Chapter 47 Help Find Brother
Aurora, still shaken, instinctively hooked her arms around the other person's neck.
Seeing the face close to hers, Aurora was almost scared out of her wits.
"Mr. Lewis?"
The scarred mask on John's face would frighten anyone, especially when caught off guard.
"Miss White is quite eager to throw yourself into my arms?" John smirked with a devilish charm.
Aurora steadied herself, quickly let go, and got up from John's embrace.
"What are you doing here, Mr. Lewis?"
Aurora's voice was cold, clearly angry. He had pulled her, yet it seemed like she was the one throwing herself at him.
"I came specifically to bring you a gift." John took out a prepared gift.
It was a hairpin, butterfly-shaped, encrusted with diamonds, matching Aurora's light blue gown perfectly.
Aurora's dress was a dance gown with a strapless inner layer and a blue sheer overlay adorned with dozens of blue butterflies. As she moved, the sheer fabric fluttered, making the butterflies seem alive, dancing gracefully.
Aurora glanced at it indifferently but did not accept it. "Mr. Lewis, I appreciate your gesture. Thank you for attending the banquet."
Because of what had just happened, Aurora was still unsettled. The man and the child weren't real, but the things were.
If Nicole and Emily had pushed things further, she wouldn't have escaped so easily.
Aurora had thought a lot in the lounge earlier. What was meant to come would come; the secret in her heart would be discovered sooner or later.
John, ignoring whether Aurora wanted it or not, pinned the hairpin on her. "I, John, never take back what I give."
John.
Maybe it was the same name that made Aurora momentarily forget to react.
Should she be glad that John went to work and didn't attend the banquet?
Otherwise, she wouldn't know how to explain tonight's events to John.
Looking at the John in front of her, Aurora couldn't help but think of another John.
"Thank you." Aurora didn't refuse anymore.
John, sitting in his wheelchair, casually tapped the armrest. "Miss White, your approach just now was too lenient. Letting Nicole and Emily off so easily?"
Nicole and Emily were the masterminds behind today's incident.
"For enemies, the best revenge is to break their spirit. Besides, there's plenty of time. Letting them see me live better than before is a more satisfying revenge, isn't it?"
Given Nicole and Emily's ability to argue, what good would it do to send them to the police?
Today's occasion wasn't suitable for that anyway; it would have made things difficult for Kevin.
Percy had stepped up, and Kevin had shown his support for her. That was enough.
Personal grudges should be settled privately.
After today's events, Emily would have a hard time in the Taylor family, and Nicole wouldn't be able to hold her ground in the circle of wealthy ladies.
And Aurora wasn't going to let it go either.
John observed Aurora's expression, recalling her reaction to the child earlier.
It felt like a thorn in his heart.
John suppressed his doubts. In the rented house, Aurora had already become his woman. He had decided on her, and her past didn't matter anymore.
"Miss White, the ball is about to start."
"Aurora, I just heard that Emily caused another scene." Sophia's voice came from downstairs.
Aurora glanced downstairs, seeing Sophia rushing up. "I was only gone for a moment, and such a big thing happened. Nicole and Emily are disgusting, and they can't stand to see you well."
"Getting angry over irrelevant people isn't worth it." When Aurora looked back, John was already gone.
"With my bad temper, if I had been there earlier, I would have cursed Nicole and Emily to death."
"Why are you so angry? Did Andrew provoke you again?"
Aurora found it strange. Andrew always managed to irritate Sophia every now and then. Though they were half-siblings, they acted like lifelong enemies.
"That guy ruined my dress earlier, so I had to go back to the car to change." Sophia fumed. "I really can't get along with him. I've already told my dad, it's either him or me in that house."
Aurora smiled. Sometimes she envied Sophia's willful and carefree nature.
Only those who grew up surrounded by love could have such a sunny disposition.
The ball began.
Aurora opened the dance.
As the elegant music played, Aurora stepped into the dance floor with graceful steps.
Her slender hands and graceful figure were stunning, capturing everyone's attention.
Aurora danced a classical dance. As she moved, the butterflies on the sheer fabric seemed to dance along, making her look like a butterfly herself, breathtakingly beautiful.
Aurora hadn't danced in a long time. The last time was months ago when Sophia dragged her to a bar.
Starting with a classical dance was rare, refreshing, and a visual feast.
Aurora's movements were fluid and graceful. Every move seemed easy but was actually very challenging, leaving many socialites secretly in awe.
Before today, no one knew Aurora. After today, everyone would.
As the music ended, Aurora finished her final move, and thunderous applause filled the room.
Kevin and his wife beamed with pride. They had found a gem.
Aurora smiled gracefully and exited the stage.
The dance floor was then left to others.
Aurora went to the backyard to rest, changed out of her dance gown, and finally had a moment to drink some water and calm down.
Aurora knew today would be a turning point in her life. From now on, her days would no longer be peaceful.
Taking a few deep breaths, Aurora checked her phone. There were no messages from John.
A pang of disappointment hit her.
Aurora put down her glass and went to the guest room.
The little boy was quietly eating sweets. Seeing Aurora, he stood up timidly. "Lady, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to lie."
This kid was really clever.
He could read faces. Those blue eyes showed he had a lot on his mind.
"Then you have to tell me, why did you lie? Where are your parents?"
Maybe because this child looked about the same age as the one she never got to meet, Aurora's maternal instincts kicked in.
"I don't have parents. I'm an orphan. I have a brother, but we got separated, and I ended up with that bad man." The little boy lowered his head. "That man said if I came and called you mommy, I'd get good food, clothes, and someone to care for me. Otherwise, he'd hit me."
Aurora's heart softened, feeling an urge to hug him.
The little boy was very endearing, with a particularly beautiful pair of eyes that seemed familiar.
The boy sniffled and asked, "Lady, you won't be mad at me, right?"
"No." Aurora hugged the boy.
"Really?" The boy asked excitedly, "Lady, can you help me find my brother?"
