Chapter 339: I Have a Husband
Todd felt very embarrassed under Lori's gaze and stammered, "Last time you shot me with this, I thought it might be worth something. Plus, it's your personal item, so I figured if I ever did something shady, I could leave it at the scene and frame you."
"Todd, you're such a schemer." Surprisingly, Lori didn't hit Todd this time. She turned around and silently started picking the lock.
Todd secretly breathed a sigh of relief, unsure if Lori believed his nonsense.
Lori quickly unlocked the door, and Todd rarely praised her, "You're really good at this. By the way, what exactly did Willie ask you to do?"
Lori usually came off as unreliable, unserious, and downright infuriating, but she definitely understood Willie's intentions.
"A while back a buyer wanted the Starlight Gem. Ava and I traced it back to you. Then the buyer changed their mind and offered more money to have the owner of the Starlight Gem killed. I didn't agree, so they upped the offer." Lori's tone was very calm, as if she were just stating a fact.
Todd was moved and surprised, "Lori, I didn't expect you to be so loyal and not sell me out for money. I'm really touched."
Lori knew that the Starlight Gem was in Todd's possession.
And just now, Lori had played dumb and didn't directly tell Willie.
Todd hugged Lori's leg, almost crying with gratitude.
Lori looked at him with disdain, "You've got snot all over my clothes. Don't be too touched. I didn't do this for you. Given Aurora and John's relationship, if I killed you for money, Aurora would definitely disown me and it would ruin their relationship. I'm doing this purely for Aurora; it has nothing to do with you."
This was true. Lori wasn't stupid; it wasn't worth offending so many people for money.
Lori added, "Actually, the key point is that their offer was too low."
Todd felt a chill in his heart. "I was wrong about you."
The cage opened, and Lori spoke, "Let's get out of here first. I still need to rescue Ava and don't have time to waste."
Aurora and John had returned to the hotel, and Sam quickly found out where Lori and Todd were being held.
After knocking, Sam entered, "Mr. Lewis, Mr. Smith and Ms. Hernandez are likely being held at Starfall."
John asked, "Have you found the entrance to Starfall?"
Sam shook his head, "Not yet. It's a private prison built by Nick. Willie has people locked up there, and Nick definitely knows about it."
The implication was that Nick had tacitly agreed to it, capturing their Nightfall people and acting as if nothing had happened at the party.
It seemed they wanted to cover it up and deny it, which meant Lori and Todd were really in danger.
Aurora and John exchanged a glance, and John utttered, "Nick will definitely go to Starfall tonight. This is the best chance to find the entrance."
Aurora frowned, "If we run into him, it will blow everything up, and Lori and the others will be in even more danger."
John gave a cold smile, "Nick doesn't have the guts to harm them."
John looked at Tyler, "Did you find anything tonight?"
"Just as you said, Richard went to the birthday party tonight, but Nick's eldest son, Raymond, threw him out. By the time I got there, he was gone. I was just a bit too late." Tyler sounded frustrated. If he had been a bit faster, Richard wouldn't have slipped away again.
"Forget about Richard for now. Gather all the Nightfall people in the town and bring them here. Leave some to protect Aurora, and the rest will come with me."
"Yes, Mr. Lewis. I'll take care of it right away."
This time, John definitely wouldn't let Aurora go with them. He left Lachlan and Gideon to ensure Aurora's safety, while the others went to rescue Todd and Lori.
Aurora was alone in the hotel, feeling restless.
She glanced at the time; it was almost midnight.
She definitely wouldn't be able to sleep tonight and could only wait anxiously for news.
In the early hours, around 4 a.m., when people are most exhausted, Aurora was lying on the couch, feeling a bit sleepy. Suddenly, she heard some noise outside.
At first, Aurora didn't go out, but when smoke started seeping in through the door crack and she heard an alarm, she opened the door and went out.
Lachlan and Gideon also came out of their rooms.
"Mrs. Lewis, the hotel is on fire. We need to leave."
"Okay."
Aurora followed Lachlan and Gideon. Many guests were also pouring out of their rooms, causing chaos, panic, and screams to fill the hotel.
The alarm kept blaring, making everyone anxious.
The elevator was out of service, so everyone crowded the stairs. There were too many people, the power was out, and there were no lights, only emergency indicators, making the stairwell dimly lit.
"Mrs. Lewis, this way." As soon as Lachlan spoke, a wave of people rushed over, pushing Aurora away in the blink of an eye.
"Mrs. Lewis!" Lachlan shouted loudly.
Gideon also panicked, pushing people aside, "Mrs. Lewis!"
The surroundings were too noisy, and Aurora could only faintly hear Lachlan and Gideon calling her, "Lachlan, Gideon, I'm here."
Aurora's voice was drowned out by the chaotic cries for help.
Everyone was running for their lives.
Aurora was pushed down to the third floor. She thought she should follow everyone out of the hotel and then meet up with Lachlan and Gideon.
At that moment, someone used a phone flashlight, and in the white light, Aurora glimpsed a familiar face.
Raymond.
Nick's eldest son.
What was he doing here?
Aurora's instincts told her not to go out. Raymond being here meant trouble.
Watching the crowd flee, she decided to head in the opposite direction. She pulled a wet wipe from her bag, hugged the wall, and started to make her way up.
The hotel was on fire, but apart from the smoke, she had no idea where the fire had started.
As Aurora went up, there were fewer people, making it easier.
The hotel had fifteen floors. When Aurora reached the tenth floor, someone grabbed her hand.
"Come with me. Raymond's people are waiting downstairs to catch you." The voice was familiar.
By the light from outside, Aurora saw that it was Luis, a hotel staff member.
Aurora felt inexplicably reassured and followed her.
Raymond and his men were at the exit, waiting to catch Aurora, but after a long time, she still hadn't appeared. With the fire, it was impossible she hadn't come out.
Raymond spotted Lachlan and Gideon in the crowd. He knew they were John's right-hand men but didn't see Aurora.
Lachlan and Gideon were scanning the crowd for Aurora. If they lost her and something happened, how could they explain it to John?
Raymond, seeing Lachlan and Gideon searching, immediately ordered his men, "Go into the hotel and find her. She must still be inside."
Luis led Aurora to the top floor and locked the stairwell door. Aurora, panting from climbing so many floors, asked, "Why are you helping me? And how did you know Raymond was after me?"
Luis took off his work uniform and leaned casually against the railing, "I'm the owner of this hotel. Protecting my guests is my responsibility."
The young woman in front of her looked even younger than Aurora. Aurora had always thought she was just a hotel staff member, but she turned out to be the owner.
"Do you think I'm a kid? Believing that?" Aurora rolled her eyes and leaned against the railing to rest.
Regardless of her intentions, as long as there was no malice, it was fine for now.
Luis smiled and turned her head, "I really like you."
Aurora was stunned. "I have a husband."
"I know." Luis looked at her with a smile.
Then Luis spoke something that left Aurora completely stunned!
