Chapter 289 The Clown Turns Out to Be Myself

Aurora turned around, and there stood Emily, haughtily.

Emily was adorned in designer brands from head to toe, exuding an aura of affluence.

"Aurora, what a coincidence, I didn't expect it to be you." Emily feigned surprise, as if she had just noticed Aurora. "Are you eyeing those high heels too? From childhood to now, our tastes have always been the same."

Aurora naturally understood that Emily was referring to Daniel.

Feigning ignorance, Aurora covered her mouth in feigned shock and exclaimed, "You have a secret crush on my husband? I must certainly convey your feelings to John when I get home. However, given my husband's taste, I'm afraid he might not fancy you."

"I wouldn't even consider John; he's merely a pauper. I'm referring to Daniel," Emily snapped, with a scornful chuckle. "John really is unfortunate; he went bankrupt after marrying you. You're a curse; whoever associates with you is bound for bad luck."

"Then you'd better stay far away from me, lest you get affected and end up in jail again for a few years." Aurora retorted coolly, "By the way, only someone like you would be interested in a bastard like Daniel. I don't have your peculiar taste."

"Aurora, the Lewis family is already bankrupt, and you're still so arrogant. I am now the daughter of the Harris family and I've changed my last name to Harris. If I wanted to destroy you, it would be a piece of cake."

Aurora took a step forward, standing right in front of Emily, and said coldly, "Then try destroying me. I don't care what your last name is. If you want to live peacefully, stay as far away from me as possible. Otherwise, I have the means to get you out of jail, and I can send you back in. Just try it!"

Emily instinctively took two steps back in fear.

Realizing that she had been intimidated by Aurora again, Emily was furious and embarrassed. Then Emily said, "Aurora, you're just talking big. Look at your current status; it is impossible for you to send me back to jail again."

Aurora sighed. "Emily, you are the most shameless person I've ever met."

Emily was very realistic, always flattering the powerful and looking down upon the weak.

"Shut up, Aurora. The Lewis family is bankrupt. Can you even afford these shoes?" Emily sneered and said to the sales clerk, "Take a good look. This is the bankrupt Mrs. Lewis. She's a pauper now. I bet she won't buy anything from your store because she can't afford it."

John had previously done an interview and didn't announce to the world how wealthy he was after clearing the debts. Now, apart from the Robinson family, no one else knew that.

However, the bankruptcy of the Lewis family was well-known.

With Emily's words, the sales clerk began to look at Aurora with suspicion.

The shoes Aurora was eyeing cost tens of thousands of dollars.

Emily proudly took out her card and ordered, "Wrap up the shoes for me. I'll buy them."

Emily was in an exceptionally good mood. She hadn't felt this triumphant in front of Aurora for a long time and felt a sense of relief.

"Alright, please wait a moment."

The sales clerk was about to get the shoes when Chris wheeled in, "I'll take those shoes."

Seeing that it was Mr. Harris, the sales clerk was in a dilemma.

Emily was the daughter of the Harris family, and Chris was also a member of the Harris family. Selling the shoes to either one would offend the other, and she couldn't afford to offend either.

The sales clerk said, "These are the only pair of shoes left in the store."

"Chris, what are you doing here?" Emily was even more delighted to see Chris. Ever since she had previously encouraged Chris to pursue Aurora, he hadn't made any moves. Now that they had run into each other and Chris wanted to buy those shoes, it seemed he was planning to make a move on Aurora.

"Chris, if you want these shoes, how could I compete with you?" Emily's attitude changed quickly. "Wrap them up for Chris."

Chris didn't look at Emily but turned to Aurora, "Try them on; see if they fit."

The sales clerk reacted quickly and handed the shoes to Aurora to try.

Aurora glanced at Chris and Emily, then actually sat down to try on the shoes.

Aurora's actions made Emily scornful. She had thought Aurora was so proud and loyal to John, but now that John was bankrupt and Chris was showing her kindness, she shamelessly accepted it?

Emily was convinced that Aurora just wanted to latch onto the Harris family and was a vain person.

Chris was also pleased with Aurora's actions.

Aurora tried on the shoes, and they fit perfectly. The sales clerk praised, "They look beautiful. Mrs. Lewis, your feet are so fair and delicate; these shoes seem tailor-made for you."

The shoes indeed looked stunning on her.

"These will do; wrap them up," Aurora said, taking off the shoes.

Chris assumed Aurora had tacitly agreed to let him pay and told the sales clerk, "Put it on my tab."

The clerk nodded, "Yes, Mr. Harris."

Aurora spoke up, "Mr. Harris, how could I let you pay for the shoes I bought?"

Emily sneered, "The shoes cost tens of thousands of dollars. If you don't let Chris pay, can you even afford them..."

Before Emily could finish, Aurora pulled out a credit card and handed it to the sales clerk. "Charge it, no password."

Aurora pointed at several pairs of shoes on the rack and said, "Aside from the ones I've just indicated, please package the rest for me. I want each color, size 8."

Emily was dumbfounded. Chris's expression also changed.

The sales clerk was overjoyed but tried to contain her excitement, confirming again, "Mrs. Lewis, are you sure you want all the shoes in the store?"

"You heard right, all the shoes in the store." Aurora waved her credit card and said with a hint of frustration, "My husband told me not to come home unless I spent ten million dollars today. I'm really helpless. I don't know if these shoes will add up to a million dollars. If not, I'll take a few more bags to make up the amount."

Emily was shocked and couldn't help but ask, "Didn't the Lewis family go bankrupt? How are you still so rich?"

"Why do you care so much?" Aurora shot Emily a cold glance.

Emily was unwilling to give up, "Could it be that some rich man took a fancy to you? This credit card isn't from John, is it?"

"Who else could be richer than me?"

John's voice suddenly came from the store entrance. He walked briskly towards Aurora, extending his long arm to embrace her. "Honey, tired? I'm here to take you home."

"A bit tired from shopping," Aurora nestled in John's arms. "Honey, I bought all the shoes in the store."

"As long as you like them," John said, "If you like this brand, I'll buy the company tomorrow."

"Honey, you're so good to me." Aurora didn't take it seriously, thinking John was just putting on a show, so she played along.

It wasn't until the next day when the brand was actually acquired that she realized John wasn't joking. But that's a story for another time.

John's appearance made Chris's eyes redden, his hands gripping the wheelchair handles tightly.

It was John who had crippled Chris's legs.

The sight of the two embracing was even more painful for Chris.

After paying, John held Aurora's hand and left, completely ignoring Chris and Emily.

When Emily saw the news the next day and learned that the brand had indeed been acquired, she was both jealous and envious.

The weather was great today, and Aurora was wearing her new shoes, ready to take the babies out for some sun.

Lori and Ava were also heading out.

Aurora asked, "So early, where are you going?"

Lori said, "Today is my first day at work; I have to report in."

Lori was a bit excited about her first day at work, but her mood soured when she arrived at the police station and saw Todd there.
