Chapter 244 Took a Knife for Her
A cool breeze swept by, making Richard shiver a bit.
This was a cemetery, after all. Wendy's grave was right in front of them, and now, Richard looked at Aurora, feeling a sense of dread. He wished he could just bolt.
Aurora's smile was creepy too. Seeing Richard scared, she turned and kept walking, secretly sighing in relief. She hoped Richard wouldn't follow.
As Aurora walked, she subtly looked around for anyone she could ask for help and calculated the distance. If Richard didn't dare come closer, she would find the right moment to run.
Waiting for death wasn't her style.
However, Richard still followed her.
Suddenly, fog rolled in.
It was weird how the fog didn't clear but got thicker.
The further Aurora walked, the more scared she felt. She could only pray in her heart, 'Mom, this is your territory. You have to protect me.'
About 50 feet from Wendy's tombstone, Aurora vaguely saw Dean's figure.
She thought, 'Why would Dean be here so early in the morning? Could it be that I really see a ghost?'
Thinking that, a chill ran down her spine.
When she got closer, she didn't see Dean, just a bouquet of fresh flowers in front of the grave.
Aurora looked around but didn't see anyone. She stared at Richard while shivering again, then pretended to be possessed, and asked in a trembling voice, "Did you see someone in front of my mom's grave just now?"
Richard was walking behind Aurora just now, and his view was blocked so he didn't see anyone. But it was clear someone had been at Wendy's grave, and with the fog thickening, he started to feel uneasy. "Aurora, you're playing tricks again. One moment your mom possesses you, the next you see someone. Stop messing with me."
Richard said this, but his fear didn't lessen.
"What do you mean my mom possessed me? I don't know anything about that." Aurora feigned confusion. "Mr. Lee, you must have a guilty conscience. You're scared in front of my mom's grave. Besides, there's a bouquet of flowers. Can't you see it?"
With that, a gust of wind suddenly blew, scattering the flower petals towards Richard.
A few petals stuck to Richard's face, and Aurora suddenly screamed, "I see my mom. She's coming for you."
Her scream snapped Richard's last nerve. He quickly brushed the petals off his face and instinctively said, "Wendy, I didn't harm you. You brought this on yourself."
When Richard saw clearly there was nothing coming for him, he realized he had been tricked by Aurora and that there was no Wendy at all.
Richard, humiliated and angry, said, "I told you, I didn't do anything to betray your mom."
His expression turned sinister as he walked quickly to the grave, then gripped the tombstone and said, "Wendy, stop playing tricks. I have a clear conscience. I'm not afraid of you. The Lee family adopted you to be my wife, but you fell for Alexander and got pregnant with his child. Isn't that a betrayal? No man could tolerate that."
The more Richard spoke, the more agitated he became. Hugging Wendy's tombstone, Aurora's earlier tricks had triggered his deep-seated fears, making him even more emotional to cover up his fear. "Wendy, why did you leave? If you had just aborted the child, I would have still married you. Without Alexander, you would have been mine. No, you were always mine."
Richard was totally lost in his emotions. He knelt by the tombstone while raving, "Wendy, it doesn't matter if you're dead. Your daughter will pay your debt. If you won't marry me, then your daughter will. You owe me this. I've saved a lot of money and found a secluded place. I'll take Aurora there, and we'll live a good life. As for the bastard in her belly, I'll give her an abortion potion, just like I did with you."
Richard laughed, a sinister sound that sent chills down Aurora's spine. "Don't worry, this time I'll make sure the child is completely gone."
What a creep.
Aurora didn't make a sound. While Richard wasn't paying attention, she slowly backed away, trying to escape.
As she carefully moved her feet, she suddenly bumped into someone.
Her heart skipped a beat as she turned around abruptly and saw Dean. She was both surprised and scared.
It was indeed Dean she had seen earlier.
Aurora, thinking of her situation, was afraid Dean would get involved. She quickly whispered, "Leave quickly."
But Dean didn't get it. He had just relieved himself nearby and was surprised to see Aurora here. "Aurora, why are you here? Visiting your mom? What day is it? John called me just now and said he was coming too. Did you two come together? Where's John?"
Hearing that John was already on his way, Aurora felt a glimmer of hope. But now was not the time to be happy. Dean's loud voice alerted Richard.
Richard realized Aurora was trying to escape and shouted angrily, "You're just like your mom, too many tricks. I already told Wendy, so I can take you away right now."
Dean, confused, asked, "Aurora, who is this guy?"
"Stop asking. Just run." Aurora ordered. She didn't even have time to let Dean untie her hands. Running was the priority.
Dean followed her while Richard chased after them with a knife.
Dean, pampered and out of shape, fell after running less than 200 feet.
Aurora had to go back to help him up. "Hurry up and run."
Dean decided to do something for Aurora. "Aurora, you run first. I'll hold him off."
Aurora said anxiously, "Forget it. Don't play the hero. That guy's a lunatic, a perverted suitor of my mom's."
"You're pregnant. You run first." Dean pushed Aurora and said, "I'll go talk some sense into him."
That was definitely a death wish. But Aurora couldn't stop him.
Dean, with a sense of righteousness, turned to Richard with a smile. "Sir, let's talk this out. Wendy is gone. There's no point in being so persistent."
"Dad, watch out." Aurora saw the knife in Richard's hand and screamed in terror.
By the time Dean realized, it was too late to dodge.
"Anyone who coveted Wendy deserves to die." As Richard said this, he stabbed Dean.
Blood splattered everywhere.
"Dad." Aurora panicked, screaming in fear. She didn't run but went back to support the fallen Dean with her tied hands and kicked Richard.
Richard reacted quickly, dodging backward.
Aurora couldn't hold Dean up. Dean clutched his wound, blood gushing from his abdomen, a horrifying sight.
"Run quickly." Dean gasped, his voice filled with fear of death. He didn't dare look at his wound.
Dean, always timid and fearful, completely overturned Aurora's impression of him at this moment.
Since she could remember, Dean had always been a stern and cold person, not at all like a father.
When other kids were bullied, their dads would hold their hands and say, "Let's go settle this."
But she had never experienced a father's love.
So she was somewhat disappointed in Dean. Besides giving her food and a place to live, Dean had given her nothing.
The only time Dean acted like a father was when he took a knife for her.
Aurora forced a smile to comfort Dean, "Dad, don't be afraid. I'm here. I'm capable. I won't let anything happen to you. You have to hold on. I'm looking forward to the day when my child is born and calls you grandpa."
"Aurora, come with me quickly." Richard said while reaching out to grab Aurora.
Yet before he could touch her, he was kicked about 10 feet away by someone.
