Chapter 323: A Quick Meeting with a Rival in Love
Aurora rubbed her temples and spoke to Linda, "Have Mr. Smith go meet him."
Todd also held a position at AJ Group.
Linda hesitated, "Ms. White, Mr. Smith didn't come in today."
Aurora then remembered that Todd might be tangled up with Lori at the moment.
"Then you go greet him first, I'll be there shortly." Aurora paused and added, "Is Mr. Taylor here for the North Lake project?"
"Yes, Mr. Taylor has tried to meet with you several times before but was turned down. This time, he said he won't leave until he sees you," Linda replied. "He'll wait as long as it takes."
Aurora uttered, "Alright, let him wait."
Aurora busied herself, connecting with John via video call. Whenever she had questions, John would teach her through the video, making the process quite efficient.
After more than an hour, Aurora stretched her limbs to loosen up.
In the video, John was sitting in the yard, drinking tea and enjoying the peach blossoms, looking very relaxed.
Aurora complained, "You're really having it easy. When are you coming back? I'm working myself to death here, and you're just lounging around."
John took a leisurely sip of tea, a smile playing on his lips, "Aurora, you had me sent here overnight. Sandra hasn't taken the bait yet; I only caught a small fish last night."
"What's going on?" Aurora put her legs up on the table, sipping her coffee.
"Oren came with his men, but I took care of them and even managed to recruit some of his people," John answered, fiddling with the ring on his pinky. "This thing you gave me really works."
Aurora gave a thumbs up, clearly impressed.
Seeing that ring reminded Aurora of Alexander crying his eyes out in the car.
Aurora frowned, and even the slightest furrow of her brow or purse of her lips was noticed by John, who could read her thoughts.
"What's wrong? What happened?" John asked.
"There's a situation with Alexander," Aurora said, clearly troubled. "Nicole really is Alexander's sister. He was just here crying, trying to gain sympathy."
"That is definitely a mess," John commented, taking another sip of tea. "Aurora, whatever you decide, I've got your back."
"Sweetheart, you can't do this," Aurora said, cupping her face with her hands on the table. "If you keep indulging me like this, I'll lose my way. You're my rock; you need to make decisions for me."
John chuckled, "The Aurora I know is independent and decisive. How could you lose your way?"
"Stop teasing me," Aurora pouted. "By the way, pay attention to Ava's situation. Find out where she's been moved to. Lori is really worried, and if this drags on, she might fall apart."
"We're close to figuring it out. Just keep Lori calm, and leave the rest to me," John responded.
That was reassuring to hear.
Aurora played with her coffee cup and casually mentioned, "My ex-boyfriend came to the office to talk about the North Lake project. I've been ignoring him for over an hour."
Hearing this, John perked up, "Still can't give up."
Aurora laughed, "My charm hasn't faded."
Just then, Aurora saw someone approaching, "I have to go to a meeting. Talk later."
With that, Aurora hung up, not giving John a chance to say more.
John stared at the ended video call, put down his teacup, and called out, "Sam, Tyler."
"Mr. Lewis." Sam came out of the kitchen, his face covered in soot, his eyes red from the smoke.
He had been trying to cook, but the firewood was hard to manage, and he hadn't even gotten a fire started.
"Mr. Lewis, what's up?" Tyler came out of the main room, holding a mop in one hand and a rag in the other. He had been called to clean by Glenn.
Two free laborers, might as well use them.
Seeing their disheveled state, John's eyes darkened, "You two get ready, we're heading down the mountain."
"Mr. Lewis, leaving so soon?" Sam was confused. "Weren't we supposed to lure Sandra out?"
"If we don't leave now, we might lose more than just Sandra," John answered.
Tyler quickly agreed, "Mr. Lewis, I'll go get the car."
They packed up and left half an hour later.
The three headed straight for the city.
On the way, Sam saw a car parked by the roadside and noticed two familiar figures sitting on a stone block.
"Mr. Lewis, doesn't that look like Mr. Smith?" Sam asked.
John was too caught up with the ex-boyfriend situation to notice.
Tyler glanced over, "It really does, even the cast is in the same spot."
The car drove past Todd and Lori without stopping.
Todd turned to look at the car, thinking it looked like John's, but he couldn't see the people inside clearly and didn't think much of it.
As the car drove away, Todd asked the dazed Lori beside him, "How long do you plan to stay here? If we don't leave soon, we'll be here for the sunset."
"Mind your own business," Lori snapped, annoyed by Todd's constant chatter.
Lori got off the stone block and said, "Todd, call Mr. Jennings and invite him to dinner. My treat."
"Isn't it enough that you're dragging me into this? Now you want to drag Allan too?" Todd shook his head. "He's suspended and probably being watched. If you invite him out now, it'll be risky for both of you."
"Just tell me, will you make the call or not?" Lori was desperate; she couldn't just sit and wait.
Lori stared at Todd, her eyes clear and pleading, looking so vulnerable that anyone would feel sorry for her.
"...Fine." Todd turned away and reluctantly made the call, "Allan, come out for dinner tonight. My treat. You have to come."
After making Daniel wait for two hours, Aurora finally went to see him.
Aurora vocied, "Mr. Taylor, you've got a lot of patience."
Daniel finally saw Aurora, who looked even more attractive in her business attire, exuding the charm of a professional woman.
"Aurora." Daniel stood up, smiling, "It's worth the wait to see you."
Aurora reminded him, "Mr. Taylor, please call me Ms. White or Mrs. Lewis."
Daniel didn't seem to mind and smiled, "Ms. White."
Aurora sat down, all business, "So, Mr. Taylor, what are your thoughts on the North Lake project? Why should AJ Group collaborate with you?"
Daniel was straightforward, "Ms. White, we've had our differences. Honestly, I didn't think you'd consider working with me."
"I haven't," Aurora replied bluntly. "I don't trust your character."
"Someone like me, character?" Daniel joked. "Today, let's not talk business. I have something more important and interesting for you. Want to hear it, Ms. White?"
