Chapter 277 A Couple's Telepathy
Ava didn't know about the bet between the two, but from an outsider's perspective, it seemed like Lori had been duped.
Lori was quite upset. "I knew you had bad intentions."
"We're just playing fair and square." Todd said, glancing at the porridge that was brought over. "You drank so much; have some porridge to soothe your stomach."
Lori asked, "Did you drug the porridge?"
Lori didn't believe Todd would be so kind.
"If you're afraid to eat it, just throw it away," Todd said, "By the way, you can only handle eleven bottles of whiskey at most. Be more mindful when you drink outside in the future."
Todd left after saying that.
Lori, realizing what he meant, angrily said, "Ava, is he calling me careless? He's lecturing me now."
"Drink some porridge first. Aren't you afraid of getting drunk and taken advantage of after you drink so much?" Ava was usually at ease with Lori going out with Todd because Lori had never gotten into trouble over the years. No matter how reckless, Lori wouldn't be foolish enough to get herself drunk.
But Lori returned utterly inebriated this time.
Lori laughed. "Don't worry; Todd can't do anything to me even if I'm drunk. Do you think I'm really that stupid?"
Ava said, "Actually, he does care about you. As soon as you woke up, he immediately brought porridge. You can tell the porridge was timed perfectly, and he even reminded you about your drinking limit..."
Lori was a bit infurious. "Shut up, Ava. Why are you speaking for Todd? Have you been bribed?"
Ava patiently explained, "Aurora married John, and Todd is with John in Nightfall. We'll inevitably have to deal with Todd in the future. You two can't argue every time you meet."
Lori said, "Aurora is Aurora; Todd is Todd. They're two different things, Ava. How can you mix them up?"
Ava thought it was best not to argue further.
Ava said, "Just eat the porridge. Didn't you say you were going to the hospital to see Aurora?"
Aurora had recovered a bit after a night's rest.
Helen brought some food and went back to make soup for Aurora; while John was taking care of feeding the baby and changing diapers.
Aurora leaned against the headboard, watching John change the baby's diaper, feeling an indescribable happiness. John was getting more skilled at it.
Aurora advised, "John, why don't you go take care of your own business? Mom and Ashley are here; you don't need to worry about me."
After all, they had just declared bankruptcy, and there must be many things waiting for John to handle.
Aurora understood that since the baby was born, it was time to let John handle his own affairs.
After John finished changing the diaper and preparing the formula, he said, "Alright, call me if you need anything."
Ashley said from the side, "Go take care of your business. I'll stay with Aurora."
Ashley and Helen took turns caring for Aurora in the hospital. After the Lewis family went bankrupt, the Robinson family stood by them, which reassured John that he hadn't misjudged them.
As John was leaving the hospital, he ran into Kevin at the entrance.
Kevin said, "If you have any difficulties, let me know. No need to be courteous with me."
"Kevin, I actually do have something to discuss with you," John said, looking at Kevin.
Kevin asked, "What is it?"
John said, "Let's talk in the car."
Kevin nodded, "Alright."
They both got into Kevin's car. The driver got out and waited outside, leaving the two of them alone in the car.
John said, "Declaring bankruptcy is just one step. There might be more trouble ahead. Kevin, if I end up in jail, I'll need you to take care of Aurora and the others."
Kevin was shocked. "Is it that serious? How did it come to this?"
"The Lewis family has been in trouble for a while. I kept the news under wraps because Aurora was pregnant. Now that the baby is born, the authorities will likely investigate soon." John remained calm. "Don't worry, it's just temporary. Everything will be fine soon."
"Really?" Kevin was skeptical, worried that John was hiding the truth and bearing the burden alone.
"Really," John said calmly. "No need to worry. I'll make a comeback soon."
Kevin pondered and said, "Tell me the truth, where exactly is the problem?"
John thought for a moment and said, "We lost core technology and had a traitor. Both the Lewis Group and Nightfall were affected."
Kevin said, "It seems the other side was well-prepared."
John patted Kevin's shoulder, looking composed. "Kevin, I'm entrusting Aurora to you. I need to go to Aetheria immediately. Keep this from Aurora for now."
Kevin agreed, "Alright, go ahead. I'll take care of things here."
After their discussion, John got out of the car and called Todd, "Proceed as planned. Don't mess up this time."
Todd said, "Don't worry, Mr. Lewis!"
Todd felt deeply guilty. If it weren't for his carelessness, Nightfall wouldn't have lost billions and several transport lines.
John needed to act quickly, or the massive debt would fall on Aurora.
That afternoon, John left for Aetheria. He went alone.
At the hospital, Lori and Ava arrived. They played it with the baby and found it quite fun.
Lori asked, "Aurora, where's John?"
"He's busy with his work," Aurora said, then looked at Ashley. "Ashley, can you get a nurse to bathe Trey and Jax?"
Aurora was trying to send Ashley away.
Ashley didn't catch on and smiled. "Sure, I'll go right away."
After Ashley left, Aurora asked to Lori, "Did you find anything in Aetheria these past few months?"
Lori replied, "No, I asked a lot of people, but there's no news about Jack."
"What's the situation over there now?" Aurora was very concerned. Although she wasn't involved in Nightfall's operations, Sam and Tyler hadn't returned for a long time, indicating that the root of the problem was in Aetheria.
"It's quite a mess," Lori remarked, "Respect is earned through power. Previously, Nightfall commanded such respect, but now they've suffered significant losses. The word on the street is that Nightfall is not what it used to be and its downfall is only a matter of time."
Aurora frowned, looking serious. "Lori, Ava, I need to ask you for a favor."
Lori understood the gravity of the situation, asking, "Aurora, what is it? Just say it."
"Go to Aetheria for me," Aurora said, "Since things are so terrible there, John will definitely go without telling me. You two go with him. No matter what happens, make sure he comes back safely."
