Chapter 18: Aurora, Let's Have a Baby

"John." Aurora mustered up her courage, staring at John's back, making up her mind. "I know it's hard for anyone to accept. If you want to break up..."

"Everything's packed. Let's go home." John turned around, still smiling. "Aurora, did you forget anything?"

Aurora was a bit confused. "John, what do you mean..."

'Wasn't it a breakup?' she thought.

"The doctor said you're fine and can be discharged." John smiled warmly. "I've already handled the discharge paperwork. Let's go home now."

Home?

Aurora didn't have a home.

Which home was she supposed to go to?

The White family's?

Or her rental apartment?

"I think everything's packed." Seeing Aurora in a daze, John walked over with a smile and took her hand. "Let's go!"

Aurora looked at him. "John, did the doctor say anything else?"

"What else?" John smiled at her.

Could it be that John didn't know?

Maybe the doctor didn't tell him?

Aurora thought about the doctor's duty to protect patient privacy, so maybe John really didn't know.

But after what just happened, Aurora knew that there were no secrets that lasted forever. If the truth would come out eventually, she might as well make a decision before their relationship got too deep.

Aurora pulled her hand back, her heart racing with nerves, but she maintained a calm expression. "John, there's something I need to tell you. Five years ago..."

"Enough." John interrupted her, pulling her into his arms with a smile. "From now on, as long as I'm here, I promise you won't get sick and end up in the hospital again."

John affectionately ruffled Aurora's hair, "Let's go."

Under John's gentle gaze, Aurora swallowed the words she had on the tip of her tongue, and at that moment, a sense of inferiority took root in her heart.

She realized that there was a crack between her and John, one that could break them apart at any moment.

Aurora didn't say much more, letting John lead her out of the hospital as if nothing had happened.

Once in the car, Aurora casually asked, "Where's Mr. Smith?"

"He had something to do and left first." John started the car. "Aurora, are you hungry? Let's get you something to eat first."

"I'm not hungry. I just want to go back to my apartment and sleep for a while."

Aurora wasn't hungry; Todd had brought her food.

"Alright." John didn't say much else.

Back at her apartment, Aurora really did go to sleep.

It was probably because of the medication that she was feeling a bit drowsy.

This was John's first time at Aurora's apartment. It was a one-bedroom unit, with the living room and bedroom connected, separated only by a screen. The kitchen was adjacent, and the whole place was less than 300 square feet.

It was small, but tidy and cozy.

It felt like home.

John sat on the sofa, glancing at Aurora through the gap in the screen.

Watching her sleep, John felt a stir in his heart and walked over.

Aurora was a light sleeper. She heard John approaching and felt the bed dip as he sat down.

When she opened her eyes, John's face was right in front of her.

Aurora's heart raced and her face flushed. "What are you doing?"

John's deep eyes gazed at her, and he gently brushed the hair off her forehead, saying with a rich, enticing voice, "Aurora, let's have a baby."

Before today, John had never thought about having a child. For a man to decide he wants a child, it means he's serious about the woman.

After nearly losing Aurora this time, the thought suddenly occurred to John.

The cozy home seemed to be missing something.

Aurora was stunned, looking at John in disbelief, while her heart filled with countless emotions and fears.

Why did John suddenly want a child?

"A... a baby?"

John's lips curved into a slightly mischievous smile. "Let's have a daughter, beautiful and gentle like you."

Gentle? She was anything but gentle!

Aurora met his serious gaze and felt a bit uneasy.

She turned her face away, maintaining a calm demeanor. "It's too early..."

John's brow furrowed slightly, a bit disappointed, but he reminded himself that they had only been dating for a short time and Aurora hadn't completely opened up to him.

He realized he was being a bit impatient.

"Okay, whatever you say." John held Aurora, not saying anything more.

Seeing his disappointment, Aurora felt a pang of sadness and leaned in to kiss his cheek.

The kiss filled John with joy.

It was Aurora's response.

"Aurora!" he murmured her name passionately...

Afterwards, she nestled in John's arms, staring out the window, her worries and insecurities resurfacing.

In the days that followed, Aurora recuperated at home.

John brought her food every day and accompanied her on walks after meals. They seemed like a couple in love, but John could vaguely sense that Aurora was subtly distancing herself from him, keeping a certain distance.

After a week of rest, Aurora returned to work.

Because of the bracelet incident, she had offended Nancy and Joe.

Joe and Nancy's relationship had problems, and Joe's dream of becoming the son-in-law of the big boss was likely shattered.

Joe now hated Aurora, making her life difficult every day, forcing her to work late into the night.

Because of that $120,000 bracelet, colleagues speculated whether Aurora had really found a rich boyfriend.

They watched from the sidelines, neither getting too close nor too distant, a survival tactic in the workplace.

Donna advised, "Aurora, maybe you should apologize to Manager Green. It's tough being targeted every day."

"No need." Aurora knew that even if she apologized, it wouldn't help. Besides, she wasn't wrong and wouldn't apologize.

Donna sighed, asking mysteriously, "Aurora, what does your boyfriend do?"

She wasn't the first person to inquire about Aurora's boyfriend. She had heard the rumors at the company a few times.

Aurora knew Donna's intentions and smiled. "He's just an ordinary guy, a delivery driver."

Donna didn't believe her. "Aurora, you're not telling me the truth, are you? Don't you consider me a friend? I even spoke up for you that day."

Aurora smiled helplessly. "I'm not lying to you. It's the truth."

She was being honest because Donna had spoken up for her.

Donna pouted. "A delivery driver can afford a $120,000 bracelet?"

"It's a high-quality fake, not real." Aurora laughed. "Maybe my bracelet was a better replica than Nancy's, so it wasn't noticed."

If one high-quality fake existed, there could be more.

Donna was skeptical. "Where did your boyfriend buy it? How much was it?"

"I don't know where he bought it. I'll ask him later. It wasn't expensive, just a few hundred dollars."

Seeing it was almost time to leave work, Aurora handed her completed work to Donna. "I have plans today, so I'm leaving early. Otherwise, Manager Green will catch me and make me work overtime again. Can you submit this for me?"

After so many days of silence, Aurora finally found a chance to fight back.

She had said she would settle the score with Nicole for almost drowning.

Aurora sneaked out of the company and called Dean. "Dad, let's have dinner tonight. I have a solution for the company's funding issue."
