Chapter 387: Chickened Out

The sneer cut through the air, especially eerie in the cemetery's silence.

Oren glanced warily to the side, his eyes landing on a man about 15 feet away.

The man was dressed in a black cloak and wore a black mask, revealing only his eyes, which added to his air of mystery.

The man had his hands in his pockets, leaning against a tombstone, one leg half-bent, exuding a rebellious and nonchalant attitude.

This demeanor was very much like a guy on the street whistling at pretty girls.

"Black Hawk, our cooperation is over." Oren voiced emotionlessly, then put on his hat, ready to leave.

Black Hawk was just the man's code name; Oren only knew him as Black Hawk, now the leader of the Ironclad Union, and nothing else, not even having seen his face.

Wolfpack had previously been split between Christopher and Robert, but Black Hawk suddenly emerged, quickly consolidating Wolfpack and renaming it Ironclad Union.

To Oren, Black Hawk was not only mysterious but also extremely dangerous, and staying away was the best strategy.

Black Hawk straightened up, his gaze piercing as he stared at Oren. "Our cooperation isn't over. Sandra not only failed to burn John to death but almost burned Aurora. This is completely different from our agreement. Who told you to set the fire?"

"What more do you want?" Oren was annoyed, "Sandra is already dead, her body is buried here. I don't care how you fight with John, it has nothing to do with The Shadow of Darkness organization, and I won't be involved anymore."

"Coward." Black Hawk moved swiftly, and before Oren could react, he was already in front of him, grabbing his collar: "Useless waste, dare to play tricks on me, dare to hurt her, then you're out."

A cold glint flashed in Oren's eyes—it was a knife.

Black Hawk wanted to kill him.

Oren's face changed dramatically, and he kicked at Black Hawk, who countered with a punch to Oren's chest.

Oren took two steps back, noticing a stone at his feet, and without hesitation, he threw it at Black Hawk.

Dust scattered, blowing into Black Hawk's eyes, making him instinctively raise his hand to shield his eyes.

Oren took the opportunity to limp away, disappearing in no time.

Black Hawk lowered his hand, scanning the surroundings, but there was no one in sight.

Suddenly, a rush of blood surged, causing a sharp pain in his chest. Black Hawk leaned against the tombstone, coughing violently for a long time before recovering.

The Lewis Villa.

In Lloyd's room.

Lloyd, not in good health, was lying in bed, resting under a blanket.

"Grandpa, how about I take you to Peach Blossom Mountain for some R&R? The air's fresh, it's peaceful, and Glenn can keep you company."

"That old guy hasn't left the mountain in years, living alone up there, quite leisurely." Lloyd snorted, throwing a little tantrum: "Peach Blossom Mountain sounds alright, but you gotta let Summer and Loren accompany me for a while. Without those two little ones, I'd miss them like crazy."

"They probably can't accompany you to Peach Blossom Mountain." John organized Lloyd's pills and passed them over. "I'm thinking of sending them to the island in the next couple of days."

Lloyd was startled, "Why suddenly send them to the island? Now that Sandra is dead, who would dare target them?"

Sending them to the island would make it hard to see them.

"As parents, we can't protect them forever. This is also what the two kids want." John remarked, "We still have two little ones at home, and Aurora can't handle everything on her own. Sending the older two to the island would be more reassuring."

Lloyd, thinking about how the kids had been targeted several times recently, was also worried.

The higher the Lewis family rose, the more they were targeted.

Lloyd sighed, hesitating before asking, "John, what about Wade? Any results?"

John's brows furrowed coldly, and after a moment of contemplation, he repleid, "He got twenty years."

"Twenty years?" Lloyd's spirit seemed to collapse: "Twenty years, his life is over."

Wade was now in his thirties, and after twenty years in prison, he'd be over fifty when he got out.

Lloyd found it hard to accept but didn't plead with John.

Wade had made a grave mistake this time, and if he were let off lightly, who knows what trouble he'd cause next.

Lloyd asked despondently: "No news on Rex?"

John shook his head: "Grandpa, it's getting late. You should rest early. I'll take you to Peach Blossom Mountain tomorrow."

"Alright, you arrange it."

Lloyd didn't want to worry about anything anymore. He was old, and it was time to let go. His descendants would have their own ways.

The next moring, John took Lloyd to Peach Blossom Mountain, while Aurora stayed home with the kids.

Summer and Loren didn't go to school anymore, and the plan to go to the island was all set.

Loren was also happy to go, and Aurora had no objections this time.

Relatively speaking, the island was much safer and offered a lot for the kids to learn.

With everything settled, Aurora still felt uneasy. She had nightmares at night, dreaming of Sandra burning all over, cursing her with a terrifying and hideous face.

The dreams felt very real.

That day, Aurora was napping with the kids when she had another nightmare. The phone ringing woke her up, and she sat up to calm herself.

Trey and Jax were still asleep. Aurora carefully took her phone and went outside the room to answer.

The video call was from Lori.

"Aurora, do you miss me? Ava and I are on vacation at the beach."

In the video, Lori was lounging under a sunshade in a bikini, sipping coconut juice, looking very relaxed.

In the distance, there were handsome guys and pretty girls were playing beach volleyball, with the blue sky meeting the light blue sea, creating a stunning and refreshing scene.

Ava was being chatted up by a handsome guy.

Ice queen Ava didn't even give him a glance.

Aurora brushed her bangs aside and smiled lightly, "You two ran off quickly. When are you coming back?"

"We're planning to play for a few months. It's rare to give ourselves a long vacation. Ava and I also plan to see the aurora and take a few gigs to earn some extra cash. Doing our old job is still the most comforting."

Lori had her schedule packed for the next six months.

It sounded like  she really didn't plan to come back anytime soon.

Aurora leaned on the railing, casually saying: "You've worked hard for so long, it's time to relax. Looks like you'll miss Todd's engagement party."

"Engagement party?"

Lori almost choked on her coconut juice, "Aurora, say that again, whose engagement party?"

"Todd's." Aurora replied, "He's not getting any younger, long past the age for marriage. His family is pushing him, so he went on a few dates, found a suitable one, and got engaged right away. The Smith family is eager for grandchildren. But Todd said, since he's your man, you have the first right to marry him. If you don't come back, it'll be considered as giving up."

"Really?"

Lori was so happy she sat up from the lounge chair: "I give up! Finally getting rid of Todd without any responsibility, it's too good to be true. Aurora, if Todd gets engaged, prepare a big gift for me. After all, he was with me before, so don't be too stingy, just make it six figures, $660,000."

Aurora was speechless.

Aurora turned her head and saw someone standing at the staircase, her heart skipped a beat. She had the speaker on.

"Aurora? why aren't you talking? No signal? Frozen?"

Lori was holding her phone, trying to find a signal. Aurora's side was a still image. A few seconds later, the image moved, and Aurora pointed the camera at the staircase, letting Lori see for herself.

Lori saw Todd's dark expression suddenly appear in the video and was so startled she almost dropped her phone.

"Aurora, I think my signal is bad. I can't hear you. The signal is really bad. I'll hang up now."
