Chapter 88 Similar to Jennifer
John had been in disguise for so long that stopping now would shock everyone.
The Lewis family was so full of drama that John had to stay in disguise.
Aurora sat quietly, just like John had asked, trying to be as graceful as possible.
Having been pretending for a long time, John couldn't just snap out of it; it had to be gradual.
Gary stayed at the Meadow Brook villa. After breakfast, Aurora and John drove to the company together.
John suddenly said, "That was Gary back there. We're friends till the end. He's a top-notch doctor, and we need his help to pull this off."
Aurora was a bit surprised that John felt the need to explain this to her.
She tilted her head and looked at John. "If you suddenly stop pretending, I bet a lot of women would be lining up to marry you."
When the socialites heard John was crippled, disfigured, and wouldn't live long, plus the Lewis family's internal strife, they were scared of becoming widows. But if John recovered, it would be a different story.
John would be a top-tier bachelor, and women would be green with envy.
John smirked. "Aurora, are you jealous?"
Aurora's sense of crisis made John feel quite pleased.
Aurora pouted, "Who's jealous? I'm just saying. I have nothing to do with you. You can be with whoever you want; it has nothing to do with me."
Suddenly, a force pulled Aurora into John's arms. He whispered in her ear, "We've been so close already, and you want to back out now? Hmm?"
John dragged out the last word, making it incredibly seductive.
His deep voice was so pleasant to hear. Aurora's cheeks flushed, and she gently pushed him. "Sit properly, and stop it. There is someone here."
Sam, who was driving, sensibly raised the soundproof panel immediately.
Aurora felt a bit helpless.
John said in a hushed voice, "Alright, now there's no one."
Aurora's words didn't match her feelings. "What era is it now? We're all adults. Who says that just because we've been intimate, we have to be in a relationship? Besides, it was definitely you who brought me here last night, right?"
"And before that?" John tightened his grip on Aurora's waist, his voice seductive. "Aurora, are you not satisfied with my previous performance? Don't want to take responsibility?"
Just thinking about John's prowess made Aurora swallow involuntarily.
Seeing that Aurora still hadn't completely opened up to him, John felt a bit frustrated.
Aurora's troubled past and the huge gap in their backgrounds meant it would take time for her to open up to him.
"There's plenty of time." John gently kissed Aurora on the forehead and let her go.
Aurora was slightly stunned. The soft feeling on her forehead lingered for a long time.
She knew John's intentions, but she still found it difficult to take that final step.
Aurora despised herself for being so indecisive.
The car drove into the parking lot, and Aurora and John took the executive elevator upstairs together. The elevator first stopped at Aurora's office floor. As she walked out, she immediately attracted the attention of many colleagues.
Aurora was the first woman to take the executive elevator with the CEO.
John sat in his wheelchair, still wearing his mask, as the elevator doors closed and continued upward.
As soon as Aurora sat down at her desk, a colleague came over to gossip.
"Aurora, what's the deal with you and Mr. Lewis? Spill it!"
"Yeah. You're the first one to ride the executive elevator with Mr. Lewis."
"Aurora, you've been pretty lucky with the guys lately. Share some of that luck with us!"
Aurora realized John had set her up. She didn't expect an elevator ride could cause so much drama.
She smiled and said, "I was about to be late and ran into Mr. Lewis, so we came up together."
Most people thought that since Aurora was Kevin's goddaughter, John was just looking out for her out of respect for Kevin. No one thought much more about it.
Linda came over with a stack of documents. "Aurora, can you organize these? Sandra resigned, so your workload's increased a bit. Sorry for the trouble."
"Sandra resigned?" Aurora asked. "Why did she leave all of a sudden?"
"I'm not sure. It was a directive from HR," Linda said quietly. "Seems like Mr. Lewis personally dismissed her."
Why would John dismiss Sandra? They had no interaction at all. Aurora was even more puzzled.
The news that Aurora and John took the elevator together quickly reached Wade's ears.
"Looks like John's really interested in Aurora," Wade said leisurely while trimming flowers in his office. "Bring Ms. White here. I want to see what kind of woman can be recognized as Kevin's goddaughter and catch John's eye."
"Yes, sir," the secretary responded and immediately left.
Aurora was busy when she suddenly got a notice to go to Vice President Lewis's office.
Vice President Lewis, Wade, the eldest son of the second branch of the Lewis Family—what did he want?
Aurora went with curiosity. It was her first time in Wade's office.
The secretary opened the door for her. "Ms. White, please come in."
"Thank you." Aurora walked in and saw Wade watering the flowers. "Vice President Lewis."
Wade turned around, and when he saw Aurora's face, a look of surprise flashed in his eyes. He subconsciously tightened his grip on the watering can but kept a calm expression. "Ms. White, please sit down."
"Is there something I can do for you, Vice President Lewis?" Aurora didn't dare to sit. Wade seemed very amiable, but she always felt he was hard to deal with.
"I have some connections with Mr. Robinson. I missed the previous banquet in Silver Crest City because of other commitments, but I heard you are in the company. I wanted to check in and see how you're adapting."
Wade was asking because of Kevin? Aurora felt it couldn't be that simple.
"It's been great. I'm enjoying my work. Thank you for your concern, Vice President Lewis," Aurora responded smoothly.
Wade smiled, thinking Aurora was very guarded.
"Ms. White, please sit." Wade poured water for Aurora himself and asked tentatively, "I also heard that you and John have an unusual relationship. I feel bad for John. After that car accident, he ended up like this. He married several wives, but they all died mysteriously. If Ms. White could be with my brother, I would be relieved."
"Vice President Lewis, you're joking. Mr. Lewis is my boss, and I'm just an ordinary employee," Aurora said with a faint smile. "It's really sad what happened to Mr. Lewis, but I believe he will get better."
Wade scrutinized Aurora carefully, thinking, "What a pity. To be honest, John suffered a severe heartbreak a few years ago and was down for almost half a year. I noticed that Ms. White resembles Jennifer from back then. Perhaps that's why John is giving you special attention."
