Chapter 365: Simply Too Exciting

This was an unfamiliar number, but John had a gut feeling it was Aurora on the other end.

Hearing John's voice, Aurora's emotions surged, "John, it's me!"

"Where are you? Are you hurt?" John couldn't wait to see Aurora. "I'm coming to find you right now."

He really never doubted her.

Aurora felt a warmth in her heart. She knew he believed her, and the news online was all deliberately spread by John.

"I'm at Shadowbrook Hills, John. I think I might have found Sandra's hideout."

Now wasn't the time for sentimentality; there was important business to attend to.

Aurora kept it brief, "I've been staying at Wade's place these past two days. I followed him to Shadowbrook Hills. He's here to meet Sandra, and Jax is with her."

"Okay, don't do anything rash. I'm on my way." John reminded her as he walked out, "Aurora, finding Jax is important, but your safety is just as important."

John kept repeating himself because he was worried Aurora might put herself in danger in her haste to find Jax.

"I know what I'm doing."

Neither of them wasted words.

After hanging up, Aurora said to Calla, "I'll borrow your phone for now and return it later. You can leave."

"Miss, what exactly are you up to?" Calla was utterly confused by the phone conversation. "You're not here to catch a cheater, are you?"

"Haven't you been following the news lately?" Aurora asked, "The youngest son of the Lewis family in Silvercrest City is missing. There's a ten-million-dollar reward for finding him. I'm the child's mother, and I'm looking for my son."

Calla was stunned into silence, incredulously looking Aurora up and down. "Wait, you're Mrs. Lewis? The lady of AJ Group? I know, I've seen the news. They say you killed your mother-in-law and are wanted because of it? You're even more beautiful in person than on TV; I didn't recognize you."

Calla's expression was exaggerated, "Oh my God, how lucky am I to run into the legendary Mrs. Lewis? I'm a fan of yours. You're my idol. I especially envy your romance with Mr. Lewis. It's so romantic. Mr. Lewis is famous for doting on his wife."

Aurora was bewildered.

She had fans?

She thought Calla must have selective memory. The internet was full of rumors about her and John falling out, with the couple supposedly at odds.

"Stop flattering me," Aurora spoke. "You should go. I need to find my son."

"I'm not leaving." Calla shook her head and suddenly asked with a greedy smile, "Mrs. Lewis, is that ten-million-dollar reward still valid?"

Aurora suddenly understood and laughed, "That ten million dollars won't be easy to earn. You might lose your life."

"Investments come with risks; I get that," Calla said. "If you run into trouble, I could be useful."

"No," Aurora insisted. "You should go. You've already helped me today, and I'll compensate you later."

Wade and Sandra were both capable of murder, and she didn't want to drag Calla into it.

Aurora only took Calla's phone to stay in touch with John. She walked along the path Wade had taken.

Aurora hadn't gone far when she noticed Calla following her again. She was annoyed, "Didn't I tell you to leave? Why are you still following me?"

"It'd be too heartless to leave now," Calla said. "I'm set on earning that ten million dollars. Don't back out."

Aurora rarely met someone so stubborn. She could tell that even if she refused, Calla would still follow.

"Then don't do anything reckless. If things go wrong, run," Aurora warned. "I can't be responsible if something happens to you."

"Don't worry, I won't drag you down," Calla said. "I know this area pretty well. I'll just show you the way."

The path was long, and after about twenty minutes, they came to a fork in the road.

Calla asked, "Which way?"

Aurora turned on the flashlight on her phone and looked at the ground. There were tire tracks on the left. "This way."

Along the way, Calla was very curious, "Who killed your mother-in-law?"

"Who took your child?"

"By the way, who was that man earlier? Did he take your child?"

"And were you talking to Mr. Lewis just now?"

Calla seemed to have a million questions, and Aurora's head was buzzing.

"By the way, the rumors say you and Mr. Lewis have fallen out, but from your phone conversation, it doesn't seem like it."

"Shut up," Aurora finally snapped, unable to take it anymore. This girl was really curious.

At that moment, Aurora suddenly noticed a car ahead. It was Wade's.

Aurora quickly turned off the flashlight.

The car was parked in front of an abandoned factory. Sandra must be inside.

Just as she thought that, Aurora heard a child's cry.

"Jax," Aurora called out excitedly, but she didn't dare shout loudly or rush in.

Because she saw Wade coming out of the abandoned factory and heading towards the car.

Aurora quickly pulled Calla to hide behind a nearby pile of grass.

Wade got closer and closer. Aurora held her breath, not daring to make a sound.

Aurora was just waiting for Wade to leave so she could sneak into the abandoned factory.

But just as Wade was about to open the car door and get in, Calla suddenly screamed.

A toad had jumped onto Calla's foot, scaring her into screaming.

Wade heard the noise and started walking towards them.

Aurora glared at Calla, who whispered apologetically, "Sorry, I'm terrified of toads."

It wasn't her fault; she couldn't help but scream.

"Who's there?"

Wade was already approaching. If they were discovered, it would alert Sandra, and John hadn't arrived yet. If Jax was moved, it would be even harder to find him.

Wade got closer and closer. Just as he was about to reach out and part the grass to check, Aurora couldn't wait any longer. She tackled Calla and whispered in her ear, "Quick, scream."

Calla was bewildered and hadn't reacted yet when Aurora pinched her, causing Calla to cry out in pain, "Ouch, be gentle..."

As soon as she said that, Calla realized what Aurora was doing.

Calla's eyes widened in shock. Two women in a grass pile, in the wild—this was too thrilling.

Wade heard a woman's cry. As an adult, he knew what was happening just by the sound and the rustling grass.

The grass pile blocked his view, so Wade couldn't see the people inside, only a woman's leg sticking out, which was Calla's.

Wade frowned and muttered, "How indecent," before walking away.

He didn't go far, and the car didn't start. Aurora didn't dare let her guard down. She signaled Calla to keep screaming and continued rustling the grass to create the illusion of "making love."

Calla cooperated with the screaming, feeling like she had lost her mind for going along with this.
