Chapter 36 Taking Advantage of John
John was chosen by Lloyd to inherit the Lewis family, and Lucas never envied him.
John made the business world tremble with his iron-fisted approach, and Lucas never felt jealous.
Even when challenging Rex, Lucas didn't feel envious.
Only now did Lucas envy John for meeting Aurora before he did.
John also understood Lucas, and upon hearing something unusual from Aurora, he immediately issued a warning.
"Lucas, you are my dearest brother."
In the Lewis family, John trusted Lucas the most; otherwise, he wouldn't have let Lucas take over the Wilson Group or know about his fake limp and disfigurement.
Lucas' eyes dimmed. "John, I understand everything."
He was able to withdraw from the power struggle within the Lewis family and enjoy a few years in the entertainment industry, all thanks to John.
John patted Lucas on the shoulder. "Go on up."
Lucas went upstairs and saw Aurora's busy figure as soon as he entered the company.
Aurora was looking up information. She knew five languages, but sometimes, she still had to consult materials to ensure accuracy.
Aurora was so busy with her head down that she didn't even notice Lucas. She was holding some documents and was about to go to the finance department to verify some information when she turned around and bumped into Lucas.
The documents in her hands were scattered all over the floor. Seeing it was Lucas, Aurora quickly apologized, "Sorry, boss."
She was really unlucky. She had offended Lucas in the morning and now bumped into him in the afternoon.
Lucas had a stern face and didn't say anything.
Aurora thought, 'Oops!I'm definitely getting fired.'
Her colleague Rose Ward quickly came over and said, "Aurora, how could you be so careless? Hurry up and pick up the documents. Mr. Lucas Lewis, are you alright?"
Lucas snapped out of it and said indifferently, "The headquarters will select two people from this company to go for training. Those interested can sign up."
Upon hearing this, the employees were all excited.
The Lewis Group headquarters was a place many people dreamed of getting into.
Aurora's eyes lit up when she heard the news.
After graduating, she had initially applied to the Lewis Group but was rejected. Now, she had another chance to get in and work on a bigger platform. Aurora naturally wouldn't miss this opportunity.
There were only two spots for training at the Lewis Group headquarters, but the company had over a hundred employees.
The competition was fierce.
Lucas didn't mention the assessment criteria, so everyone speculated about who was most likely to go to the headquarters during their breaks.
Feeling thirsty, Aurora went to the break room to get some water but was stopped by Rose. "Aurora, there are only two spots for training at the headquarters. You're my biggest competitor. I hope you can withdraw. Name your price. $100,000. Is that enough?"
'Is there really such a good deal?' Aurora thought.
Aurora was stunned and smiled faintly. "Sorry, I also want to go to the headquarters. I can't agree to your request."
"Aurora," Rose glared at her. "don't be ungrateful. $100,000 is your annual salary. You get $100,000 for free and still have a chance next year. Why must you compete with me?"
How strange Rose was!
It was a competition, so why shouldn't Aurora compete?
Aurora thought Rose was being unreasonable. "There are two spots. Why are you so worried about not getting in? Besides, why should I withdraw just because you asked me to?"
"There aren't really two spots. Are you pretending not to know? They say there are two spots, but actually, there's only one. The other spot has already been pre-determined."
"Pre-determined?" Aurora was a bit surprised. "How could that be?"
And Lucas had just announced it. How could it be pre-determined so quickly, and how did Rose know?
"To be honest, I overheard it," Rose said, "I heard Mr. Lucas RLewis on the phone. One spot is already pre-determined, so Aurora, you must withdraw."
Rose was asking for help with such a bad attitude.
Aurora wasn't going to tolerate this bad behavior.
"Sorry, I can't agree." Aurora left with a parting shot. "If you want to get into the headquarters, rely on your own capabilities."
Aurora walked out of the break room, and Rose stared at her departing figure with a venomous look in her eyes.
'Aurora, you brought this on yourself.' Rose thought.
Back at her desk, Aurora got busy and soon forgot about Rose.
When it was time to leave, Aurora finished her work and packed up to go.
Lucas' car drove out of the underground parking lot, and from a distance, he saw Aurora waiting for a ride at the intersection. He thought about driving over but remembered John's warning and turned around instead.
Aurora was waiting for John by the roadside and had sent him a message. John would arrive in about ten minutes.
Aurora was looking down at her phone when she suddenly heard a car horn. She looked up and saw Kevin sitting in the car.
Kevin smiled and waved at Aurora. "Aurora."
Aurora walked over, feeling surprised, and asked, "Mr. Kevin Robinson, what are you doing here?"
"Just wanted to discuss something about the banquet," Kevin said with a friendly smile, "Let's talk in the car."
Aurora hesitated but got in, realizing it wasn't appropriate to chat by the roadside.
What Aurora didn't know was that Rose, who had just come out of the company, captured this scene.
Rose took several photos, choosing angles that only showed Aurora getting into a luxury car with a man without revealing his full face, just a side profile.
From the side profile, it was clear that the man was an older middle-aged man.
Rose sneered. "She doesn't even spare middle-aged men and pretends to be innocent in the company. I knew someone like Aurora couldn't be clean. With such a pretty face, it's no wonder she can't stay out of trouble."
A colleague next to her chimed in, "Aurora is so scheming. She probably bumped into Lucas on purpose this afternoon to get his attention."
"Poor her boyfriend, though. He's so handsome. What a pity. His girlfriend is cheating on him, and he doesn't even know."
"Exactly. Rose, we must expose Aurora and make sure she can't stay in the company."
Another colleague worriedly said, "Joe offended Aurora before and didn't end well. We better not mess with her. The company suddenly changed ownership, and I think it might have something to do with Aurora. Didn't she wear a bracelet worth hundreds of thousands of dollars last time? Maybe she really has someone powerful behind her, and we can't afford to offend her."
Rose said, "What are you afraid of? I asked Donna, and Aurora's bracelet is fake, only a few hundred dollars."
"Yeah, what are we afraid of? Aurora has been in the company for so long. If she really had someone powerful behind her, why would she stay in this small company? I think she's just using her looks to be a mistress for rich men."
Rose smiled smugly. "Aurora is a disgrace to women. We're just exposing her misdeeds. I'll anonymously send these photos to the company email. As long as we don't say anything, who will know?"
Rose had made up her mind. If Aurora couldn't stay in the company, she would leave on her own. Even if they couldn't force her out, they would make her lose the opportunity to go to the headquarters.
Aurora stayed in Kevin's car for a few minutes, confirming the details of the banquet, including the time and place.
Kevin had chosen a tight schedule, with the banquet set for this weekend.
That meant there were only two days left.
The Robinson family would handle all the banquet arrangements, and Aurora only needed to attend and make an appearance.
Shortly after Aurora got out of Kevin's car, John's car arrived.
She opened the door and got in, only to find Todd sitting in the back seat. She greeted him with a smile, "Mr. Smith."
Aurora smiled brightly at Todd, but it was only because Todd was John's friend. However, this smile made John a bit jealous.
The temperature in the car suddenly dropped, and the atmosphere was filled with an invisible tension.
Todd glanced at John, his heart pounding with fear.
"Miss White," Todd responded with a forced smile and quickly changed the subject. "By the way, Miss White, I just saw you getting out of Kevin's car from the Robinson Group. I heard from the boss that you had offended the Robinson family. Was Kevin here to cause trouble?"
Todd knew that Kevin wouldn't cause trouble. John had already sent someone to talk to him, but Todd was still curious about why Kevin was looking for Aurora.
"No."
Aurora remembered that she hadn't told John about the Robinson family wanting to adopt her as a foster daughter.
Aurora then said, "Although Leo is vengeful and unreasonable, Mr. Kevin Robinson is quite reasonable. Mr. Kevin Robinson knew that the previous incident was his son's fault, so he didn't cause me any trouble. He even personally came to apologize and said he felt a connection with me, so he wanted to adopt me as his foster daughter."
"What?"
Todd's eyes widened. "Kevin wants to adopt you as his foster daughter? He's really cunning, getting such a big advantage."
