Chapter 83 The Final Warning

Aurora instantly recognized the guy in the car. He was the one with the gun she had run into at the cemetery last time.

He looked at her, smiling suddenly, then got out of the car, walked up to her, and said politely, "Aurora."

Did this guy know her?

Was he here for her?

"You are?" Aurora steadied herself, not mentioning their previous encounter.

Besides, she didn't know him at all.

The man smiled, "Richard Lee. You can call me Uncle Lee. I was a friend of your mother's."

"My mother's friend?" Aurora had no memory of himat all. Her mom had passed away early, and even when she was alive, Aurora rarely saw her with friends.

How could a guy with a gun know her mom?

"I've never seen you before," Aurora said.

Richard smiled, "I haven't seen your mother in over twenty years. I only recently found out she passed away and that she had a daughter, so I came to see you."

Coming all this way to visit a deceased friend's daughter? Their relationship must have been special.

Aurora's first thought was, could he have been her mom's crush?

"Aurora, can we have a meal together?" Richard asked, a hint of hope in his voice. "My flight leaves in three hours, and I'd like to have a meal with you before I go. You look a lot like your mother."

For some reason, Aurora couldn't resist his gaze and nodded.

Richard beamed. "I've already booked a restaurant. Let's go."

Aurora couldn't refuse and followed him.

In the large private room, it was just Richard and Aurora.

Richard enthusiastically served her food. "Aurora, eat up. Your mother used to love grilled salmon."

"You know my mom liked grilled salmon?"

Their relationship was definitely unusual. Aurora asked, "Uncle Lee, were you my mom's secret admirer?"

Richard laughed heartily and shook his head. "You have quite the imagination. Your mother and I were best friends, nothing more."

So it wasn't that.

"Sorry, I misunderstood." Aurora smiled and continued eating.

Richard didn't eat much; he mostly watched Aurora eat.

"Aurora, was your mom happy with Dean?"

Thinking of her mom, Aurora felt a pang of sadness. "I think she was happy. She loved to smile, and when she did, she looked especially pretty and gentle."

In Aurora's memory, her mom was always elegant and quiet, keeping the house in perfect order and planting beautiful flowers in the yard, which looked lovely in spring.

When Dean's company faced difficulties, her mom could handle both the household and the company's affairs, helping Dean's career thrive while keeping the home in perfect order.

In Aurora's eyes, her mom was perfect.

However, such a perfect person was betrayed by Dean. Aurora didn't know if her mom knew about Dean's affair with Nicole before she passed away.

Aurora also couldn't understand why her beautiful, gentle, and virtuous mom would fall for Dean.

Richard sighed, "Your mom did have a beautiful smile. It's been over twenty years, and I never expected to hear she had passed away."

As Richard talked, his eyes became moist.

It wasn't an act, and Aurora was very curious.

She knew nothing about her mom's past, and Dean never mentioned it.

"Uncle Lee, how did you know my mom?"

Richard avoided the question and smiled, "Aurora, eat more. Once I leave, I don't know when I'll be back."

Aurora wisely didn't press further.

After the meal, Aurora stood at the restaurant entrance to see Richard off.

Richard walked a few steps, then turned back and took out a necklace. "Aurora, this belonged to your mother. It should be yours."

"Belonged to my mother?"

Aurora examined the necklace in her hand. The pendant was a unique design—a cat's head with a snake's body, giving off a mysterious vibe.

"Keep it safe. Your mother left it with me years ago. Now it's time to return it to its rightful owner."

Richard got into the car, waved to Aurora, and told the driver, "To the airport."

Richard was in a good mood.

"Mr. Lee, did you give the necklace to Miss White?"

"I can't be at ease leaving her alone in Silver Crest City. With the necklace, if she ever gets into trouble, it might protect her."

"Mr. Lee, you are so thoughtful for Miss White."

Aurora put the necklace around her neck. Since it was her mother's keepsake, she naturally had to take good care of it.

She checked the time; it was already time for work, so she hurried to the office.

As soon as she sat down at her computer, Linda came over. "Aurora, Mr. Lewis is at the office."

Why wasn't John continuing his recovery? What was he doing at the office?

His leg was almost crippled; how could it heal so quickly?

All afternoon, Aurora was a bit distracted. Thinking about her past relationship with John, her boss, she felt like a dream.

Dean's revelation about Nicole's affair was spreading online, and her colleagues were gossiping about it. But when Aurora approached, they wisely fell silent or changed the subject.

In the CEO's office.

John sat in a wheelchair; this time, his leg was truly crippled, and he had to use a wheelchair.

"Tell me, why did you take the car to the junkyard? Who are you covering for?"

John's expression was serious.

Lucas didn't dare look John in the eye and said with a forced smile, "Bro, I don't know what you are talking about? The car was hit and scrapped, so I had it taken away. It's just a car. You can't be that stingy."

"Lucas." John slammed the desk in anger, his expression cold. "Who messed with the car? Don't make me ask a second time."

John had someone investigate the car's brake failure and found out that Lucas had disposed of the car in advance.

Lucas could protect him, and John could guess who it was with his eyes closed.

"Bro, I, you..." Lucas's eyes flickered, and he stammered.

"John, don't blame him. It was me." Sandra pushed the door open and entered. "I originally just wanted to teach Linda a lesson. Who knew she would send Aurora to Peach Blossom Mountain, and you went with her? John, I know I was wrong. I didn't predict things would get so bad. How's your injury?"

Sandra was smart, using Linda as a scapegoat. She naturally wouldn't admit she was targeting Aurora.

"Why are you in the office?" John's eyes narrowed deeply, his tone icy. "When did you come back?"

"I've been back for a while. I wanted to give you a surprise." Sandra smiled and took John's hand, her face showing a shy, girlish expression. "John, I missed you. You haven't visited me for a long time, so I had Lucas help me get into the office."

John's eyes turned cold as he looked at Lucas, who lowered his head.

"Go back immediately." John pulled his hand away, a cold light flashing in his deep eyes.

"I don't want to go back. I want to stay. John, don't be mad. I really know I was wrong this time. I just wanted to teach Ms. Simmons a lesson. Please forgive me for my sister's sake. I'll take care of you every day as my punishment, okay?" Sandra clung to John's hand, acting cutely.

"If it weren't for your sister, I'd send you to the police right now." John gripped Sandra's hand, his tone icy. "I'm warning you, if you dare do anything harmful to Aurora again, don't blame me for being ruthless. Now get out."

John wasn't a fool; he wouldn't believe Sandra's lie about teaching Linda a lesson.

Sandra was stunned, tears of grievance streaming down her face. "John, my sister lost her life for you, and now you're yelling at me for Aurora. How can you face my sister?"
