Chapter 149 Danger on the Verge

Summer and Loren looked like the picture of innocence—cute and lovable kids. Who would've guessed they were the ones who pranked Jane?

No one saw it happen.

But everyone sure heard Jane's loud, angry rant, calling the kids little brats and saying they had no manners.

Loren pouted, looking all hurt. "Helen, Jane doesn't seem to like me and Summer."

Loren's sad face made almost every woman there want to scoop him up and comfort him. They all wished they could hug Loren and make him feel better. Jane might not like them, but they sure did.

Summer looked worried. "Helen, Jane wanted some water, and Loren kindly poured her some juice. We didn't think she'd get mad."

Summer's tone made it sound like Jane was just being unreasonable, picking on kids.

"You two are good kids, don't worry about it." Helen held their hands. "Ignore her."

Helen never really liked Jane anyway.

"Helen." Loren, being the little charmer he was, hugged Helen. "I'm scared."

"Don't be afraid, Jane won't be around the Lewis family for long." Helen's words made it clear to everyone there.

The Lewis family didn't acknowledge Jane.

Aurora and Sophia walked in from outside, clueless about what had just gone down. By the time they got in, everyone was already chatting in groups.

Aurora found Helen. "Helen, where's Lloyd? Why isn't he here yet?"

Lloyd was the star of the show today.

"He's resting in the back room," Helen said. "He should be here soon."

Aurora nodded. "Then I'll take Summer and Loren to get something to eat first."

There were too many guests today. Aurora was worried Jane might cause more trouble and hurt Summer and Loren, so she wanted to get them out of the way for a bit.

"Alright, I'll leave them to you. I'll go check on Jane," Helen said, clearly annoyed. "It's Lloyd's birthday banquet, and she's embarrassing me."

As Helen left, Aurora took the kids out of the hall. "Summer, Loren, Sophia will take you home later."

"Aurora, why are you sending us away?" Loren asked, looking for some praise. "Summer and I just taught Jane a lesson and made her leave with her butt showing."

"Hmm?" Aurora was puzzled. "What happened?"

Summer explained, "We put super glue on the chair, and when she got up, her skirt tore."

"I also added a ton of salt to her juice and spat in it," Loren said with a huff. "She bullied you and called us little brats."

Aurora felt a mix of amusement and guilt, as it was her fault the kids were called brats.

"Summer, Loren, I'm sorry." Aurora hugged them. "You go with Sophia first. I'll deal with Jane for insulting you."

Summer, being sharp, sensed something was up. "Aurora, is something wrong?"

Why else would they be sent away so quickly?

Aurora said, "I'll explain later."

Aurora thought it was time to acknowledge the kids. She didn't need to wait for the test results; Jane's test results had already proven it.

John had said Wade would force Lloyd to hand over the shares today. The birthday banquet seemed calm on the surface but was actually full of hidden dangers.

If Jane was going to cause trouble, Aurora needed to get Summer and Loren out of there first, or she wouldn't be able to relax.

Summer and Loren were very understanding.

"Okay, we'll go with Sophia."

Aurora smiled with relief. "Good kids, just go now."

Sophia was waiting at the hotel entrance. Seeing Aurora bring the kids out, she quickly waved. "Over here, Summer, Loren."

"Hurry, get in the car," Aurora said, ushering the kids into the vehicle. She turned to Sophia, "Let me know when you get home."

"No problem," Sophia replied with an OK gesture. "You can trust me with them."

Aurora watched the car drive off and finally let out a sigh of relief. But before she could turn around, a creepy voice sounded behind her.

"Ms. White, sending them away in such a hurry. Is there something about those kids that can't be seen?"

It was Wade.

Aurora quickly composed herself and shot Wade a cold look. "Mr. Wade Lewis, you seem to have a lot of free time. The banquet's about to start; shouldn't you be in the hall making an appearance?"

"What's the rush? John hasn't arrived yet," Wade said with a sly smile. "It's almost noon, and he still hasn't shown up. Maybe he won't make it?"

"It's Mr. Lewis's seventieth birthday. He won't miss it," Aurora retorted coldly. "Mr. Wade Lewis, don't get too happy too soon."

Wade's face remained with that annoying, fake smile. Aurora wanted to rip it off.

It was disgusting.

Aurora felt sorry for John, having such a slimy cousin.

Wade stepped closer to Aurora. "It seems Ms. White hasn't made up her mind about my offer. The position of the lady of the Lewis Family is something every woman in Silvercrest City dreams of."

"I wouldn't care about being the lady of the Lewis family if you were its leader."

Aurora didn't hold back.

Wade wasn't fazed; he liked Aurora's fiery attitude.

"You're quite different from Jennifer," Wade said with a determined tone. "You will be my woman sooner or later."

"Hah!" Aurora sneered. "Then you better go to sleep now."

Wade asked, "What do you mean?"

"Go dream it." With that, Aurora turned and walked into the hall.

Wade watched her with interest. "Interesting."

Aurora found a less crowded spot and tried calling John, but his phone was off.

Wade's confident demeanor had her a bit worried.

"Ms. White, worried about the boss?" Todd walked over, swirling a glass of red wine.

"I just ran into Wade, and I'm a bit worried about him," Aurora frowned. "Where is he?"

"The boss is on his way."

Aurora breathed a slight sigh of relief. Just then, she saw Jane, who had changed clothes and come back, making her feel a bit exasperated.

"Mr. Smith, if Jane shows any signs of causing trouble later, take her away immediately."

It seemed that only by getting rid of Jane could today's banquet go smoothly.

Todd cracked his knuckles. "It seems Ms. Torres has angered Ms. White. Honestly, I want to throw her out right now."

How did she dare to call Summer and Loren brats?

Aurora glanced at Todd. They both had the same thought, but it wasn't convenient to act with so many people around.

Jane deliberately chose crowded places, and Aurora had to give her credit. Despite the earlier embarrassment, she still dared to come out.

But this also proved Jane's determination to cause trouble. Jane was set on confronting her today.

Aurora was never one to sit back and wait. Instead of letting Jane, the ticking time bomb, explode, she decided to defuse it herself.

Jane had been searching for Aurora in the hall. At that moment, she received a message from Wade.

Wade: [Use your bell, go make Aurora lose her reputation.]

After sending the message, Wade walked towards the lounge.

Jane's belly was fake, arranged by Wade to hinder John. He didn't trust Jane and wouldn't let her "belly" stay. If a real child came out, it would be troublesome.

Jane put away her phone and walked towards Aurora.

Aurora was distracted because a very familiar figure had just entered the hall.
