Chapter 55 Adopting Loren
Aurora had a gut feeling that Loren had gotten into trouble.
And she was right.
Police officer Philip Parker walked over and said, "Miss White, you're here."
"Officer Parker, how did Loren end up here? Did he fall into the wrong hands again?"
"No, here's what happened. This kid tried to sell a hairpin worth a million dollars. The shop owner suspected it was stolen, so he brought the child to the station," Philip explained, "The kid claimed that you gave it to him, so we contacted you."
A hairpin?
Philip took out the hairpin.
Aurora remembered that John had given her that hairpin, and Loren had swiped it.
Aurora glanced at Loren. He looked like a guilty child, head down, playing the pity card. "Ladye, I know I was wrong."
Aurora was impressed; Loren admitted his mistakes as quickly as he made them.
Stealing was no small matter.
Loren was so young, already learning to steal and lie. Aurora was very worried.
She couldn't let Loren ruin his life.
"Officer Parker, I'm sorry, but I did give Loren that hairpin," Aurora apologized. "Loren is still young and pitiful. I'm sorry for the trouble."
"No problem, as long as it's cleared up," Philip said, "This kid is indeed pitiful, with no parents. We were planning to contact a welfare agency to take him in. It's too dangerous for him to be wandering around."
"I don't want to go to the welfare agency." Loren reacted strongly at the mention of the welfare agency. He had just run away from there and didn't want to go back.
He still needed to find his brother.
Loren cleverly hugged Aurora and said, "Lady, I'm so cute and well-behaved. Can you really bear to send me to the welfare agency? You don't like me. I''m so sad, and my heart is breaking."
Aurora felt helpless.
This child was really something.
Loren clung to Aurora. "Lady, take me home. When I grow up, I'll marry you and treat you very well."
Aurora couldn't help but laugh. "You want to marry me? By the time you grow up, I will be old."
"Youwill always be the prettiest in my heart."
This kid had a sweet tongue.
Loren had very good features, especially his captivating eyes. With his sweet talk, who knew how many girls' hearts he would capture when he grew up?
Philip also found it amusing. "Miss White, this kid is something else. Smart, lively, and cuter than child stars on TV. If he goes to the welfare agency, many people will want to adopt him."
Really send Loren to the welfare agency?
Aurora looked into Loren's clear, pure eyes and couldn't bear it.
Aurora softened and said, "Officer Parker, how about I take him home for a few days first?"
"Well..." Philip hesitated. "Miss White, procedurally, this isn't allowed. The child needs a stable environment, and at his age, he should be in school. If you really like this child, you should go through the adoption process."
"Adopt him?" Aurora hadn't considered that.
Raising a child, she wasn't sure if she could do it.
Loren eagerly promoted himself. "Lady, take me home. I'll be very obedient and make you happy. I'm a little bundle of joy; you won't regret it."
Loren's eyes pleaded, "Take me home," making it hard for anyone to refuse.
And so, Aurora felt like she was under a spell and went through the adoption process.
When she brought Loren home, she finally shook off her reverie and returned to her senses.
Oh my gosh, she had actually brought such a big child home.
Loren loved Aurora's place, cozy and comfortable. He lay on the bed, looking happy and content. "I finally have a home. I'm so happy."
Loren's eyes squinted with joy.
Seeing Loren so happy, Aurora felt good, too, but then a wave of sadness hit her.
It was such a small house, yet Loren loved it and called it home. Other kids grew up pampered by their parents, but Loren didn't even have a home.
A warm home, a warm bed, and parental love were luxuries for Loren.
Aurora suddenly felt very sad and heartbroken.
If her child were still alive, he would be Loren's age, maybe just as smart and cute.
"Loren, are you hungry? I will make you some food." Aurora walked over, gently stroking Loren's head, feeling soft-hearted.
Loren sat up, his pretty eyes gleaming mischievously. He hooked his arms around Aurora's neck and sweetly called, "Aurora."
Aurora was puzzled by Loren's sudden change. "Aurora?"
Loren hugged Aurora's neck and winked. "From now on, I'll treat you as my sister. When I grow up, I'll marry you."
Aurora couldn't help but laugh. "Alright, I'll wait for you to grow up."
Calling her Auntie didn't sound great. Calling her by her name, though awkward, sounded better.
"Let's make a promise." Loren held out his little hand. "Once we make a promise, no one can break it. Whoever breaks it is a badass."
"Okay." Aurora laughed and hooked pinkies.
Since she had brought him home, she had to take responsibility for Loren.
Taking care of his basic needs was one thing, but the most important was discipline and education.
"Loren, I'll take you out to eat and then buy some essentials."
"Okay." Loren held Aurora's hand, looking deeply affectionate. "Aurora, you're so good to me. Don't worry, I'll only love you and marry you."
Aurora felt like she was being flirted with by a four-year-old.
Aurora couldn't help but laugh. "Where did you learn all this? You can't say such cheesy things anymore; you're still young."
Loren was so young, yet he was already so good at flirting.
Loren raised his little hand, touching his heart. "Aurora, I'm sincere."
"Alright, I was just teasing you." Aurora laughed. "Let's go out to eat."
Aurora took Loren out for a meal, and then to the mall to buy clothes and daily necessities.
Loren was happy the whole time. Kids were sensitive and smart; he could feel that Aurora genuinely cared for him.
Loren's smile was infectious, and Aurora felt great, completely forgetting about John in the hospital.
At night, Aurora gave Loren a bath. There was only one bed at home, and Loren was so small, so they had to sleep together.
Loren was thrilled, snuggling into the bed, holding Aurora's hand, and looking satisfied and happy. "Aurora, you smell so good."
"Loren." Aurora's tone was a bit stern. This kid was always flirting with her.
Loren giggled, then suddenly became sad. "Aurora, now I have a soft bed and your care. I wonder how my brother is doing. Is he warm and fed? Is he being bullied? I miss my brother so much."
As he spoke, Loren started to cry.
He really missed his brother.
It was the first time the brothers had been separated.
Aurora felt heartbroken. "Loren, don't cry. I will definitely help you find your brother."
"Okay, you're the best."
Saying that, Loren snuggled into Aurora's arms.
Aurora felt very sorry for Loren.
Aurora had impulsively adopted Loren, but she had to work. The next day, she was in a dilemma. She couldn't take Loren to the office, so she had to leave him at home.
It seemed she needed to find a kindergarten quickly.
In the following days, Aurora was busy finding a school for Loren. After work, she took Loren out to eat, shop, and go to the amusement park.
John, who had been in the hospital for a few more days, noticed Aurora's absence and couldn't stay calm.
