Chapter 285 I'm busy right now
As Aurora sat in front of the TV and watched John smile on the screen, she muttered, "So cheesy."
"I think it's cheesy too!" Lori's voice suddenly came from behind, startling Aurora.
Aurora glanced back at Lori, "You, as a manager, got up too late. Summer and Loren have already gone to work."
"Today, I'm giving myself a break. I've been doubling as both an agent and a bodyguard, yet I only get paid for one job. It's such a raw deal." Lori flipped over the couch, sitting cross-legged on it, and stared at John on the television. She asked, "Aurora, how did you manage to find such a trustworthy husband."
It was the first time Lori envied Aurora.
"This is the good fortune I've accumulated over several lifetimes," Aurora said, both proud and smug.
Hearing this, Lori immediately got up. "I'm heading out!"
Aurora asked, "You're not having breakfast?"
Lori waved her hand behind her back. "You two are too lovey-dovey; I can't eat at all."
"Where are you going?" Aurora asked, craning her neck.
Lori turned back and threw a flirtatious glance at Aurora. "Mr. Jennings asked me out."
So, it was a date. No wonder Lori dressed a bit more ladylike today.
John came back very suddenly; Kevin and his wife only found out John was back when they saw the interview.
After the interview, John drove to pick up Aurora, and Ashley was reluctant to let her go.
Kevin pulled John aside and asked him, "Is everything resolved?"
John had previously said it was serious, and Kevin had been worried, fearing that John might end up in jail one day.
"It's all good now." John smiled. "Kevin, thank you for taking care of Aurora and the kids during this time."
"As long as it's all good." Kevin breathed a sigh of relief and encouraged, "You're still young. Starting over is not a problem."
Kevin was afraid John might lose his spirit, given the huge fall from grace, from a golden boy to an ordinary person, which was not something everyone could handle.
"Thanks for the encouragement," John said, "By the way, my new company is having its grand opening next month. You must come if you have time."
Kevin asked, "What do you intend to run?"
Kevin didn't know that John had already paid off all his debts.
"Everything, mainly the internet." John glanced at Aurora and the kids already in the car and said, "Kevin, we have to go now."
"Alright, drive safely." Kevin thought John had just started a small company from scratch, until later he realized John's starting point was a level many might never reach in their lifetime, and he was shocked.
It turned out that the commercial titan, the Lewis family, did not collapse. After a brief reshuffle, it had risen even higher.
Kevin sometimes wondered if the Lewis family's bankruptcy was just a ploy by John.
Only someone with such courage, willing to burn bridges and make a comeback, could be John.
This also destined John to be a business legend.
But that was a story for another time.
John took Aurora back to the Lewis family mansion; Lloyd and Helen were also brought back that afternoon.
Todd personally went to pick them up.
When Todd arrived, Aurora was changing the baby's diaper. Not seeing Lori, he casually asked, "Mrs. Lewis, where's Lori?"
"She went on a date." Aurora didn't even look up and said, "She left in the morning and hasn't come back all day."
Todd asked, "With whom?"
"That Allan," Aurora looked up at Todd. "Why are you asking so many questions?"
Todd smirked, looking incredulous. "Mrs. Lewis, you must be joking. Who is Allan? It's a miracle he hasn't arrested Lori yet, let alone date her. Are you sure it's not an interrogation, followed by a few days in custody, and then a ten-year sentence?"
To be honest, Lori's past activities had somewhat skirted the edge of the law, and Allan was a cop. It was impossible for them to date, right?
"Lori said Mr. Jennings wants her to join them. They're expanding and need people. With Lori's skills, it should be easy for her to get hired." Aurora said, "As for what you mentioned, I guess they haven't found out what Lori used to do, since she rarely operated domestically."
Todd still asked in disbelief, "Really?"
"What else do you think?" Aurora thought of something, kept a straight face, and deliberately said, "Mr. Jennings is ruggedly handsome and incredibly sexy. When Lori told me about him, I almost drooled. Mr. Jennings fits Lori's aesthetic perfectly. She might have been overwhelmed by his looks and agreed on impulse."
Aurora added, "These are Lori's exact words. Lori isn't young anymore. If she chooses to be a cop, Mr. Jennings is indeed a good choice."
Knowing Lori's taste, Todd couldn't help but comment, "I don't know what she went through in her childhood to have such a twisted sense of aesthetics."
"Todd, you don't understand women. Ninety-nine percent of women like men with a sense of strength." Aurora rolled her eyes and added, "I am also fond of men who are both handsome and have eight-pack abs. Those muscles must feel great to touch.""
"Aurora!"
John's chilling voice came from behind.
Aurora turned to meet John's resentful eyes and thought, 'Oh no, I've brought trouble upon myself.'
Aurora smiled brightly and handed Trey to John "You hold him. As my back hurts, I'm going upstairs to lie down."
With that, Aurora quickly slipped away.
The hall was left with just John and Todd.
John said, "If you have nothing to do, go and..."
"Mr. Lewis, I'm busy. I have to go." Todd also slipped away.
The hall was left with John holding Trey. John looked down at his drooling son and muttered, "Trey, actually, Daddy's abs feel pretty good too."
After leaving the Lewis family mansion, Todd drove for a while, feeling distracted. He pulled over to the side of the road, as if he had thought of something, then he took out his phone, found a number, and called.
The call was quickly answered, and Todd adjusted his posture, casually saying with a smile, "Hey, let's hang out. It's been a while since we got together."
The person on the other end was Allan.
Allan coldly refused, "No time!"
"Are you on a date with some beauty?" Todd was probing, and just as he finished speaking, he heard Lori's voice from the other end.
"Mr. Jennings, this feels nice..."
After the call was hung up, Todd's mind was filled with Lori's words. Thinking of what Aurora had said, Todd called again. Allan picked up the phone and stated, "I'm busy right now!" Then Allan hung up again.
Todd couldn't help but say to the hung-up phone, "Damn it, that fierce woman got seduced so quickly."
