Chapter 89 Ms. White Got Jealous
That was the first time Aurora had heard the name Jennifer.
John had been heartbroken?
Aurora had no idea about that.
For John to be down for half a year, Jennifer must've meant a lot to him.
Aurora wasn't dumb; she got what Wade was hinting at.
"Vice President Lewis, you sure know how to joke. Even if two people look alike, they're still different individuals," Aurora said bluntly. "There's only one Aurora in this world."
Wade froze, then smiled with a hint of admiration. "Ms. White, you're straightforward and indeed unique. But don't you want to hear about John's love history?"
Aurora eyed Wade, guessing his intention, and smiled slightly. "Mr. Lewis's love history must interest many. I'm just an ordinary person, naturally curious about gossip. If Vice President Lewis wants to talk, I'm all ears."
Wade's smile deepened. He couldn't figure out what Aurora really felt about John.
He didn't see any sign of jealousy from her.
Wade sat down and slowly recounted, "Five years ago, John had a girlfriend named Jennifer. They were even talking about marriage. But then disaster struck. John's enemies came and took Jennifer away. She was never seen again. After Jennifer's accident, John was devastated. He later married several times, but none of those marriages ended well. Ms. White, I sincerely hope you can help John move on from his past."
"Vice President Lewis, you overestimate me. I'm afraid I can't help," Aurora said with a faint smile. "I have nothing to do with Mr. Lewis."
Wade was clearly trying to test whether she and John were involved. Whether they were or not, she couldn't admit it.
Otherwise, she'd definitely be targeted by Wade.
She remembered something John had once said: any woman who becomes John's wouldn't be spared by the Lewis Family's side branches.
If John had an heir, it would be a threat to the side branches.
Wade smiled. "Then I misunderstood. Ms. White, I'm truly sorry. Don't take it to heart. John is a sentimental person. Jennifer has been gone for so many years, and he still can't get over her. I'm just worried that his heartbreak is too deep for him to move on."
"Vice President Lewis, you're really nice to Mr. Lewis. Such brotherly love is rare," Aurora praised with a smile. "When I see Mr. Lewis, I'll be sure to convey your concern to him. Your efforts today won't go to waste."
Aurora said this on purpose.
Sure enough, when Wade heard that Aurora would tell John, he quickly said, "Ms. White, I hope our conversation today stays between us. Don't mention Jennifer to John; it will only bring up sad memories."
Aurora smiled innocently. "Vice President Lewis, you're really considerate."
Just then, Wade's secretary rushed in. "Mr. Lewis is coming this way."
John was coming?
Wade frowned but was secretly pleased.
He had just called Aurora over for a few minutes, and John came right away. He was really anxious.
Aurora was also surprised. John coming at this time was practically announcing their relationship.
"Aurora, you haven't finished your work. What are you doing here? Go back to work," John said as he wheeled himself in, his tone a bit tense.
"Yes, Mr. Lewis," Aurora said, still obeying.
Wade and John were left in the office, and tension hung in the air.
Wade smiled. "John, there's no need to be so tense. I was just chatting with Ms. White."
John coldly warned, "Stay away from her. I know what you're thinking. If you dare to do anything to her, I'll make sure you get kicked out of the Lewis Family."
Being kicked out of the Lewis Family would mean losing all rights and no longer having a chance to compete with John.
As the head of the Lewis Family, John had that power.
A touch of shade flashed in Wade's eyes, but he kept a calm smile. "John, why would I have any bad intentions towards the woman you fancy? This is good news for the Lewis Family. Grandpa will be very happy to know."
John knew Wade too well.
If Rex was a leopard, then Wade was a wolf.
But no matter how fierce a wolf or a leopard was, they couldn't compete with a lion.
"You better remember what you said today," John cautioned and wheeled himself out.
Wade's eyes burned with jealousy, and he clenched the water cup in his hand tightly.
'John, one day I will crush you under my feet. There can only be one head of the Lewis Family, and that will be me.'
John heard that Wade had called Aurora away, and for the usually calm John, he was indeed a bit flustered.
John intercepted Aurora as she came out of the restroom.
"What did Wade say to you?"
Aurora was surprised to see John blocking the restroom door. "Mr. Lewis, this is the ladies' room. We just chatted a bit, asked if I was adjusting well, and talked about whether you had moved on from your heartbreak."
When John heard this, his expression changed slightly. Nothing good could come from Wade's mouth.
John pondered. "Aurora, don't believe what he says."
"I'm not stupid. I saw right through what he was up to." Aurora shrugged and asked with a smile, "You're so nervous. Could it be that this woman named Jennifer was really your ex-girlfriend?"
Actually, Aurora didn't mind. Everyone had a past.
She had an ex-boyfriend and even had a child.
John was silent for a long time before nodding. "Sort of. She died five years ago."
Sort of?
It was an ambiguous answer. Sowas she or wasn't she?
Aurora didn't know what to say. That was John's past, and the person had been dead for five years. Bringing it up would only hurt him.
"Sorry," Aurora apologized.
Just then, Aurora's phone rang, and it was her ex-boyfriend calling.
Why was today all about exes?
John saw Aurora hesitating to answer and asked jealously, "Daniel?"
Aurora was surprised. She really wanted to see if John had X-ray vision to guess that.
"Yes, ex-boyfriend," Aurora admitted openly. "He's recently become quite wealthy, maybe he thinks I'm easy to fool. He's been sending flowers every day. I sold them and made a small profit. But speaking of romance, you're really lacking. I haven't even received a single flower from you."
John said quietly, "Half of those flowers you sold were from me."
"What?" Aurora was confused. "When did you give them?"
John looked at Aurora with a resentful gaze, and Aurora quickly realized. "How childish."
Despite her complaint, she felt happy inside.
Thinking about it, she couldn't help but smile. She never thought John would send flowers.
"I still have to go to the hospital to visit Jack. I'm leaving work early," Aurora notified directly again.
John looked at her with affection. "You are the mistress of the company. You call the shots."
That was very sweet..
That sentence was really heartwarming.
Just as Aurora was about to speak, her phone rang again. This time it wasn't Daniel but her lawyer.
After Aurora heard the lawyer, her face instantly turned pale.
