Chapter 81 Gossip
Time felt like it had stopped.
Aurora, her eyes closed, tried to calm her racing thoughts.
"Aurora."
John's voice was rough, his forehead resting against hers, their noses almost touching. She could feel his warm breath on her face.
He started to get handsy.
The car was filled with a lustful atmosphere, and in a mix of confusion and desire, John suddenly yelped in pain.
Aurora had slapped his injured thigh, pushing him away. "Do you want to cripple your leg, or are you just suicidal?" she asked.
Even now, he wanted to get frisky.
John had nearly lost his life, and his leg was barely hanging on. Any intense activity could ruin it.
"I don't care." John chuckled, lying back on the car seat, looking ready to let her do whatever she wanted.
Aurora, fuming, gave him a light kick. "You might want to die, but I don't. If you go, I'm stuck here too."
John grabbed her hand, pulling her into his arms, and they lay together in the car.
The car was spacious, and with the seats down, it felt like a big bed.
"Aurora, let's get back together." John kissed her on the forehead. It was the first time he'd clearly asked to reunite since their breakup.
Aurora couldn't deny she was moved.
But she wasn't swayed by sweet talk; she knew her situation too well.
Who knew, by tomorrow, her reputation might be in shambles?
The Lewis Family wouldn't want a woman like her to marry into their family.
Aurora had always been impulsive with her feelings, but this time, she was thinking clearly.
"No."
Aurora's refusal was blunt.
John felt frustrated.
It was the first time he'd pursued a woman and been turned down.
"You women always say one thing and mean another." John didn't ask why. He was smart enough to guess.
Aurora not agreeing was fine; he could wait.
"Got a problem?" Aurora opened her eyes, gave him a blank stare, and started to get up. "Then go find someone else. Saying one thing and meaning another is a woman's right."
John pulled her back into his arms. "Don't even think about it."
Aurora smirked, snuggling into his arms, her voice lazy. "I'm tired. Gonna sleep."
After tossing and turning all night, she was exhausted.
There was a tough battle to fight tomorrow, but with John there, she could sleep soundly.
"Okay."
John carefully cracked the car window and used his arm as a pillow for Aurora.
In no time, she was asleep.
Watching her sleep, John felt an indescribable sense of satisfaction.
As long as she was by his side, he felt content.
Aurora was asleep, but many people couldn't sleep tonight.
Nicole, disheveled, found Percy and threw herself into his arms like he was her lifeline.
"Percy, please save Emily. Aurora wants to harm her."
Dean's phone call had already made Percy uneasy, and seeing Nicole like this, he realized how serious things were.
But after years of sneaking around with Nicole, he wasn't afraid of Dean finding out.
He didn't believe Dean would really dare to challenge him.
Men had a natural instinct to protect the weak.
Seeing Nicole's injuries, Percy was furious. "Dean dared to hit you. He's overestimating himself."
Dean hitting Nicole was a direct challenge to Percy.
How could Percy tolerate that?
Nicole cried pitifully, "Dean knows everything. I can't stay in the White Family anymore. Percy, you're all I've got. You can't just leave us. Please go save Emily."
"What happened to Emily?" Percy still didn't know the details.
"I don't know either. Emily called me earlier, asking for help, saying Aurora wanted to harm her."
Percy said, "Don't worry. I'll send someone to find out."
After sending someone to investigate, Percy finally learned what had happened.
Nicole hadn't known about Emily's plan to have someone assault Aurora, and she was shocked when she found out.
"Percy, Emily has never suffered like this before. How can she stay in the police department? Please go bring her back quickly."
At the previous party, Kevin and Aurora had shown no respect, and Percy had always remembered that.
Now that Aurora and Emily had caused such a big scene, it was an opportunity for Percy.
He couldn't just ignore it.
"Don't worry. I'll call Chief Perez personally and get him to release Emily."
Percy said and went to make the call. With his social status, bailing someone out should be easy.
However, when he talked to Perez, Percy realized things were worse than he thought.
Chief Perez couldn't help, saying, "Mr. Harris, there's nothing I can do. Emily broke the law, and we're just following the rules. You should get her a lawyer or talk to Aurora. If Aurora agrees to drop the charges, we'll release her."
Percy sensed something was wrong and asked, "Did Kevin get involved?"
Chief Perez was troubled. It wasn't just the Robinson family meddling; even someone from the Lewis Family was involved.
Considering the options, he had to side with the Robinson family and the Lewis Family, but he couldn't offend the Harris family either.
"Mr. Harris, I'll be honest with you. I can't make the decision. Unless Aurora drops the charges, Emily will have to serve three to five years."
Even Chief Perez couldn't make the decision, which shocked Percy.
It seemed this wasn't just about the Robinson family getting involved.
Nicole, hearing that Emily might go to jail, fainted from the shock.
And this was just the beginning.
Dean had already started his revenge. At dawn, the news of Percy and Nicole's affair, and even having an illegitimate daughter, went viral on the internet.
It caught everyone off guard.
People in the circle started gossiping and discussing.
This was the biggest news of the year. Percy from one of the four major families in Silver Crest City, the Harris family, was having an affair, and the other woman was a married woman. And the one who exposed it was the cuckolded Dean. How could this not be shocking?
Seeing the trending news, Percy was so angry that his blood pressure skyrocketed. Mrs. Harris found out Percy's location and rushed over, coincidentally encountering Nicole complaining to Percy.
"Percy, you even brought this woman back."
Mrs. Harris had long known about Percy's affairs but pretended not to. Now that things had blown up, she couldn't pretend ignorance anymore.
Seeing Nicole there made Mrs. Harris even angrier.
"You slut." Mrs. Harris slapped Nicole, also giving Percy a smack.
Mrs. Harris was indeed from a military family.
Percy was stunned. He was almost sixty and got slapped by his own wife?
Mrs. Harris's slap ignited all the pent-up anger and grievances in Nicole.
Nicole snapped, "How dare you slap me? I'll fight you."
Nicole and Mrs. Harris started fighting.
The Harris family was in chaos.
After waking up, Aurora saw the news online and was stunned for a few seconds. Then she looked at John in disbelief and said, "My dad actually didn't back down this time?"
