Chapter 300 Super Protecting One's Own
When Aurora went out to find John, John had already gone to see Sandra.
Aurora didn't follow him and waited outside the hall instead.
After Chris bailed Emily out, they passed Aurora. Then Chris gave Emily a look, signaling her to get in the car first.
Emily, having just suffered a setback, obediently complied and waited in the car.
Chris wheeled himself closer to Aurora. "Mrs. Lewis."
Every time Chris called her that, it made him uncomfortable.
"Mr. Harris." Aurora nodded politely upon seeing Chris, as a form of greeting.
Chris looked at the sky and said, "It looks like it's going to rain tonight."
Aurora glanced at the sky as well. "How could it be? The sun is shining brightly; it certainly won't rain tonight."
Chris held his injured leg and said, "Every time it rains, my leg aches. It's never been wrong."
Aurora's gaze fell on Chris's injured leg, and she realized that it was John who had someone cripple it.
Even if they agreed to release Emily, repaying the debt for Chris taking the knife was one thing, but the debt for his broken leg was another matter entirely.Chris's broken leg ruined Chris's life completely.
Chris's eyes dimmed, and Aurora felt a pang of guilt. "I know a good doctor. I'll introduce you to him someday. He might be able to help with your leg..."
Chris interrupted Aurora. "Mrs. Lewis, can you tell me who exactly crippled my leg?"
Chris already knew who it was; he just wanted to see if Aurora would tell the truth.
Aurora's heart tightened, feeling that Chris knew something.
Chris's leg injury was partly her fault; Nicole and Percy shared some responsibility as well. However, the true perpetrator was John.
In terms of emotion, etiquette, and law, it was all indefensible.
Chris said in a huff, "Mrs. Lewis, a broken leg has ruined my life. Before my leg was crippled, I hadn't offended anyone, not even you. I even took a knife for you. Now I just want the truth. Who was it? Who crippled my leg?"
Every word Chris said was filled with deep hatred and intense emotion. Aurora was sure that if she told him, Chris would immediately go after John for revenge.
Aurora hesitated, "Mr. Harris, I..."
"Aurora." John came out from inside, interrupting Aurora. He walked up to her. "Aurora, it's done. Let's go back. Trey and Jax must be hungry."
Aurora asked, "What about Sandra?"
"Follow the procedure. Handle it as it should be handled." John was impartial. Even if he were biased, it would be towards his own son. Sandra was just an outsider. Since she dared to hurt his son; she definitely won't let her go.
Aurora wanted to say more, but John looked at Chris and said, "Mr. Harris, we're leaving now. You should head back early too."
This puzzled Aurora. Why did John say that to Chris?
Chris suppressed his anger and watched John and Aurora leave from his wheelchair.
After they left, Chris got in the car. Emily asked, "Chris, why didn't you just say it directly?"
"Shut up," Chris glared at Emily. "Can you behave yourself? Haven't you embarrassed us enough?"
Emily defended herself, "This time, it really wasn't my fault. It was Daniel and Amelia causing trouble..."
"If you didn't cling to Daniel, would you have been blocked in the hotel?" Chris felt a headache coming on. "There are so many men in the world. Why do you have to go after Daniel? Daniel is just a nobody, while you're the Harris family heiress. Before you joined the Harris family, it was your business if you embarrassed yourself. Now that you have the Harris name, remember not to disgrace us."
Emily muttered, "Aurora said the same thing to me."
Chris asked, "What did she say?"
Emily replied, "Daniel is nothing."
Even their tone was the same, indicating that they were truly disappointed in her.
"Emily, I'm warning you. Show the demeanor of the Harris family heiress. Now that you have the Harris name, you're the same as Karen. If you dare to act disgracefully again, I'll be the first to kick you out of the Harris family." Chris's words were harsh. "Don't let Daniel affect your future."
Chris's words were like a wake-up call to Emily.
Emily was stunned. "Chris, you... Am I really the same as Karen?"
She had always thought Chris looked down on her as was an illegitimate child. Chris never allowed her to call him by his name and had humiliated her several times in public.
But she also noticed that since she returned to the Harris family, Chris had never humiliated her in front of others.
Because she had the Harris name now, they shared honor and disgrace together.
Chris said, "As long as you give up Daniel and don't disgrace the Harris family, you'll have everything Karen has."
Emily was excited and thrilled. Did she actually benefit from this misfortune?
"Chris, I promise you, I will never see Daniel again. I've figured it out, Daniel is nothing." Emily said excitedly. "Chris, how about I help you pursue Aurora? I'm really good at pursuing people."
Chris sneered. "You've been chasing Daniel for over ten years, using every trick in the book, but you still haven't gotten him."
Emily felt deeply hurt.
Emily said, "This is different. Aurora is loyal and righteous, while Daniel is heartless."
Although Emily was jealous of Aurora and they didn't get along well, Emily knew that Aurora valued loyalty. As long as she didn't cross Aurora's bottom line, she could hover on the edge of disaster countless times. Emily had been fighting with Aurora for so many years and had already summed up her experience.
Chris glanced at Emily. "You finally said something sensible."
Emily wanted to retort but held back because of Chris's earlier words.
Emily said, "Chris, I really hope you can marry Aurora."
Chris said, "I believe that if I marry her, you two will continue to fight for a lifetime. With your nature, as soon as you see Aurora, you'll still pick a fight."
Emily admitted that he knew her too well.
Emily asked, "Chris, why didn't you just make it clear earlier? Aurora clearly knows who it is. She's covering for John."
"This is a matter between men. Women should stay out of it," Chris said. "I'll take you back first. I have something to do later."
"What is it?" Emily asked casually.
Chris recalled John's words before he left and fell into deep thought.
John interrupted Aurora earlier because he sought to avoid making things difficult for her and didn't wish to entangle her in the affair.
And there was another meaning to his words: they needed to meet at 8 PM under Twin Rivers Bridge.
Chris said, "John asked to meet tonight."
Emily asked, "When did he ask? How come I didn't know?"
"Besides Daniel, what else do you know?" Chris didn't want to waste words and told the driver, "Drive, back to the Harris family."
