Chapter 56 John Is Faking His Illness?

Aurora took advantage of her lunch break to contact a kindergarten online and called the principal to explain Loren's situation.

"A boy, just over four years old. Loren is very smart, Principal. How about I bring Loren over tomorrow for you to see him in person?"

It's really hard to get into public kindergartens these days. Aurora had been looking for several days and finally had to choose a private one.

Moreover, she realized that sending a child to school was a significant expense.

It seemed she needed to work even harder.

She was thinking of finding a kindergarten closer to her company, so she could drop Loren off in the morning and pick him up on her way home.

Aurora was chatting with the principal on the phone and didn't notice someone standing behind her.

Sandra passed by and heard Aurora mentioning something about a child, so she stopped out of curiosity.

'Could it be that Aurora really has a child?' Sandra thought.

The incident at the banquet had sparked a wave of discussion online. Although the police eventually clarified that it was Henry's slander and Aurora had exposed Henry's true nature at the party, where there's smoke, there's fire.

A strange light flashed in Sandra's eyes as she quietly left.

After finishing her call, Aurora went to the restroom and found it crowded with people touching up their makeup and fixing their clothes.

Curious, Aurora smiled and asked, "Is someone important coming? Everyone's touching up their makeup."

"Aurora, you don't know? Mr. Lewis is coming today," her colleague Diana said while applying lipstick, "Mr. Lewis hasn't been here for a long time. How can everyone not be excited?"

"Mr. Lewis? Which Mr. Lewis?"

There were several people from the Lewis family working at the company, so Aurora had to ask.

"Of course, the head of the Lewis family, Mr. John Lewis," Diana said, adjusting her clothes. "Aurora, take a look. Do I look beautiful today?"

'Mr. Lewis is coming?' Aurora thought.

Aurora was stunned. She had been with the company for a while but had never seen Mr. Lewis.

"Beautiful." Aurora wasn't lying. Diana had a baby face and a curvy figure, very popular with men.

But she didn't understand why everyone was so eager just because Mr. Lewis was coming to the company.

As she was thinking this, she heard Diana lower her voice and say, "Mr. Lewis is still unmarried, and I heard he doesn't even have a girlfriend. If Mr. Lewis takes a liking to someone, their status would rise quickly."

A man had a crippled leg and a ruined face, who wouldn't live long, and yet everyone was so eager to marry him?

Aurora said, "But I heard that Mr. Lewis was disfigured in a car accident and looks extremely ugly."

Indeed, he wasterrifyingly ugly.

Aurora's mind conjured up an image of a face covered in scars, giving her goosebumps.

Diana disagreed and said, "So what if he's ugly? Most handsome men are playboys. Ugly ones are safer."

"But I also heard that Mr. Lewis has a bad leg and is a cripple."

Diana said, "That's even better. You don't have to worry about him fooling around outside. He can stay home every day. How wonderful."

Aurora said, "I also heard that Mr. Lewis won't live long. Marrying him would mean being a widow."

"That would be even better. Marry into the Lewis family and inherit the estate directly."

Aurora was speechless.

Marrying Mr. Lewis had so many benefits.

Why hadn't she noticed before?

Diana sighed and said, "Aurora, you're different from us. You're Kevin's adopted daughter. You can easily marry a good man. But for us, finding a good man is too difficult."

To get into the headquarters of Lewis Group, one must be highly capable, and everyone had ambitions. Who would be content to work a mediocre job for a lifetime?

For women to elevate themselves, they either rely on themselves or on men.

Regardless of gender, finding someone wealthy and powerful could save decades of struggle.

Diana was determined to settle in Silvercrest City and live a good life by marrying into a wealthy family.

She had no background or status, and her greatest assets were her face and impressive figure.

Aurora didn't comment on Diana's values.

Her mind was filled with thoughts of finding a good school for Loren and where to take him for a good meal after work.

To be honest, she had been missing the child a bit since they parted in the morning, even though it had only been a few hours.

With the head of Lewis Group visiting the company, everyone was on high alert.

Aurora went to the break room to get some water and saw a group of senior executives surrounding John, who was sitting in a wheelchair, as they came in.

Even sitting, John exuded an undeniable aura of authority, regal and imposing, like a king commanding his realm.

Sam was pushing the wheelchair, and Lucas walked beside John, leading a grand procession.

Company employees made way for them.

Wade, upon hearing that John had come to the company, was surprised and immediately went downstairs to see.

Seeing John in a wheelchair, wearing a silver mask, Wade hurried over and asked, "John, what brings you here?"

What a question.

This company was under John's control, and Wade, a vice president, asked such a question as a guest questioning the host.

Lucas, hands in his pockets and a slight smile on his face, said, "Wade, what a question. Have you forgotten who the real boss of this company is?"

The tension was palpable from the moment they met.

Aurora sipped her water, her gaze falling on John in the wheelchair through the glass window.

Wade, feeling a bit embarrassed, said with a dark expression, "Lucas, you misunderstood me. I was concerned about John's health. I heard he hasn't been well lately, overworking himself to the point of exhaustion."

John's voice was cold as he spoke, "Thank you for your concern, Wade. I'm fine."

As soon as he finished speaking, he coughed violently.

He didn't look fine at all, as if he wouldn't last long.

Lucas, worried, asked, "John, are you okay?"

"I'm fine," John waved his hand dismissively.

Wade, seeing John's frail state, had a fleeting look of satisfaction in his eyes but maintained a concerned facade. "John, you should rest in the office. Let me push you."

"No need," John coldly refused.

"I'll do it," Lucas said, not giving Wade a chance. "You are a busy man. Leave this small task to me."

Lucas pushed John, bypassing Wade, and headed straight for the CEO's office.

As John's group moved away, Wade stood there, staring at John's back with a dark, menacing look.

Aurora could feel the cold tension even through the glass.

It seemed the rumors were true; John and Wade didn't get along.

John didn't get along with Rex either, so it was no surprise his relationship with Wade wasn't any better.

Aurora took another sip of water, watching John's group disappear, and furrowed her brows.

When they had escaped together, John had run faster than her, without even panting, not at all like someone who was sick. His physical condition was better than hers.

If John's leg injury was fake, could his illness also be fake?
