Chapter 230 There's Another Person in the Room
Skyview Haven Hotel.
Aurora had Sam wheel her around. If she was gonna play the weak card, she had to go all in.
She was already pretty frail, and her pregnancy was shaky, so being in a wheelchair wasn't a big leap. No one would question it, and Richard wouldn't suspect a thing.
Aurora hung out in the hotel lobby for a bit, asking the front desk if Richard had left since checking in.
John's guys had tracked Richard to the hotel but hadn't seen him leave. Asking the front desk was just to double-check.
The receptionist remembered Richard and smiled at Aurora. "He hasn't left since he checked in."
"Okay, thanks." Aurora smiled back, then told Sam, "Go hit the elevator button."
They went upstairs and got to Richard's room. Lachlan rang the doorbell, and soon enough, the door opened.
Richard was in a bathrobe and slippers, clearly fresh out of the shower. Jack had been caught, yet Richard still had time to shower. Something was definitely suspicious about him.
"Richard." Aurora put on her best worried face. "What are we gonna do about Jack?"
Richard glanced at Sam and the others, a flicker of something in his eyes. "Aurora, why'd you bring them here?"
Aurora explained, "My health's not great, and things have been sketchy lately. John was worried his enemies might come after me, so he sent them to protect me." Then she switched gears. "Richard, let's talk about Jack first. You said you didn't make the call, but Jack said it was you. What's the deal?"
"Let's talk inside." Richard stepped aside to let them in, and Sam pushed Aurora inside.
As soon as they were in, Sam and the others were on high alert.
Richard poured water for Aurora, looking pretty troubled. "Before coming here, I asked Christopher and Robert, and had Hank look into it. That's when I found out Jack had secretly bought a warehouse in Silvercrest City and was contacting buyers on his own. Aurora, it's all my fault. If I'd noticed earlier, Jack wouldn't have been caught."
"You mean Jack did this?" Aurora acted surprised while quickly thinking it over. She was sure Jack wouldn't and didn't dare to break the law.
"Jack might've been too eager to prove himself, too impatient, and took a risk." Richard said, sounding disappointed, "How could Jack be so foolish? I was grooming him to be my successor."
"Then what about the phone call?" Facing Richard's lies, Aurora was pretty mad but couldn't do anything about it. At least not right now.
"With today's tech, it's not hard to spoof numbers or use voice-changing software. Jack is just too young," Richard said worriedly. "Aurora, have you seen Jack? Maybe you should ask John for help. This is his turf, and it'd be easier for him to act. If that doesn't work, we might have to get Lori to break him out."
Richard's words made Aurora's heart skip a beat. Getting Lori to break him out would be sending her to her death. How could an uncle suggest such a thing?
As she pondered, a realization struck her. Lori was Richard's niece, but who was Lori's mother?
Her mother had said in the letter that Richard had no siblings, and even her mother was just an adopted daughter of the Lee family. So, was Lori's mother also adopted?
Aurora frowned and didn't agree with Richard's suggestion. "Richard, we need to think this through. I believe Jack wouldn't break the law. We should find evidence to clear his name, not put Lori in danger."
Richard sighed, "I don't have any other options. The rules have been tight lately. Jack would definitely get caught doing something like this."
In other words, Richard planned to do nothing. How sneaky.
Aurora took a sip of water and casually said, "Richard, do you think Alexander could be behind this?"
"Very likely. Alexander is a snake. He killed your mother back then, and now he's going after Jack. It makes sense," Richard said angrily, clenching his fists. "Aurora, you have to make sure Alexander stays in jail this time. Don't let him out."
"He won't get out. John said this time, they'll settle the score properly," Aurora said on purpose. "John has gathered more evidence of Alexander's crimes, enough to keep him locked up for life."
Richard was thrilled and slapped his thigh. "That's great news." Realizing he had overreacted, Richard toned it down. "That's what Alexander deserves."
"But I'm still worried about Jack." Aurora lowered her head, looking troubled and anxious, while secretly scanning the room for anything unusual.
"Aurora, don't worry too much. We'll find a way." Richard suddenly stood up and walked towards Aurora, placing a hand on her shoulder and rubbing it lightly.
The gesture was so inappropriate that it made Aurora feel sick.
Richard added, "I brought you some supplements. Take them and take care of yourself."
"Thank you." Aurora pretended to be worried. "Richard, I won't disturb your rest any longer. I'll go find John."
"Alright." Richard said, "Tomorrow, I'll also contact some old friends in Silvercrest City to see if there's a way to help Jack."
"Thanks for that." After leaving the hotel room, Aurora's expression immediately turned cold. "Did you notice anything?"
Lachlan nodded. "There's someone else in the room."
Tyler added, "And it's a woman. She's wearing Dior perfume."
Aurora hadn't noticed anything just now. Indeed, professional matters should be left to professionals.
Aurora said, "Leave two people here to keep an eye on things."
"Yes, Ms. White."
Aurora then called Lori. "Come to Silvercrest City when you have time."
In the hotel room.
Richard was savoring the scent of his hand that had touched Aurora. "So fragrant."
"What a creep." Jennifer's voice came from the inner room as she walked out.
Richard smiled and sat where Aurora had been sitting. "I gave you a chance before, but you blew it."
"John protects her too well. You're her uncle, yet she brought so many people to see you. It seems she doesn't fully trust you either," Jennifer remarked.
"She won't. Aurora is just like her mother, a fool driven by emotions. She'll never suspect that I'm behind all this," Richard was quite arrogant. "Nightfall and The Shadow of Darkness organization have been stepping on me for years. Now it's my turn to crush them."
"You won't even spare my father?" Jennifer said sternly, "You can go after Aurora and John, but you can't harm my father."
She wanted John to lose everything so she could have a chance to win him, which was why she chose to cooperate with Richard.
"What a dutiful daughter." Richard sneered, "Between you and Aurora, who do you think Alexander would choose? Alexander never treated you as his own daughter."
"That's my business. You can't touch my father." With that, Jennifer left, slamming the door behind her.
Sam, who had been left behind by Aurora, saw Jennifer coming out of Richard's room and was quite surprised.
He quickly called Aurora. "Ms. White, I just saw Jennifer."
