Chapter 20: Scandal Exposed

In the next room, Nicole was smiling as she attended to Percy. "Emily has been down because of Aurora lately. Percy, why don't you step in again and teach that girl a lesson?"

Percy replied harshly, "I've already warned you all not to mess with Aurora. Last time, the Harris family lost ten billion dollars and still hasn't figured out who did it."

"Is Chris doing any better?" asked Nicole.

Already in a bad mood, Percy became even more upset at the mention of Chris. Thinking about his beloved son losing a leg made his face darken.

"The doctor said Chris's left leg is useless and he'll never stand again." Percy slammed the table in anger. "Have you figured out who is backing Aurora? Who hurt my son and took his leg?"

Nicole trembled with fear and deeply regretted bringing it up.

"Aurora hasn't come back yet. Last time I sent Dean to find her, but that girl didn't give him any face." Nicole cautiously said, "Percy, have you figured out if someone really stood up for Aurora and did this to Chris? She doesn't have that kind of power. Who would stand up for her?"

Hearing this, Aurora was shocked.

So it was Percy who sent people to kidnap her.

And someone stood up for her and took Percy's son's leg.

'Who could it be? The Harris family is one of the four major families in Silvercrest City. Who would dare to provoke them?' she wondered.

Aurora didn't think she knew anyone powerful enough to take on the Harris family.

'Could it be Todd standing up for me because of John? No, John never mentioned anything about it,' she thought.

Sophia and Aurora exchanged glances. Sophia asked, "Could it be Daniel?"

"Absolutely not," Aurora said. "If Daniel had that kind of courage, we wouldn't be in this situation today."

Daniel, a bastard, even needed Emily's help to secure the Taylor family's inheritance. How could he dare to touch Percy's son?

To calm Percy down, Nicole's hands started to move restlessly towards Percy's thigh. "Percy, don't be angry. Why don't you lie down on the sofa, and I'll give you a good massage?"

The show was about to start.

Just then, Dean came in excitedly. "Aurora, there was a bit of traffic. Sorry I'm late. By the way, you said you had a solution to the company's funding problem. What is it?"

"Dad, no rush," Aurora exchanged a glance with Sophia and said with a smile, "Dad, Sophia said she has something to do. I'll see her out first. You sit and wait for a bit. I'll be right back."

"Okay." Dean knew Sophia, and even though he was anxious, he maintained his fatherly demeanor.

Aurora and Sophia left, and as they did, the landscape painting on the wall was still moved aside.

Once outside, Sophia asked, "Aurora, what if your dad doesn't see it?"

"Impossible," Aurora said. "Sophia, let's wait."

Aurora didn't leave but hid around the corner with Sophia, waiting to watch the show unfold.

In less than five minutes, Aurora saw Nicole come out of Magnolia Lodge looking flustered, and Dean storm out of Narcissus Pavilion in a rage.

"Dean, what are you doing here?" Nicole looked guilty and glanced back at the room, afraid Dean would barge in.

"Who were you having dinner with? What were you doing in there? Nicole, I've treated you well, and you cheated on me?" Dean's face twisted with anger, but he didn't dare make a big scene. Family scandals shouldn't be aired in public; it would be even more embarrassing if others found out.

"Dean, let me explain," Nicole panicked.

"I'm going in to see who it is," Dean said, pushing the door open.

"Dean," Nicole was desperate, blocking the door. "If you don't want the White family to go bankrupt, don't go in. Come back with me."

Dean glared at Nicole, gritting his teeth in hatred, and slapped her hard. "Nicole, you unfaithful woman. How could I end up marrying someone like you?"

The slap was so loud that Aurora heard it from several feet away.

In all these years, it was the first time she saw Dean hit Nicole.

Aurora felt a great sense of satisfaction.

Dean was so furious that the slap drew blood from Nicole.

Nicole was stunned for a few seconds, then suddenly screamed, "Ah, Dean, how dare you hit me? You heartless man. I'm doing this for you, to ease your worries about the company."

Nicole started to throw a tantrum, pulling at Dean's clothes and crying pitifully.

"Wow, her acting is incredible," Sophia couldn't help but exclaim. "Why doesn't your dad just go in? He's such a coward."

Aurora was used to it and knew Dean wouldn't dare go in.

"Percy is in there. He doesn't have the guts," Aurora whispered to Sophia. "You should go."

"Okay," Sophia understood and left.

After Sophia left, Aurora walked out with a puzzled look. "Aunt Clark, you're here too? You look so beautiful today. Are you planning a romantic date with Dad?"

Aurora seemed to be complimenting Nicole but was actually adding fuel to the fire. Women dress up for those they want to impress, and Nicole's careful dressing up wasn't for Dean but for Percy.

This tactic of fanning the flames was something Aurora learned from Nicole.

Dean's face turned even darker when he heard this.

He had never seen Nicole dress up so beautifully before.

Coming out to meet a man, she dressed up so meticulously.

Seeing Aurora, Nicole was very surprised. "What are you doing here?"

Aurora smiled, "I had a dinner date with Dad. Aunt Clark, I didn't expect you to be here too. Since you and Dad are having a romantic evening, I won't disturb you. I can have dinner with Dad another day."

"It's you, you wretched girl. You set me up," Nicole realized and gritted her teeth in hatred.

"Set you up? I don't understand. Oh, Aunt Clark, your mouth is bleeding," Aurora feigned confusion and looked at Dean. "Dad, are you having a disagreement with Aunt Clark?"

Nicole's eyes were fierce. "Stop pretending, Aurora. You wretched girl, I..."

Nicole raised her hand to hit Aurora.

But Aurora wouldn't let Nicole hit her.

Aurora caught Nicole's hand and whispered coldly so only the two of them could hear, "I don't mess with people unless they mess with me. I warned you, if you provoke me again, you'll bear the consequences."

Aurora wasn't afraid of Nicole knowing she had planned this. Nicole would find out sooner or later.

A cornered rabbit will bite.

"You, you, you..." Nicole's face twisted in anger.

The commotion had already drawn the attention of people from other rooms. Dean's anger flared up even more.

"Enough, isn't this embarrassing enough?" Dean's face was dark as he glanced at the room next door and grabbed Nicole's hand. "Get back home and stop making a scene."
