Chapter 363: Following Wade
Aurora's heart raced, and her palms and feet were sweating. Sitting next to her was Wade, the accomplice in Helen's murder and the one who helped steal her child.
Aurora tried her best to control herself, straining to hear the voice on the other end of the phone.
It was a woman's voice, the same voice she had heard through the earpiece when she was connected with Lori.
The voice was hoarse, and at first, Aurora wasn't sure it was Sandra, as the voice had completely changed.
Until Wade shouted into the phone, "Sandra, leave quickly, and don't cause any more trouble."
Aurora's heart pounded. It was Sandra; she really had taken Aurora's child.
Just then, she heard a child's cry on the other end of the phone. It was Jax.
Aurora's heart twisted. Her child was in Sandra's hands, and hearing the cry made her heart leap into her throat.
She kept telling herself to stay calm, for Jax's sake, she had to keep it together.
After mentally bracing herself, Aurora's emotions slowly calmed down.
Wade turned his head and glanced at Aurora on the bed. She closed her eyes and pretended to sleep, and he didn't notice anything unusual.
"I don't have time for your lectures. Now that John and Aurora have turned against each other, how could I miss such a spectacular show?" Sandra's smug laughter came through the phone. "I want to personally find Aurora and bring her to John. It will be so much fun."
"Just don't get burned," Wade warned. "I need to talk to you in person. Can we meet?"
"Why can't you say it over the phone?" Sandra clearly didn't want to meet.
"I'll be at your place in an hour."
With that, Wade hung up the phone.
Aurora was nervous. Wade was going to see Sandra. She finally had this chance.
Wade glanced at Aurora on the bed and reached out to touch her face.
Aurora pretended to have a nightmare, suddenly contorting her face and talking in her sleep, "John, please, don't kill me. I swear, I didn't kill Helen. You have to believe me, please!"
Wade heard the sleep talk and sneered, his hand hovering in mid-air. He muttered to himself, "I really want to see if John truly hates you to the core, and let you see if the man you chose is worth it."
Aurora seemed trapped in a nightmare, unable to wake up. Wade called her a few times, and Aurora pretended to struggle awake from the nightmare, shouting, "Believe me!"
Aurora sat on the bed, dazed. Wade gently asked, "Aurora, did you have a nightmare?"
"Yes," Aurora nodded blankly, painfully spoking, "I dreamed that John wanted to kill me. Wade, take me to see John. I need to explain everything to him."
"Aurora, John is very angry right now. If you show up out of the blue, it might be bad for you," Wade replied. "How about I go back and test John's mood first, then decide if you should see him?"
"Alright," Aurora looked helpless, letting Wade take control. "I'll trust you. Go find John quickly."
Aurora did this to make Wade trust her more.
"OK." Wade pretended to comfort Aurora a bit before leaving.
He didn't go to find John but drove to see Sandra.
Aurora knew Wade was going to see Sandra. As soon as Wade left, she followed him.
But chasing a car on foot was hopeless. By the time she got outside, she could only see the taillights of Wade's car disappearing down the street.
This might be her only chance to find her child. She couldn't miss it.
A private car drove by, and Aurora flagged it down. The driver was a beautiful woman. "Please, I really need your help. My husband is cheating, and I need to catch him. He just drove by in that car."
This trick always worked for Aurora. As long as she mentioned a cheating husband, 99% of women were willing to help.
"Get in." The woman was very warm-hearted.
"Thank you."
Aurora got in the car and directed, "Turn left up ahead and speed up, or we'll lose him."
Aurora could only rely on luck. With the few minutes she'd lost, Wade might already be long gone.
But fortune favored her. As soon as they turned the corner, she saw Wade's car parked by the roadside.
Wade came out of a nearby convenience store.
Wade had gone to buy a pack of cigarettes.
"Miss, that's the car. Follow him, but be careful. He's very alert. I've tried tracking him several times and always lost him before I could find the mistress who ruined my family.," Aurora spoke angrily, looking every bit the part of a woman scorned.
The woman replied, "Don't worry, I'm a pro at this."
Aurora was taken aback and curiously asked, "What do you do?"
The woman smiled, "I help rich women catch mistresses."
Is there really such a profession?
Aurora carefully looked at the woman. She had bangs, a round face, and looked quite cute, seemingly in her twenties.
The woman handed Aurora a business card and introduced herself, "I'm Calla Griffin. Here's my card. If you ever need this kind of service, feel free to contact me. I'm a professional. Oh, and I also help men manage their wives and mistresses, making sure everyone gets along well. A harmonious family is everything."
Aurora couldn't help but ask, "Whose side are you on?"
"Depends on the price." Calla looked a bit embarrassed, but her words were not.
"Just follow him," Aurora reminded as Wade's car sped up.
"No problem."
Calla also sped up and matched Wade's pace, keeping a safe distance without drawing attention. She was indeed a professional.
It also helped that dusk was setting in.
Suddenly, Aurora saw police up ahead, seemingly conducting checks.
Aurora's heart raced. She was a wanted criminal. She wasn't afraid of being caught but of missing the chance to find her child.
Wade had already stopped at the checkpoint. Aurora clenched her hands tightly as a police officer approached, her nerves on edge.
There was a knock on the window.
"Roll down the window for inspection," the officer spoke formally.
Calla rolled down the window and smiled at the officer, "Sir, what are you checking for?"
The officer was stern, "Driver's license, please."
Calla handed over her license. The officer looked at it and then at Aurora, "And yours?"
Aurora kept her head down. When called out, she steeled herself, lifted her head, and contorted her face as if she had a muscle spasm, making her features almost unrecognizable. "Sir, I didn't bring my license. I left it at home."
Calla was startled, "You were fine just now. What happened to your face..."
Aurora grabbed Calla's arm and pinched her, signaling her not to say anything.
Calla was confused but instinctively cooperated with Aurora, saying, "This is my sister. Her face has always been like this. Sir, why don't you come to my house, and I'll have my sister show you her license?"
"Move along," the officer waved them off. It was just a routine check.
"Thank you, officer." Calla started the car and drove through the intersection, only to see Aurora's photo on a nearby LED screen, with the words "Wanted Criminal" in bold.
Calla couldn't help but scream, "You're a wanted criminal!"
Aurora's face returned to normal. Realizing she was exposed, she threatened, "Shut up and follow that car. If you lose it, I'll kill you. I am a wanted criminal, after all."
