Chapter 385: Come on, call me Mom first.
John stood at the doorway, listened for a moment, then pushed the door open and went in.
Aurora was still on the phone. Seeing John return, she instructed Jack, "You should get some rest and take care of yourself. You're my only brother."
Aurora and Jack had grew up together. When Jack was brought to The White Villa, Wendy had told her that he was her brother and that she should look after him.
When Wendy was seriously ill, she also reminded Aurora to take care of Jack.
Jack was frail and often in the hospital. Besides the monthly medical and living expenses Dean provided, almost all of Aurora's earnings after she started working went towards Jack's expenses.
Under Nicole's harshness, the siblings had become each other's support.
John took off his coat and casually asked, "Why did Jack call you so late?"
"It wasn't Jack; it was Dean. Jack's been having post-surgery complications. He had arrhythmia and chest tightness just now, and Dean got scared and called me. I just gave Jack a few reminders."
Aurora spoke worriedly, "With the advancement of medical technology, post-surgery complications are actually caused by heart disease. Surgery can reduce the risk and improves symptoms but doesn't cure heart disease. I'm worried about Jack..."
At this point, Aurora felt very melancholic.
Sandra's issue had just been resolved, and she didn't want anything to happen to Jack.
"Don't worry, I'll have Gary check on him." John changed into loose pajamas, seemingly casually, "You and Jack have a really good relationship."
"Of course," Aurora replied. "I'm much older than Jack and have watched him grow up. My feelings for him are definitely special."
Aurora suddenly realized the issue, looked at John, and couldn't help but laugh, "John, you can't be that petty, can you? You're jealous of even this? Usually, you're jealous of our son, and now you're jealous of Jack. You're something else."
"I'm just too concerned about you." John smiled, hugging Aurora's waist and tickling her.
Aurora was very ticklish and laughed heartily, "John, stop it, haha, stop it."
After some playful wrestling on the bed, John pulled the blanket over himself, "Time to sleep."
Don't get the wrong idea; they really just slept.
After a bit of play, Aurora felt tired, her eyelids heavy. She nestled in John's arms, feeling particularly at ease, and soon fell asleep.
Listening to her steady breathing, John gazed at Aurora's sleeping face. Seeing the woman he loved so content in his arms, he felt a deep sense of satisfaction.
John quietly got up, walked to the balcony, and made a call, "Sam, keep tonight's situation under wraps. No need to dig any deeper."
With that, everything was settled.
For the next few days, it rained lightly in Silvercrest City.
Sandra was dead, and Helen's case was closed.
John took Helen's body back, and Alexander took Sandra's.
Helen's funeral was grand and solemn. On the day of the burial, almost everyone from Silvercrest City's elite attended.
The entire Lewis family was there, except Wade who was in prison. Even Rex showed up.
John looked solemn and deeply saddened, while Lloyd was so overwhelmed with grief that he fainted once.
Lloyd had treated Helen like his own daughter. Losing such a wonderful daughter-in-law dying so tragically broke his heart.
Everyone's face was filled with sorrow and remembrance.
The funeral lasted until late afternoon.
The children stayed at the grave for a long time, and Aurora asked Sam to help take Loren and Summer home first.
Aurora and John still had to thank the guests who came to pay their respects.
Finally getting a moment to drink some water, Todd approached, "Aurora, you must be tired. Need a break? Hungry? I bought some food for you."
"You offering help out of the blue? There's got to be a catch," Aurora asked while drinking water. "What's up?"
"You're too kind," Todd smiled and asked, "Do you know where Lori went?"
"No idea."
Aurora wasn't lying; she really didn't know.
Aurora said, "I think Lori didn't tell me because she was afraid I'd sell her out. But if you want to find her, it shouldn't be hard. Just use your Nightfall network. Should be a piece of cake."
Todd muttered, "That would be too embarrassing."
Aurora laughed, "And asking me isn't?"
"Aurora, you're Lori's family. Lori bullied me, so you should handle it."
Aurora was speechless.
How was this her problem?
"I'm not the manufacturer, so I'm not responsible for after-sales. You've got the wrong person."
She wasn't Lori's mom.
Todd suddenly grinned mischievously, "Aurora, you're Lori's sister. Doesn't that make you half a mom? Since you're the mom, if your daughter messes around outside, shouldn't you take care of it?"
Aurora's eyes widened at the absurdity.
She wondered if John had taught him this.
"Then shouldn't you call me mom?"
The seniority just skyrocketed.
Todd's mouth twitched.
Aurora then spoke earnestly, "Todd, clinging to Lori for responsibility won't work. If you could get pregnant, you might have leverage... but you can't. Anyway, I'm not solving this problem. Handle it yourself. You're an adult; can't you manage this?"
Todd felt dejected. He knew Aurora was unreliable.
Todd replied, "Aurora, here's the thing. Lori left without a word, no explanation. My parents think if Lori doesn't take responsibility, they'll arrange a blind date for me. Aurora, you know how much I dread that. If I marry someone else and Lori comes back, I'd be in trouble."
Aurora listened intently, "So what do you want me to do?"
Todd said seriously, "I'm not keen on marrying into Lori's family, but since she had me first, she has the right to marry me. If she forfeits, I'll be at peace, and we can go our separate ways. You can be a witness to make sure Lori doesn't come back and make my life miserable."
Aurora looked Todd up and down, "You know, the way you're talking makes me feel like I'm looking at a woman."
Talking about marrying into a family.
The key was, Todd said it so seriously.
It was like Aurora had an ungrateful son who bullied a girl outside, and the girl came to her for justice.
And Lori was the ungrateful "son."
Todd smiled, "Aurora, please pass the message. Three days, no more."
Aurora was lost in thought, and hearing Todd's voice, she blurted out, "Okay, I'll definitely tell my ungrateful..."
Todd: "What?"
Aurora calmly spoke, "Tell Lori."
