Chapter 317: John Stands Alone Against Thousands

Aurora watched Lori climb, but she couldn't make a sound to stop her. If she alerted the people in the police station, it would be a disaster.

Aurora was anxious. As Barry and the others drove away in the police car, she quickly ran over.

"Mrs. Lewis?" Todd was surprised to see Aurora.

"Don't make a fuss, Lori went in." Aurora ran towards the police station, thinking she had to stop Lori quickly.

Todd also ran in. The station was quiet, with only the duty officer present.

They split up to search.

Half an hour later, Aurora and Todd hadn't found anyone and met up again at the front door.

They didn't want to cause a scene, so they had to keep searching quietly.

"Mrs. Lewis, this is bad," Todd said. "If she gets caught, there's no going back."

Todd had seen the news online and rushed back in a hurry.

Lori and Ava had been friends for over ten years. With Ava in trouble, Lori wouldn't leave her alone. Todd guessed Lori would come here, and luckily he arrived just in time. But in the blink of an eye, she was gone.

"No commotion yet, maybe there's still a chance."

As soon as Aurora finished speaking, a voice came from above.

"How did you two get in?"

Aurora and Todd looked up in unison. Lori was standing on a tree.

They looked around and quickly ran out.

Aurora lowered her voice, "Lori, come down quickly."

Todd added, "Ava's not here, they've moved her."

Lori jumped down from the tree and quickly walked to Todd's side. "Where did they move her?"

Todd shook his head, "I don't know. I didn't get a chance to ask. I was in a hurry to find you."

"Let's get in the car and talk somewhere else." Aurora was nervous. Standing at the police station entrance, she felt unsafe.

Half an hour later, the three of them arrived at a café. Lori said to Todd, "Find out where they're holding Ava. If you have to, use your charm on Allan. He definitely knows."

Aurora couldn't help but think of John, whom she had sent away, when she heard the word "charm."

That's what sisters are for; they think alike.

Todd glanced at Aurora out of the corner of his eye, feeling a bit guilty.

He was afraid Aurora would expose his relationship with Allan.

Todd coughed awkwardly and said, "This is not easy..."

Lori interrupted him urgently, "Todd, if you can save Ava, I'll agree to anything, even three hundred things."

The offer was tempting.

But...

"Lori, it's not about agreeing or not. This is really difficult."

"Damn it!" Lori swore. "I've already made deals with the devil. What more do you want? Don't push me. If you push me, I'll do anything."

Todd was speechless. Was he the force of evil?

Aurora advised, "Lori, don't panic. We haven't figured this out yet. It might not be as bad as you think."

"It's all my fault that Ava got involved. She was threatened by Richard to help." Lori's voice was filled with guilt.

If something really happened to Ava, she would risk everything to save her.

Todd tried to reassure Lori., "This is a place of law, but also a place of sentiment. Lori, take it easy and don't get stuck. Let's wait a bit."

Lori didn't speak and took a big sip of her coffee.

On Peach Blossom Mountain, John and Glenn Bates were playing chess in the main room. The whole village had only a few households, all closed up and asleep, making it very quiet.

Glenn asked, "What brings you here today?"

"The mountain is quiet, good for healing." John placed a chess piece with his right hand.

"You're marrying Aurora on June 6th. The day is approaching." Glenn asked, "Why are you alone? Where's Aurora?"

"She's at home." John replied, placing a chess piece. "On June 6th, I'll send someone to pick you up for the wedding."

Glenn smiled, "Good, good. When I first saw Aurora, I knew you two were meant to be. I've never been wrong about people."

John smiled at the mention of Aurora's name, "Meeting her has been the greatest blessing of my life."

"Treasure it." Glenn sighed, "Life is short, just a hundred years if we're lucky. After this life, who knows if you'll meet again in the next."

A chess piece fell heavily. John was confident, "If there really is a next life, we are destined to be together forever."

Glenn smiled with satisfaction. In this flashy world, few people pursue love to the extreme, seeking the eternal and elusive happiness.

Glenn looked at the chessboard, "I lost. Next time I have a chance, I'll go to the city and play chess with your grandfather. It's been a long time since we played, and he hasn't come to see me."

There was a hint of resentment in Glenn's voice.

"My grandfather misses you a lot and often talks about you." John reassured him.

Glenn was pleased to hear this, "It's late. I'm old and can't stay up. Go tidy up the guest room yourself."

"Okay!"

John watched Glenn go to rest and walked to the door with his cane.

John looked around and spoke to the night, "We will have important guests tonight. Keep watch."

Sam and Tyler were concealed in the darkness.

"Mr. Lewis, we'll guard the village entrance." Tyler whispered.

There was only one road into the mountain, the main route.

John nodded, and in the night, they darted to the village entrance.

Anyone who spotted them would have been taken aback.

Since John came to Peach Blossom Mountain today, he couldn't just take Sandra back.

As the clock struck twelve, the wind picked up. John sat in the main room, playing chess with himself.

The sound of a car came from the village entrance.

John remained calm, continuing his game. About twenty minutes later, the courtyard door was kicked open.

A group of people stood at the door, all looking hostile.

Leading them was Oren.

Aurora had revealed John's schedule, not attracting Sandra but Oren instead.

John looked up indifferently, "Not everyone is here."

Oren stepped in, "John, you're alone here. How sure are you that you can escape from me today?"

Oren entered, followed by over thirty people.

John placed a chess piece, stood up with his cane, and shot Oren a sharp look, "How are you so sure I'm alone?"

John's calmness made Oren uncertain.

John was a legend. If he didn't know John was alone, he wouldn't dare come.

Oren looked around warily, "John, don't scare me."

John smirked, "I am scaring you."

"John." Oren was furious, "You're a cripple. Do you think you can take on all of us?"

Oren barked an order "Get him. Anyone who punches John gets a million dollars. A million bucks to anyone who lands a punch on John. Ten million if you cripple him."

With such a reward, there would be brave men.

"Everyone, go!"

Someone shouted, and the crowd rushed forward excitedly. But before they reached John, they all came to a sudden halt, their eyes widening at what John was holding.

Some stopped so quickly that they stumbled and fell forward, creating a comical scene.

One toppled onto another, and soon enough, a dozen men were kneeling at John's feet.
