Chapter 71 The Mastermind Behind the Car Accident

Leo clasped his hands together and apologized to Loren. "I admit defeat. I won't play pranks anymore. You should stop messing with me too, okay?"

Leo was almost on his knees.

He was no longer important to this family.

Kevin and Ashley had always wanted a sweet daughter, but due to health reasons, they had to give up trying for one.

Now that they had taken Aurora as their adopted daughter, Leo's status in their eyes had already eroded. With the addition of Loren, Leo's status plummeted.

The key issue was that Leo kept playing pranks. The last time, the frog didn't scare Loren at all, and the prank backfired as he was the one who ended up scaring himself half to death.

Loren cupped his face, casually tapped hischeeks, and smiled innocently.

"Uncle, as men, we can't be so spineless," Loren said earnestly, sighing deeply. "Uncle, you're in your twenties, doing nothing at home but freeloading. Don't you feel ashamed?"

Leo was stunned, anger rising in his chest, but it quickly subsided because what Loren said was true.

Leo had been spoiled since childhood, getting whatever he wanted, growing up arrogant and dismissive of others. No one dared to discipline him. Everyone around him flattered and pampered him.

After more than twenty years, he was unexpectedly taught a lesson by Loren.

"It's not like I wanted to be like this," Leo, not wanting to lose face, retorted. "I just haven't had the chance to prove myself."

Loren scoffed. "Uncle, I'm four and a half, not a three-year-old. Do you feel good lying to a kid?"

Leo said, "How am I lying to you? I have a master's degree and am fluent in three languages."

"The degree was bought, wasn't it?" Loren sneered. "Grandma and Grandpa work so hard, and you do nothing but eat, drink, and play. Aren't you ashamed?"

Leo was speechless.

His degree had indeed been bought.

"My family is so wealthy that I couldn't spend it all in a lifetime. What else can I do but eat, drink, and play?" he said.

Loren looked at him with disdain. "How pathetic."

Aurora wanted to check on Loren in the middle of the night but heard Leo and Loren's voices at the door.

Hearing Loren provoking Leo again, Aurora wanted to intervene but was suddenly pulled back by someone.

It was Ashley.

"Godmother."

Ashley shook her head, signaling Aurora to step aside for a talk.

Since moving into the Robinson family, Kevin and Ashley had treated Aurora and Loren very well. Aurora was aware of the conflict between Loren and Leo.

Loren was mischievous, and Leo often suffered.

But it was clear to everyone that Leo was being pranked by Loren, yet Ashley and Kevin never pointed it out and instead pampered Loren.

This puzzled Aurora.

Aurora apologized to Ashley, "Godmother, I'm really sorry. Loren can be so naughty."

Ashley smiled. "I know what you want to say, Aurora. We genuinely like Loren. He's very smart and sensible. I know about the pranks between him and Leo. Do you know why we haven't intervened?"

Aurora shook her head.

Ashley sighed with a smile. "Leo is our only son, so we've spoiled him since childhood, making him reckless and troublesome. Kevin and I can protect him now, but who will protect him after we're gone?"

Aurora understood. "You want Loren to change Leo."

"Yes, Leo is arrogant, while Loren is clever and quirky. He can curb Leo's temper. As you can see, Leo has already called for a truce. In over twenty years, this is the first time I've seen Leo bow his head to anyone."

Ashley was both happy and relieved. "The Robinson family business will eventually be handed over to Leo. If he continues to be idle, he'll be truly useless. Loren, at such a young age, knows how to care for us, but Leo never has. It's really our fault for raising Leo that way."

Loren was indeed very considerate and always thinking of others. Aurora remembered how Loren had stood up for her against Daniel, and her heart filled with warmth.

"Loren is really great. I can't imagine why his biological parents abandoned him," Aurora said, feeling a pang of sadness and heartache for Loren's previous life.

Ashley said, "Loren meeting you was a blessing."

The next day, at breakfast, Leo suddenly announced, "Dad, I want to go to your company to learn the ropes."

Kevin was reading the newspaper. Hearing Leo's initiative, he thought he had misheard and didn't react for a while.

Ashley, trying to contain her excitement, asked, "Son, are you sure about this? It's tough work."

"I'm serious about this." Leo looked at Kevin and said, "Dad, let me go."

Kevin was very pleased and said, "Alright, but if you're going just to have fun, forget it. Managing a company isn't easy, and as a newcomer, you can't expect special treatment. You'll start from the bottom."

"Managing a company isn't that hard." Leo glanced at Loren and then said to Kevin, "I won't let certain people look down on me."

Loren, who had been drinking milk, licked his lips. "Uncle, if you can't stick it out for three months, remember our agreement. A bet is a bet."

"Don't worry, it's just three months. What's so hard about that?" Leo snorted disdainfully.

As the heir to the Robinson family, what could be so hard about working for three months?

Leo's friend called. "Leo, come out and have some fun. There are beautiful women here."

Leo refused. "Don't invite me to these gatherings anymore. I'm going to work at my dad's company."

"Are you for real? You're going to work? Is the sun rising in the west? Stop joking.. We're all waiting for you." The person on the other end of the line sounded like he had heard the funniest joke ever.

Leo hung up on him.

Kevin and Ashley exchanged glances, realizing he was serious this time.

Secretly, Kevin and Ashley gave Loren a thumbs up.

Leo went to work that day, whileLoren went to the top-notch kindergarten Ashley had found for him.

Aurora, after a few days of rest, also returned to work.

As for John, there had been no further updates, and she couldn't reach Todd.

Aurora was often lost in thought, frequently staring blankly at her computer.

Linda noticed Aurora's distraction and asked, "Aurora, are you feeling unwell? Should I give you a few more days off?"

Everyone at the company knew about Aurora's near-fatal car accident on her way back from Peach Blossom Mountain.

"Ms. Simmons, there's no need for that. I probably just didn't rest well." Aurora steadied herself and changed the subject. "Ms. Simmons, has Mr. Lewis come to the office?"

"Mr. Lewis hasn't been here for several days," Linda said, "He doesn't come to the office often. Why?"

"No reason," Aurora said, smiling. "I'm going to the restroom."

"Okay." Linda reminded, "Take care of yourself."

"Thank you."

Aurora went to the restroom. Sandra, seeing Aurora heading there, put down what she was holding and was about to follow when she was suddenly pulled into a nearby office.

"Sandra, don't say I didn't warn you. John is already investigating the car accident. If you dare to go afterAurora again, you'll be sorry."
