Chapter 332: A Brain-Saving Approach
Aurora curiously asked, "John, what do you think Lori would do if someone stole her first kiss?"
"She'd definitely kill him." John answered without hesitation.
Yeah, with Lori's temper, she'd probably kill the guy.
Especially since that person was Todd, whom she always disliked.
But strangely, Lori didn't give Todd any trouble, and the two of them acted like nothing happened. It was really odd.
Aurora looked at Todd on the plane and commented, "He seems to be doing just fine."
"You mean Todd?" John was also quite surprised.
He had been friends with Todd for many years and knew him well. Todd had no interest in women and even avoided them like the plague. Otherwise, the Nightfall brothers wouldn't joke that Todd liked men.
Aurora nodded, "Let's get on the plane. Whatever's going on between them, it's none of our business. Let's just enjoy the show."
This time, John didn't bring Summer; he only brought Sam and Tyler. Gideon and Lachlan had already gone to Aetheria the night before.
The trip would take about five to six hours.
"Aurora, have some fruit." John thoughtfully prepared a fruit salad for Aurora.
Lori got a bit of a craving, "John, you only made one? That's a bit too much favoritism."
Just then, Todd placed a bottle of milk in front of her, "Drink milk."
Everyone was stunned.
That sounded so misleading.
Lori glared at Todd, "You drink the milk."
She wasn't a kid who still needed milk.
"Fine, I'll drink it." Todd drank the milk himself, sitting in the back seat, leisurely enjoying the view of the blue sky and white clouds outside the window.
With both hands in casts, Todd placed the milk on the table, taking occasional sips.
Lori also looked out the window and muttered, "It's just clouds and more clouds. What's there to see?"
Todd replied, "For someone without an appreciation for art or beauty, there's probably nothing to see."
Seeing his annoying expression, Lori raised her hand in a mock gesture, "Do you believe I could slap you to death?"
"Tyler, protect me." Todd pulled Tyler over as a shield.
Tyler gave Lori a pained smile, "Ms. Hernandez, please go easy on me. I'm innocent here."
"Not fun," Lori withdrew her hand.
Next to them, Aurora and John acted as if they didn't see the commotion, continuing to show off their affection.
"Honey, you eat," Aurora fed a piece of fruit to John.
John ate it and then fed a piece to Aurora, "Sweetheart, you eat."
The three of them shivered, feeling extremely uncomfortable.
Lori and Todd couldn't help but speak at the same time.
"Can you consider the feelings of us single people?"
"Can you consider the feelings of us single people?"
Their rhythm and tone were surprisingly in sync.
Lori and Todd looked at each other in astonishment and spoke again in unison.
"You're copying me."
"You're copying me."
Lori pointed at Todd, gritting her teeth, but this time she didn't say anything.
Todd also fell silent, steering the conversation back to Aurora and John.
"Mr. Lewis, Mrs. Lewis, could you tone down the affection? We're about to throw up."
The couple, united in their response, spoke, "We like it."
Seeing Todd being rebuffed, Lori laughed heartily, "Haha, by the way, John, is your leg almost healed? I saw you moving pretty well just now."
John felt a sense of crisis, "Why do you ask?"
"John, don't be nervous. Just a routine concern," Lori smiled, "It shouldn't interfere with your wedding dance, right?"
See, she was up to no good.
Aurora kept her head down, eating her fruit salad without saying a word. John glanced at his wife, knowing he was on his own.
"It won't interfere." John repied.
"Then I'm relieved." Lori smiled.
They chatted and laughed along the way, napping when tired and eating when hungry.
Six hours later, they arrived in Aetheria, and the helicopter landed on an open field.
It was still several miles from the city.
Gideon and Lachlan had already driven over and were waiting.
With so many people, they took two cars.
To avoid drawing attention, they changed into local attire.
Lachlan asked, "Mr. Lewis, the hotel is ready. Should we go there directly, or...?"
"You take Aurora and Lori to the hotel first. Todd and I will go to the warehouse." John instructed, putting Todd in his car, clearly having other plans.
Todd looked dejected, "Mr. Lewis, I'm injured. I won't be of any use."
"Then I'll have Sam send you back to Silvercrest City immediately." John threatened.
Todd immediately deflated, "Fine, I'll go with you."
Nightfall's main business was also here. John had reclaimed several transport lines, so he had to check them out.
They were in a small town in Aetheria. Lori was familiar with the area and had impressive combat skills, so John felt comfortable leaving Aurora with her.
They split into two groups. Aurora sat in the car, shocked by what she saw along the way.
The streets were in a state of disrepair, littered with garbage With no public restrooms, people relieved themselves in the open, causing a foul stench.
Suddenly, a group of barefoot children came into view. They were dressed in rags, their faces dirty, begging for money and getting kicked away, then rummaging through trash cans for food.
Even finding half a piece of bread was like discovering a delicacy, and they fought over it.
Survival of the fittest.
They fought over half a piece of bread until they were bloody, while passersby were indifferent, acting as if they didn't see anything.
Aurora had been poor and hungry before, but seeing the lives of these people made her past struggles seem insignificant.
Aurora oredered, "Stop the car, Lachlan. Go buy some food and give it to those kids."
Lori stopped her, "Aurora, you can't help them all. You can help them once, but not for a lifetime. This country adds nearly a million orphans every year."
Maybe it was because she was a mother now, but Aurora couldn't stand seeing children suffer like this.
The child who first found the bread was beaten bloody, and the older kids ran off with the bread.
Aurora got out of the car, ignoring Lori's objections, and approached the child, "Don't be afraid, I'll take you to the hospital and get you something to eat, okay?"
As she reached out to the child, he suddenly got up and ran away, very wary.
"Aurora, let's go back to the hotel." Lori spoke, "This town is very unsafe. We should go back to the hotel."
"Okay."
Aurora couldn't calm down after what she had seen.
She knew her power was limited, but doing nothing wasn't in her nature.
This trip to Aetheria nearly changed her life.
Aurora got back in the car, and the three of them returned to the hotel, which was a stark contrast to the town—extremely luxurious.
A small town with such a stark divide.
Aurora looked at the opulent hotel and the people in luxurious clothes coming and going, unable to reconcile it with what she had just seen on the streets.
"Beautiful lady, how can I help you?" The hotel receptionist was a dark-skinned, but very beautiful woman who spoke the local language.
Lori didn't understand and asked Aurora, "Aurora, what language is she speaking?"
"You don't understand?" Aurora was surprised. Wasn't Lori familiar with this place?
How did she communicate if she didn't know the language?
"I don't understand. I only know English. Ava used to translate for me," Lori said, "To save time and effort, Ava learned Portuguese, German, and French, while I learned English."
Aurora suddenly felt very sympathetic towards Ava.
