Chapter 223 John knew that Summer and Loren were his children.

Aurora felt a chill run down her spine. She didn't dare look back, so she took a deep breath, pulled out her phone, and pretended to make a call while walking faster.

"Hey John, where's the guy you sent to pick me up? Almost here? Cool, I think I see him." Aurora's voice was loud enough for anyone nearby to hear.

She picked up the pace, and just then, a car pulled up. By some stroke of luck, it was Sam behind the wheel.

Her fake call had been just a bluff, but it turned out John had actually sent Sam.

"Ms. White, hop in," Sam said, unlocking the door.

Aurora slid into the car. "Did John send you?"

"Yeah, Mr. Lewis was worried about you and sent me to get you," Sam replied.

Aurora glanced out the window, scanning the streetlight-lit road. She didn't see anyone, but she was sure someone had been there.

"Let's head back," she said, looking away.

"Got it." Sam nodded, starting the car and driving off.

After they left, Jennifer stepped out from behind the trash bins near the streetlight. Watching the car disappear, she bit her lip in frustration. She'd missed her chance to take out Aurora.

She quickly made a call. "I didn't get her. I need your help next time."

With that, Jennifer hung up and left.

Meanwhile, in Richard's study.

Richard put his phone down just as Jack asked, "Everything okay, Richard?"

"Yeah, just a wrong number," Richard said, standing up and patting Jack on the shoulder. "You've been working hard, Jack. How about taking a break? Go back to Silvercrest City with Aurora."

Jack wanted to go back but didn't want to seem too eager. "Richard, your health isn't great, and Christopher and Robert are up to no good. I'm worried about you."

"Don't worry about me. Do you think leading the Wolfpack for decades was for nothing? Their little games don't scare me," Richard said with a reassuring smile. "Go on, I have a task for you in Silvercrest City."

"What task?" Jack asked, eager to prove himself.

"You'll find out when you get there."

Meanwhile, Aurora got back to the hospital and filled John in on what happened. "Who do you think it was?" she asked.

"This place is always a mess, Aurora. We're heading back to Silvercrest City tomorrow."

"But the doctor said you can't leave yet."

"I know what I'm doing."

Just then, Todd knocked and walked in. "Mr. Lewis, we've intercepted several of Alexander's shipping routes. It's not just an economic hit; we also sent him a big surprise. Half an hour ago, he was taken in for questioning. The police contacted us; Alexander's in deep trouble this time."

Alexander had tried to capture Aurora and John, and John had lost his sight because of it. Payback was due.

"Good." John nodded. "Get ready. We're leaving for Silvercrest City tomorrow."

"In such a rush? Mr. Lewis, shouldn't you stay in the hospital a few more days?"

"It's safer on our own turf."

After hearing about Aurora's close call, John had a bad feeling something big was brewing with the Wolfpack. He needed to get Aurora back home right away.

"Alright, I'll get things ready," Todd said, then turned to Aurora. "Ms. White, Mr. Lewis is in your hands." Seeing Aurora nod, Todd took a few steps, then paused. "Ms. White, why haven't I seen Ms. Hernandez around?"

"She's dealing with some personal stuff," Aurora said with a knowing smile. "Mr. Smith, this is the first time I've heard you ask about a girl."

Todd quickly clarified, "Ms. White, don't get the wrong idea. I'm just trying to avoid any awkward encounters."

Aurora smirked, "I didn't say anything yet."

Todd just sighed, feeling a bit helpless.

The next day, John had a tightly packed schedule, and Aurora didn't have time to say goodbye to Richard in person, so she called him instead.

When Richard heard Aurora was leaving, he said, "Let Jack go with you. It's a good chance for him to handle some business in Silvercrest City and get some experience."

Richard hadn't mentioned sending Jack to Silvercrest City during dinner the previous night, so Aurora was a bit puzzled. "Richard, what do you want Jack to do?"

"Just a small matter," Richard laughed. "By the way, I'll have Jack meet you directly in Silvercrest City."

"Alright." After hanging up, Aurora couldn't shake that uneasy feeling. What exactly was Richard planning?

"Ms. White, get in the car," Todd called out.

Aurora snapped back to reality and asked, "Mr. Smith, what do you think of the Wolfpack?"

Todd paused for a moment. "Why do you ask?"

"Just curious," Aurora said. "The Wolfpack is in turmoil with various factions, but Richard has been in charge for so many years. It can't be for nothing. Yet, the Wolfpack is so disorganized that it makes people uneasy."

Hearing this, Todd's expression became a bit serious. "Ms. White, you've been with the Wolfpack for a few days. What's your personal impression?"

"It feels very strange," Aurora replied, but she couldn't pinpoint what was off. Was it Richard's unusual behavior last night? Or the fact that Richard lied to Alexander, saying she was Alexander's daughter?

John sensed her unease and said, "Alright, I'll have someone keep an eye on the Wolfpack."

"Mommy, get in the car," Summer said, already helping John into the car.

"Coming."

It took over two hours to get back to Silvercrest City. They first drove to the airport and then took a flight back. By the time they arrived, it was already afternoon.

John was admitted to the hospital, and Gary immediately arranged for a full-body check-up for him. The results came out by evening.

Gary didn't use any complicated medical jargon and said directly, "It's not a big problem. I'll arrange a surgery, and his eyes can be treated."

With Gary's words, Aurora felt relieved.

"But..." Gary glanced at John on the hospital bed and hesitated. "He's not in serious condition, but Ms. White, you don't look well. You should go home and rest; don't take it lightly."

Gary never exaggerated, so when he said this, John immediately got worried. "Summer, Todd, take Aurora home."

Aurora was puzzled and said, "It's not that serious. I don't feel like there's anything wrong with me." She really didn't feel any discomfort.

John was very assertive, and his words showed no room for refusal. "Aurora, go home and rest. With Gary here, I'll be fine."

John rarely used such a domineering tone with her. Instead of feeling angry, Aurora felt a feeling of warmth inside. Whether he was gently coaxing or firmly insisting, it was all for her well-being.

Aurora smiled, "Alright, I'll go back to The White Villa and come back tomorrow."

Todd and Summer left together. After they were gone, only John and Gary were left in the ward.

John looked at Gary and said, "So, what do you want to say?"

Having known Gary for so many years, John knew that Gary had deliberately sent Aurora away just now.

"Auntie Helen was injured," Gary said. "The night you and Ms. White were captured, Auntie Helen was attacked in the hospital."

John narrowed his eyes as his expression turned serious. "How is my mom?"

"She was resuscitated but hasn't woken up yet. She's in the ICU," Gary said. "On the brink of death, Auntie Helen said something to me. It's about you, Summer, and Loren."

"What did she say?"

"Auntie Helen said that Summer and Loren are your sons."
