Chapter 256 Helen Comes to Visit

Joshua admitted that he had instigated Alexander to go after Matthew.

Back then, Joshua was blinded by hatred and was at a loss on how to get revenge on Matthew. It was at this time that Alexander approached him and hired him as a financial advisor.

Even God seemed to be helping him.

Alexander, who only had an elementary school education, was brave but not cunning. When it came to schemes and traps, Alexander wasn't an adept.

Moreover, Alexander was eager to expand his market in Silvercrest City at that time. With a bit of manipulation from Joshua, Alexander indeed went after Matthew.

Matthew repeatedly refused to cooperate with Alexander, which infuriated Alexander. Joshua then instigated Alexander to teach Matthew a lesson.

Of course, Alexander wouldn't do it himself; he ordered his subordinates to handle it.

So Joshua took advantage of this opportunity. Joshua twisted Alexander's intentions and orders, and together with the subordinates who wanted to curry favor with Alexander, they ultimately caused a tragedy.

Joshua then tampered with Matthew's car, causing the brake system to fail.

Though Alexander knew Matthew's death afterward, he just thought that his subordinates had overacted. The police ruled it an accident, and the matter was left unresolved.

Since then, Joshua hadn't had a good night's sleep, fearing the day the police would come to him.

Now that he was finally caught by John, he actually felt a sense of relief. He no longer had to fear the sound of sirens or live in constant anxiety.

Facing the murderer of his father, John was filled with rage and kicked Joshua to the ground. "Go to hell and apologize to my dad."

Joshua spat out blood and laughed, "John, how are you any different from me? You falsely accused Alexander, leading him to commit suicide out of guilt. You've indirectly killed someone too. I don't believe your conscience will ever be at peace."

"Take him to the police station."

With that, John directly turned and left.

He needed to go pick up his wife and bring her home.

Todd walked over to Joshua and slapped him on the head. "You even dared to mess with that fierce woman. I have to admire your guts. You should be grateful I helped you dodge a bullet; otherwise, that fierce woman wouldn't have spared you."

If Todd hadn't distracted Lori, she would have definitely settled the score with Joshua for drugging her.

When Lori returned to the hotel, Aurora had already finished the food and was about to go to bed.

Seeing Lori was so furious, Aurora asked, "Weren't you at the bar with Todd? Why are you so angry now?"

She had already heard about what just happened from Ava.

"Aurora, how can there be such a cunning and shameless man in this world?" Lori was furious. "Todd didn't fall for it at all. I got tricked again. After leaving the bar, we ran into some troublemakers, and he even pushed me to the front to deal with them while he ran off."

Aurora and Ava exchanged a glance. They had already guessed that Lori would likely fail and be infuriated, but they hadn't expected so many dramatic events.

Aurora and Ava couldn't help but laugh, not very sympathetically.

Lori complained, "Can you two stop gloating right in front of me?"

Aurora shrugged. "You've been tricked so many times and still haven't learned. You can't blame us."

"Aurora, use your charm to get John to tie up Todd so I can have my way with him." Lori realized she had used the wrong words and quickly corrected herself, "I mean, teach him a lesson."

"John and I are in a cold war and we haven't spoken for days." Aurora said, "Let's deal with the financial advisor issue first. I'll find a way to help you get back at Todd."

"Deal." Lori was always full of fighting spirit when it came to dealing with Todd.

It was already past two in the morning.

Aurora couldn't stay awake any longer and went to her room to sleep.

After calming down, Lori also went to rest.

The next day.

Lori and Ave had already left, and just as Aurora was about to leave, the doorbell rang.

She thought it might be hotel staff, so she directly went to open the door, and paused for a moment upon seeing Helen standing there.

Helen was still wearing her hospital gown, with bandages on her head and an IV needle in her hand.

"Auntie, what are you doing here?" Aurora felt a bit uneasy seeing Helen.

"Still calling me Auntie? You should start calling me Mom. John has told me you two got married. I'm your mother-in-law now." Helen smiled while raising the bag in her hand. "Guess what this is. I bought you breakfast. I knew you probably hadn't eaten yet."

Helen, like a playful child, kept the bag a mystery as she entered the room and slowly unpacked it. "Aurora, look, your favorite sandwich."

"Mom." As Aurora called out for the first time, she felt a bit awkward. She was surprised and touched to see the sandwich. "The store is quite far from here. Did you go all the way there to get the sandwich?"

"Yes, I couldn't sleep. As soon as it got light, I sneaked out of the hospital to buy it. John doesn't know I snuck out, so don't tell on me." Helen was proud of her successful escape and pulled Aurora to sit down. "Aurora, come eat. I waited in line for a long time to get this."

Aurora was deeply moved. In her life, besides Wendy and Ashley, only Helen had made her feel the happiness of being a daughter.

Aurora took a bite of the sandwich and smiled, "This is the best sandwich I've ever had."

"Tasty, right?" Helen was happy to see Aurora enjoying the sandwich. "There's also porridge. You're pregnant, so eat more."

"Okay." Aurora ate and said seriously. "Mom, you should have some too."

"Alright." Helen was overjoyed to hear Aurora call her Mom. "Aurora, are you and John in a cold war?"

Helen was quite straightforward. "No." Aurora dared not tell the truth.

"Don't lie. Why else would you be staying at a hotel?" Helen said, "I know everything now. It's because of John's dad, right? You haven't visited me in the hospital these days, but Summer and Loren have been keeping me company and cheering me up. At first, I found it hard to accept that you were Alexander's daughter." As Helen said, she held Aurora's hand and continued, "Sometimes things are just too complicated to untangle. The grudges of the previous generation have nothing to do with you.

Besides, you've given our family two smart and adorable grandsons and are pregnant again. I may have a head injury, but I'm not stupid. Dragging old grudges into this and ruining my son's happiness would be foolish."

Helen knew what was more important.

If she were too stubborn with Matthew's death, she would not only ruin John's marriage but also deprive Summer and Loren of their mother, which was totally a family tragedy.

Having faced death twice, she had become more understanding.

Aurora didn't know what to say for a moment. Helen must have thought it through from all angles to have this conclusion.

At this moment, Aurora's phone rang. It was John calling. They hadn't spoken in days, so she was a bit surprised.

Helen noticed and urged, "Aurora, answer it. Summer and Loren are looking forward to you coming home. Lloyd has mentioned you several times too."
