Chapter 207 With Aurora Around, John Suffered a Crushing Defeat
Seeing Lori and Ava hot on his heels, the man bolted, sprinting out of the hospital like his life depended on it.
At the entrance, an emergency patient was being wheeled in, causing a crowd to jam up the doorway. By the time Lori and Ava managed to push through, they only caught a glimpse of the guy jumping into a car and speeding off.
"Dammit!" Lori swore; there was no way they could catch him now.
Ava chimed in, "Now The Shadow of Darkness is even infiltrating the hospital. Are they after Mr. Lee?"
Lori spat, "Those Shadow of Darkness creeps are the worst, always playing dirty. If they had any guts, they'd face us head-on."
"Enough cursing, let's check on Mr. Lee," said Ava.
They rushed to Richard's room. Just as they arrived, John was stepping out after talking with Richard. Inside, they found Richard staring blankly at the wall, looking almost catatonic.
"Richard, what's wrong? Did John mess with you?" Lori anxiously shook Richard, nearly knocking him off the bed.
Richard snapped back to reality and looked at Lori, saying, "Lori, you're a girl, but you're strong as hell. Push a bit harder, and my bones might fall apart."
"That's more like it," Lori sighed in relief. "Uncle Richard, what were you talking about with John? Why do you look like this? John may be handsome, but you can't be so distracted. He's Aurora's man."
Richard felt embarrassed and glared at Lori. "What are you talking about?"
As soon as Richard got angry, the heart monitor started beeping wildly.
Lori quickly said, "Uncle, calm down, take a deep breath. If you die because of me, I'll feel really guilty."
Richard was speechless. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, feeling Lori was driving him nuts. "How did I end up with a niece like you? You're nothing like Aurora."
Lori laughed, "Uncle, you raised me. So I'm just like you."
Richard almost exploded with anger again. "I still want to live a few more years. You should visit me less and go help Aurora," he said, turning his face away.
"Uncle, I saw people from The Shadow of Darkness sneaking into the hospital earlier. Do you really think I wanted to come here?" Lori said, "Anyway, I've warned you. Take care of yourself. I'm out."
Lori delivered the message and left.
Ava said, "Mr. Lee, take care," and followed her out.
After hearing from Lori that The Shadow of Darkness had infiltrated the hospital, Aurora realized she wasn't just being paranoid; someone was definitely watching her. She felt that The Shadow of Darkness might not be targeting Richard.
But John had said earlier that the Fox from The Shadow of Darkness had been dealt with, so who else could be holding a grudge against her?
Aurora kept her suspicions to herself, not wanting to cause panic. If John knew The Shadow of Darkness might be after her, he'd be on high alert and never leave her side. With Lori and Ava around, Aurora wasn't too worried about her safety.
In the following days, Aurora was busy with Wolfpack matters. Surprisingly, Robert and Christopher didn't cause any trouble. But that was clearly a problem.
Aurora felt uneasy and stayed on high alert, but what was meant to happen still happened.
That night, the weather was unusually hot and stuffy. Lori and Ava had gone out and hadn't returned yet, making Aurora very anxious. She went downstairs to find John.
John was whipping up a late-night snack for Aurora when he saw her come out in a thin nightgown. Concerned, he said, "It's cool at night. Why are you dressed so lightly?" as he draped his jacket over her. "Are you hungry? I'll make you some pasta; it'll be ready soon."
These days, John had been staying here and taking care of Aurora's meals. Even though Aurora hadn't verbally forgiven him, their relationship had gradually improved.
"I'm so hot I'm about to sweat. How is it cold?" Aurora replied.
Pregnant women tended to feel hotter than usual.
"You still need to wear something. Sudden changes in temperature can easily cause a cold," John insisted.
"You're even more nagging than my dad," Aurora pouted. "Lori and Ava haven't come back yet. Do you think something happened to them?"
"With their combat skills, you should be worried about others, not them." Just as John finished speaking, there was a sudden crash. An SUV smashed through the window and headed straight for Aurora without stopping.
It all happened so suddenly, and Aurora, standing close to the window, was too shocked to react.
"Aurora!" John's heart raced as he quickly leaped over to grab Aurora and pull her out of the way.
The SUV crashed into the wall behind them, leaving a huge hole.
Several masked men immediately got out of the SUV. The leader said, "Mr. Lewis, Ms. White. Mr. Johnson invites you for a cup of tea."
"Your way of inviting people is quite unique," John sneered. "Mr. Johnson only sent a few of you. Is this an underestimation?"
"We are more than enough." They didn't waste any words and started attacking.
John fought against the four men while shouting to Aurora, "Aurora, run!"
She wanted to run, but her legs were weak.
The leader targeted Aurora and tried to grab her.
John grabbed the man's shoulder and pulled him back. Aurora said, "John, hold them off," and started running.
Staying would only distract John and make her a burden.
With John holding them off, Aurora managed to run out of the villa and immediately called Lori.
The call went through, and Lori's breathless voice came from the other end. She must be running while answering, "Aurora, I'm in a bit of trouble. Go sleep first and don't worry about me."
Hearing her words, Aurora paused for a moment. "I'm in trouble too. People from The Shadow of Darkness organization broke into the house."
Lori and Ava encountering trouble at the same time was definitely a scheme by The Shadow of Darkness organization.
Lori realized it too. "Shit, they are too insidious. How many of them are there?"
"Five."
"Only five? John alone is enough."
Just as Lori finished speaking, Aurora felt a cold sensation on her neck—a knife was pressed against her neck.
Aurora's legs trembled as she said to Lori on the phone, "There's a knife at my throat right now. Do you think John still has a chance?"
Lori was shocked.
Even if there were ten or dozens of people, John could handle them. But with Aurora involved, John would be completely distracted.
Aurora hung up the phone and glanced at the person holding a knife to her throat. Her expression changed dramatically. "How are you still alive?"
