Chapter 379: Feint to the East, Attack to the West
Lori's words were sharp.
Jack put his hands in his pockets and looked at Lori with a particularly clean smile: "Lori, why are you asking like that? What do you want to know?"
"Just tell me the truth," Lori asked. "After that person was caught, where did you go?"
Jack's smile faded, and he remained silent for a long time.
Lori stared at him, about to speak, when Jack suddenly rolled up his sleeve, revealing a very long scar on his arm, a fresh wound.
"How did that happen?" Lori had been injured before, but she had never seen such a long scar, almost 8 inches long.
After the stitches were removed, it looked like a jagged seam running down his arm.
"After Richard was caught, I went to find the stash he had hidden. I was captured by a local gang who were also after the stash. They knew I was Richard's son and thought I knew where it was, so they tortured me."
Jack's eyes dimmed. "This scar is from that time. In that dark place, I don't know how long I was held. Finally, one day, I found a chance to escape. After a lot of trouble, I made it back to Silvercrest City."
Lori pressed on, "Do you know who captured you?"
"I don't know, I only know they all had a scorpion tattoo on their arms."
A scorpion?
Lori quickly thought of a gang called the Scorpion Gang.
She had dealt with them before; they were indeed vicious and ruthless.
"Today's wedding might not be safe. Don't wander around; it's best to stay in the hall."
Jack nodded, "Got it. This wedding is actually a setup by Aurora and John to catch Sandra. Lori, do you think Sandra will come?"
"How would I know? I'm not a mind reader. Anyway, if she comes, I'll make sure she doesn't get away."
Jack spoke indignantly, "If Sandra gets caught, Aurora's family can finally have some peace. Sandra is even worse than Emily was. But Lori, don't blame me for being honest. If John can't handle Sandra, can he really make Aurora happy?"
"Sandra is cunning and has slipped through my fingers several times. What, are you saying I'm incompetent too?" Lori snorted coldly. "If you have the guts, go catch her yourself. With your scrawny frame, you wouldn't last a second against me."
Lori mocked, "Since you're my brother, you can't be too weak. Look at me and Aurora: one can fight and endure, the other is smart. And you? Not only are you not smart, but you're also physically weak. You need to start working out."
"Lori, stop mocking me. I used to have a heart condition. Even after surgery, I can't do intense exercise."
"Excuses." Lori was about to tease him some more when she suddenly caught a whiff of something strange. "What's that smell? It smells like gasoline."
"Gasoline? I don't smell anything," Jack replied, looking puzzled.
"I'll go check it out. Don't wander around; stay in the hall," Lori instructed as she walked towards the lounge.
The further she walked, the fainter the gasoline smell became.
Could she be going in the wrong direction?
Jack watched Lori hurry off. He raised his hand to his nose, sniffed, then headed to the restroom.
Lori knocked on the lounge door, and Aurora asked in confusion, "Lori, what's wrong?"
"I feel like something's about to happen. Aurora, is everything okay here?"
"Nothing," Aurora replied, who had been in the lounge with Wendy.
"Maybe I'm just overthinking it," Lori spoke after checking the room. "Aurora, how about I pretend to be you? If something happens, the risk won't be as high. I just smelled gasoline. Why would there be gasoline in a hotel? I'm worried there's danger."
"No way," Aurora refused firmly. "Lori, don't worry. Nothing will happen. The hotel is full of our people. By the way, where did you smell the gasoline? Is someone trying to start a fire?"
The word gasoline easily makes people think of arson.
Wendy was confused. "Aurora, what's going on? What risk? What gasoline and fire? Is someone trying to cause trouble at the wedding?"
"Mom, it's nothing. Just go to the hall," Aurora replied, not wanting to worry Wendy.
"You're hiding something from me," Wendy was displeased. "Aurora, I can tell something's not right with this wedding."
Wendy had just passed through the hall and noticed that the so-called guests all seemed off, not like they were there to attend a wedding.
Under Wendy's questioning, Aurora had no choice but to reveal the true purpose of the wedding.
After learning the truth, Wendy spoke, "Using a wedding for a setup is ridiculous."
Aurora replied firmly, "My mother-in-law treated me like her own daughter. I won't let her killer go free."
Wendy sighed, clearly disapproving but still cooperating with Aurora by going to the hall.
However, this was just on the surface. Knowing her daughter might be in danger, Wendy couldn't just leave it alone. But she also knew Aurora was as stubborn as she was, so she left for now.
Lori and Ava were not in the lounge with Aurora. Lori was in the room opposite the lounge, keeping an eye on the hallway and Aurora through the peephole.
Ava was in a room upstairs, making sure no one could enter the lounge through the window.
Regarding the gasoline in the hotel, Aurora thought it was a serious matter and informed John through the earpiece.
Aurora wanted to say more, but suddenly the earpiece lost power and went silent.
"How could it be out of power?" Aurora muttered.
Meanwhile, in the wedding hall, John wsa worried about Todd's inspection, told Todd to stay with Alexander and the others while he went to check again.
As he reached the hallway, Jack approached him. "John, Aurora wants to see you in the lounge."
"Okay, I'm on my way."
John turned and headed towards the lounge.
As he neared the lounge, Gideon ran up, looking serious. "Mr. Lewis, we found something in the parking lot."
John frowned. "Let's go."
John went to the parking lot and found gasoline in a corner.
Gideon spoke, "Mr. Lewis, could someone have brought gasoline in? If so, how did they get past the inspection?"
"Sandra is cunning, and she must have people inside the hotel. It's not surprising if some slipped through," John said, squatting down to touch the ground. "She's already here."
The gasoline had spilled on the ground and evaporated, but the smell hung in the air.
Following the scent, John found an empty parking spot. Was the car driven away? Or had there never been a car?
John looked up and saw it was a blind spot for the cameras, making it hard to know what car had been there.
Meanwhile.
At the other end of the hallway.
A woman in red high heels and a wedding dress was pushing a cart towards the lounge. The sound of her heels echoed eerily down the hallway.
The cart was draped with a white cloth, concealing several full cans of gasoline.
Suddenly, a deafening noise erupted from outside.
Lori, who had been watching the hallway through the peephole, was distracted.
"Ava, what happened outside?"
Lori walked quickly to the window, asking Ava through the earpiece.
Ava, upstairs, also heard the loud noise and looked down.
In that moment, the woman in red high heels reached the lounge door, swiped a key card, and pushed the gasoline inside.
Downstairs, a car had crashed into a wall, the front completely wrecked.
Ava answered through the earpiece, "It looks like someone drunk crashed into the wall."
Todd's voice also came through the earpiece.
"Lori, what's going on over there?"
"Damn," Lori exclaimed.
Realizing what was happening, Lori quickly opened the door to Aurora's lounge, but it was locked.
"Aurora!"
Lori urgently tried to break down the door.
She also called John through the earpiece, "John, something's wrong with Aurora."
