Chapter 448 Knowing That One's Life Is Short

Aurora instinctively turned around, but before she could say anything, Jack suddenly grabbed her hair and slammed her head against the wall.

"Listen up, stop meddling. If you keep him from doing what he wants, don't blame me for what happens next."

"Are you... the other Jack?" Aurora's scalp burned with pain. The Jack in front of her had a murderous look in his eyes, making her heart race with fear.

"As long as I'm here, no one can mess with him. We're the closest in this world. If you know what's good for you, stay away from him, and I might let you live."

Aurora tried to pry Jack's hand off, but his grip was like a vice, unmovable.

Aurora glared at Jack. "If you keep going down this path, it won't end well for you. This isn't helping him; you're destroying him. Leave his body immediately."

"As his sister, how can you say such things?" Jack sneered. "Where were you when he was being bullied? Do you know what he wants? What are his wishes? Do you know how much pain he felt losing an arm? You don't. You're not fit to be his sister."

Aurora snapped, "Enough! What did you inject into Lori?"

"Guess," Jack laughed maniacally. "Let me count the days. She has less than three months, right? She deserves to die, watching her father suffer without lifting a finger. Cold and heartless, she doesn't deserve to live."

"You're insane," Aurora spat. "Tell me, what did you inject into Lori?"

"I won't tell you. I'll let you watch that bitch die slowly. If you meddle again, her fate will be yours."

With that, Jack released Aurora and ran off.

"Jack!"

Aurora immediately chased after him, but Jack had already escaped through the emergency exit.

"Aurora, what's going on?"

Ava returned, carrying a bag of fruit.

Aurora shook her head. "Jack was here, but he ran off."

Ava didn't know about Jack's split personality, and Aurora wasn't ready to explain it just yet.

Ava asked, "Is Lori in her room?"

"Yeah, she's resting. Ava, there's something you need to know about Lori. Her test results came back with issues."

"What kind of issues?" Ava's face tightened with worry.

"Mr. Collins said Lori has a severe virus. If a cure isn't found within three months, Lori might... die."

Ava dropped the fruit she was holding.

Aurora didn't notice that their conversation was overheard by someone else.

Todd couldn't sleep and wandered out of his room to play in the hallway. Though he was mentally challenged, he recognized Aurora and wanted her to play with him. He overheard their conversation.

Todd didn't understand what death meant.

He scratched his head and returned to his room. Lori woke up from her nap and, not seeing Todd, was about to look for him when he came back.

"Why are you alone? Where's the other pretty lady?"

Lori was referring to Aurora.

In Todd's mind, any pretty woman was a "pretty lady."

Todd pouted, looking confused, and asked, "Fairy, what does 'die' mean?"

"Die means gone, disappeared from this world," Lori replied, curious. "Why are you asking? Don't worry, you're just not right in the head, but you won't die."

"Gone? Disappeared?"

Todd started bawling and hugged Lori tightly. "I don't want you to die. Don't die."

Lori was silent.

"You're the one who's going to die. I'm perfectly fine. Don't curse me."

Todd cried harder. "The other lady told Ava you're going to die. I don't want you to die."

Lori was puzzled but pieced together the relationships Todd mentioned.

The other lady was Aurora.

In other words, Aurora told Ava she was going to die.

She was going to die, going to die...

Those words echoed and magnified in Lori's mind.

She wasn't truly stupid. Thinking it over, she realized Gary must have found something.
