standing alive in front of her.

Aurora's hands trembled as she reached out to touch Wendy, afraid it might be an illusion.

Wendy's grave was clearly in Silvercrest City Cemetery, guarded by Alexander. She had seen Wendy pass away with her own eyes.

"Aurora, my daughter." Wendy, also in tears, emotionally embraced Aurora. "Aurora, it's Mom. My dear daughter, Aurora."

"Mom." Aurora hugged Wendy, and the mother and daughter cried together.

After they both calmed down, in the bedroom, Aurora still couldn't believe it as she looked at Wendy. "Mom, what is going on? Why are you... still alive?"

This was the kind of absurd plot she only see in movies, yet it was happening in real life. No, even movies wouldn't dare to go this far.

Her mother had faked her death, and for over a decade, she had never returned to Silvercrest City to see her.

Aurora couldn't understand this at all.

She was Wendy's only daughter. Her mother was so loving towards Luis, who wasn't even her biological child. Why was she so cold towards her own daughter?

The mother in her memory wasn't like this.

Wendy's eyes showed a gentle and serene look that only comes with the passage of time. "Aurora, back then, I thought I was going to die. It was Samuel who saved me. When I woke up, I was already in this small town."

"Samuel Foster?"

"You know him?"

"I heard Alexander mention him," Aurora replied. "But Alexander said that Jessica and Samuel, they all died."

One "resurrection" was already unbelievable, but now they were all alive. It felt like a joke, something beyond belief.

Wendy was puzzled. "Alexander?"

Aurora spoke directly, "Mom, I'm Alexander's daughter, right?"

Wendy was shocked. "You know?"

"I know, but there are still things I don't understand," Aurora had many questions. "Mom, can you tell me everything? Why didn't you come back to find me?"

Wendy's eyes were filled with guilt and self-blame. As a mother, she felt she owed Aurora.

Wendy lowered her head, and after a long time, she began to explained slowly, "It all started the day I was adopted by the Lee family..."

It was indeed a long story.

Wendy and Jessica were both adopted by the Lee family. Later, they met Samuel and Alexander, who were orphans, and they all grew up together.

Jessica had feelings for Samuel, Wendy and Alexander admired each other but never expressed it, and Samuel was infatuated with Wendy.

Wendy and Alexander had a falling out, and she was forced to take abortion pills by Richard, barely saving one child. She went to Silvercrest City under a different name and met Dean.

Wendy thought she could live a peaceful life until she received a letter from Jessica. That was the first time she left Silvercrest City after moving there.

After Jessica died, she entrusted Jack to Wendy, and not long after, Wendy's own health deteriorated.

Samuel found her, and the doctor misdiagnosed her condition. Wendy wasn't dead. Samuel faked her death and took her away. Once again, they lived under different names in this small town.

The hotel where Aurora was staying was run by Wendy and Samuel, now managed by Luis.

Samuel wasn't dead. After Jessica's death, he spread false news about his own death. Given his low profile, people eventually believed he was dead.

After hearing all this, Aurora still had the same question, "Why didn't you come back to find me? All these years? Why didn't you come back to see your daughter?"

This was what Aurora cared about the most.

Wendy was speechless because no excuse could justify it.

Aurora stared at her, demanding an answer.

The stubbornness in her eyes was something Wendy was very familiar with. She had been like that when she was young.

"Aurora, I'm sorry. I thought you had grown up, and Dean promised me he would take good care of you. I wanted to live for myself for once. I wanted to..." Wendy's voice trailed off and then asked, "Have you been well all these years?"

Aurora understood. She wasn't her mother's whole world. She couldn't be the obstacle in her mother's life.

At that moment, Aurora had never felt so sad.

Her mother was alive but had the heart to not see her for eighteen years.

Aurora lowered her eyes and forced a smile. She didn't tell her mother that she hadn't been well all those years. Instead, she spoke, "I got married. My husband loves me very much. We have four sons, and they are all very cute. My mother-in-law treats me like her own daughter. She is planning our wedding ceremony for June 6th."

Aurora wanted to ask, "Mom, will you come?" but swallowed the words.

She didn't invite her. Instead, she stood up and uttered, "Alexander knows you died. He left The Shadow of Darkness organization and guards your grave every day. I gave him the redwood box you left behind."

"Alexander, he..." Wendy was too shocked to speak, tears welling up in her eyes. "I always thought he..."

Wendy had always thought Alexander loved someone else.

Aurora's expression was indifferent as she opened the door, "I'm leaving."

"Aurora!" Wendy quickly stood up and called out. She knew Aurora was resentful. "Aurora, can you forgive me?"

Aurora, with her back to Wendy, forced a smile. "In my memory, Mom was gentle and loved me."

With that, Aurora walked out.

Luis stood at the door, having heard their conversation. After Aurora left, she looked at Wendy in confusion. "Wendy, why didn't you keep her here?"

"She's got my temperament. She's resentful now," Wendy sighed. "I owe her too much."

Aurora walked down the street. This street was much bleaker than Silvercrest City, dark and without streetlights.

Aurora was immersed in the fact that her mother wasn't dead. She was indeed resentful. Her mother was so kind and loving to Luis but had the heart to not see her for eighteen years. She wanted to ask why she didn't take her along back then.

Aurora wandered aimlessly. After a while, she realized she didn't know the way.

This was really reckless.

She had thought this was the well-policed Silvercrest City, completely forgetting how chaotic this small town was.

Just as Aurora was about to turn back, a hand suddenly grabbed her shoulder, tightly gripping it.
